Name help for our baby girl

We are having trouble choosing a name for our baby girl. We have it narrowed down to the following names:

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]

If [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is not the first name, it will most likely be her middle name. I also like [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] for a middle name, but my husband doesn’t like it. Maybe we can compromise and use both as middle names? [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]

What should we name her? Why is this so hard?

first of all, you have some lovely choices here! here are a few combinations that really stand out to me… :tulip:

hannah esmae (hannah means “grace” so it’s a bit of a double honor here!)
isabelle esmae grace
magnolia esmae grace
abigail esmae grace
vienna grace

hope this helps a bit! you really can’t go wrong with any of your choices! :honeybee:

I like a lot of these, but I think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is my favorite with both [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Esmae[/name_f].

As pp has mentioned, you really can’t go wrong with any of them but you want to narrow it down so……Personally, I find that the nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u] is very common at least where I live so I might eliminate [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Vienna[/name_f]. It feels fresh and unique, uncommon, but not unheard of. [name_f]My[/name_f] next choices would be either [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Sadie[/name_f].
[name_f]Esmae[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] could definitely be both used as middles. I find the flow of [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] better than the other way around.

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] are my favorites but they are all nice.

hannah means grace, so that’s bit of a double honor :heart_hands: hannah esmae is so sweet!

my favorites would be ~

sadie grace esmae (or sadie esmae grace!)
magnolia grace esmae
abigail grace esmae

if he isn’t a fan of esmae, could you perhaps use the esme / esmee spelling (same pronunciation, accent sometimes on last e for esme, or second e for esmee) or the esmay? maybe you would also like esmeray (ez-mer-eye)

you cannot go wrong here— all choices are lovely! abigail is my preference with the double middles; single middles would be hannah esmae and isabelle grace! best of luck to you!

I like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. A classic.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] is OK.

[name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] overused imo.

I really like sound of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Vienna[/name_f]! It’s stunning and a little more unique but still incredibly classy and wearable. I personally love two middles if the flow works, go with what makes you both smile.

I adore [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]. The spelling [name_u]Esme[/name_u] could be a great alternative.

I love [name_f]Vienna[/name_f]! [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] Grace!!! So lovely, sleek and international!

[name_f]My[/name_f] next choice would be the charming [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (Maggie, [name_f]Nola[/name_f], [name_f]Nolia[/name_f], Noa) and the sweet, simple [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] (Hannah [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] means grace, so [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] works but bothers me a bit)

I think you should choose Grace - and if you choose Grace, not sure I would use Esmae as Grace runs into the name so maybe:

Grace Ismay (alternative, sounds less lispy)
Grace Ismay Vienna

Or

Abigail Grace
Abigail Grace Esmae

So the classic options, both will age well - and still have something more surprising about them than Hannah or Isabelle.

Or you go for a more daring and distinct name, like Vienna or Magnolia. Sadie is hip too but too cutesy/showbiz for my taste.

Vienna Grace Esmae (or just Grace as middle)
Magnolia Grace Esmae (see above)
If going for two, Grace a nice break between the A endings of the names and the E beginning of Esmae.

I like the Esmée spelling too.

Good luck! You have several lovely options! :sparkles:

Congratulations on your baby girl :tada:

Naming is soooooo hard!!! I really struggled naming my baby I think it’s just there are so many names and it’s such a huge decision but you’ll find the one. You also have a fab list so whichever name you choose your onto a winner.

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts on your list

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] ~ a gorgeous classic that has really grown on me she’s elegant, has a wholesome feel, has a lovely meaning and I love the nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is just such a cosy name with an autumnal feel. I think [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] would be gorgeous.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] ~ feels stylistically a little different to the rest of your list. [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] has a more fashionable ‘trendier’ feel she feels like the new [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]. I’ve seen a few Vienna’s in the playground and I think she’s very cool. I do like [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] but I prefer the others on your list.

[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] ~ a lovely girl next door stable classic. I think because [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] means [name_f]Grace[/name_f] I would ditch the [name_f]Grace[/name_f] middle name and use just [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] is sweet!

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] ~ a lovely frilly feminine choice that has that enduring classic feel and is the ultimate ballerina name. I do prefer [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] I think the ‘o’ sound is prettier.

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] ~ such a lovely name! [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is elegant, has gorgeous connotations through the [name_u]Christian[/name_u] concept of ‘Grace’ and I think is refreshing as a first name. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] is lovely! I also feel that you seem strongly connected to the name [name_f]Grace[/name_f] she is going to feature within your daughters name so I feel maybe she should shine up front.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] ~ I love this nature name she feels so summery, sweet and bright. I think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be the ultimate southern [name_f]Belle[/name_f] that it makes me smile and want to drink sweet tea all day long. The nickname [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is adorable as well.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] ~ another cheerful sweet choice I do like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] but she doesn’t sparkle as much as your other options

[name_f]My[/name_f] top three would be

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

If it was me I would take these three into the delivery room and see which one suits my baby

Wishing you all the best

Congratulations!

From your list I think the following would be my choice.

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] has such sweet nickname options.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] is cool and modern sounding.

[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - I don’t often hear [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] used, but it’s got a familiar feel to it.

I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is my favourite :star_struck:. I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] Esmea [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is pretty, I think [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Esmea sounds a little funny but that could just be me. Esmea [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is very pretty and I love both the names in that combo. :butterfly:

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_u]Esme[/name_u]. I love how two vowel names sound together. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_u]Esme[/name_u] also works. I also like the three syllable two syllable pattern. If you want a double middle name [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_u]Esme[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is lovely. I’m fine with the [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] spelling, but prefer [name_u]Esme[/name_u].

[name_m]Say[/name_m] and write all options with your surname to determine which you are drawn to.

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is really pretty to me!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this list! Personally, my favourites are [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]! [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] are so gorgeous, so I don’t think you could go wrong with either of those. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] makes the better combo, but just be aware, she will get a nickname: either [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f] / [name_f]Bella[/name_f], with the former (Izzy) being far most likely, so make sure you’re okay with [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] / [name_f]Izzie[/name_f] before choosing [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]. (Or, if you love [name_f]Belle[/name_f], then use / enforce that as a nickname to avoid [name_f]Izzie[/name_f], because it will 99 percent be [name_f]Izzie[/name_f] by default by teachers, peers, etc if you don’t specify.)
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is pretty, but I can’t get past the double grace meaning.
How about [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_u]Esme[/name_u]? That’s really beautiful.
On the other hand, you could use [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a first: [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is lovely, as well as [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is fun and bright, but a little nicknamey: similar vibes to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but with more spunk.

Are you leaning towards any of the names in particular?

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]

Congratulations! :tulip:

I love your list! [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourites are [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. I don’t love [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], all I see is the word ‘sad’. Definitely use the name you like, I’m always baffled when I see fathers vetoing names… He aint the one going through the pregnancy. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite spelling for [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] is Esmeé  I’m having a whole Esmeé moment these days. It has become a big favourite recently. Such a warm and honeyed name. Esmeé [name_f]Grace[/name_f] / [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has a seriously gorgeous flow!

I like the combos like this:

  1. [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
  3. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
  4. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]
  5. Vienna-Grace [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]
  6. Hannah-Grace [name_f]Esmae[/name_f]
