[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are about to start trying for our first baby and have been discussing names. I’d love opinions and suggestions on either different names or middle name options. Our last name is [name_u]Green[/name_u], so we have to be careful with one syllable, color, and G names. Much appreciated! Here’s what we like so far:

Okay so I see two different styles. Traditional vintage names like [name_u]James[/name_u] , [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] , [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] , [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and then rustic modern names like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] , [name_m]Silas[/name_m] , [name_u]August[/name_u] , [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. So I’m going to give suggestions on both.

I agree with @anon73451839 about [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] - that was actually my first thought upon seeing your list before reading the previous replies. [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] definitely names a good sister, too.

Thank you! We definitely like [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] is my husband’s top name and [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] is a beloved family name. I’m very taken with [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] but I don’t think he likes it as much as I do!

I think that’s a pretty good description of our two name styles. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has very “popular” name preferences for girls and more unusual for the boy. We have a [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] in the family and sienna has a family connotation but I do like both. [name_m]Graham[/name_m] would be on my list if I didn’t find G names odd with our last name green, do you think [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] is workable or too much with the G’s?

I think it definitely works. If you like [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] you could you use [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] or maybe even [name_u]Sasha[/name_u].

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts on your list:

Boys-

James-This is nice. [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Green[/name_u] sounds very smart & handsome. It’s pretty popular if that bothers you, but a good solid classic.

Mackenzie-I really like it, personally. It’s kind of more used for girls unfortunately. [name_u]Mack[/name_u] [name_u]Green[/name_u] also runs into each other a bit. [name_u]Mack[/name_u] is adorable though.

Silas-That’s another good one. [name_u]Strong[/name_u], vintage, kind of cowboy-y. Not too popular but not too out there. Maybe getting sort of common though. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] flows perfectly.

Douglas-I think it’s fine for a mn. Not my personal favorite for a fn, but fine for a middle.

Alexander-I like this for a fn or mn, but it is pretty popular is the only downfall for a fn.

Indiana-This would be okay for a mn, but it’s too much for a fn in my opinion. It’s hard to picture on an actual person. Actually, there’s a cashier at Target named this, & I just have a hard time accepting it as his name. Plus, it sort of sounds too feminine for a boy & too masculine for a girl.

August-Ooh, I love this one. So dashing & sort of rugged & artsy at the same time. You may get the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. Which is really cute, but is [name_u]Gus[/name_u] [name_u]Green[/name_u] too chopppy?

Josiah-That’s really handsome & [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] sounds great. More popular than you’d think. I don’t hear it a lot, but it’s #45 on the SSA popularity charts.

Girls-

Ada-This is nice. Simple & smart & vintage & not too over done. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u] sounds lovely.

Ava-I may like this even more than [name_f]Ada[/name_f], because it seems a little glamorous & flapper girl-ish. It’s way more popular though if that bothers you.

Olivia-I think it’s beautiful, but so so popular.

Emery-Meh, I don’t care for this. It’s another one of those names that doesn’t sound pretty on a girl, but is slightly too feminine for a boy.

Emerson-This one is really kind of boyish & trendy too.

Avery-Soooo many little Averys running around. I don’t see the appeal, personally.

Nora-This is simple, smart, kind & vintage. A bit popular. Maybe not the best flow w/Green, but not awful.

Amelia-I’m not sure that I love this w/your ln either, but it doesn’t not work. I love love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] in general. It’s such a great balance of smart, bold, classic & feminine. Very popular though.
