Name I Would Use For My Children

Edit 5/21/15: I’ve changed some of the names/combos

These are names (with middle names) I would seriously consider naming my children. I give them Arabic names as middle names so I can both honor my heritage and so they can go by 2 names. In the US, they will be known as their first names, while my family in Lebanon will call them by there middle Arabic names. e.g. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] is [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] here in the US, while every one in my family will know her as [name_f]Khadija[/name_f]. [name_f]Share[/name_f] your opinions below.

Girls:

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f]

Boys:

[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Yuhanna (“yoo-hah-nah”, Arabic form of John)
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Mahmud[/name_m]
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Imran

Neat!
For first names, my favourites are [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] is lovely!
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] is nice, but I’m not super keen on [name_u]Ali[/name_u]. From the middle names you have listed, I think Imran is fantastic! [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] Imran would be wonderful, in my opinion.
Your other boy names are nice, but not my cup of tea.

Why is no one else commenting?

I love both [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. I slightly prefer [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] over [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] but both are lovely.

Your boys names are pretty traditional and work well. The only one I am not a fan of is [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. My favorite is [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is a solid choice it’s just not a personal fav.

I love [name_m]Amir[/name_m]. I love all the name choices you have there except I am not a fan of [name_m]Damien[/name_m]. [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m] would be incredibly handsome. I like the sound of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m]. I like Kahlid paired with any of them too

I’m very sensitive to sounds in names so bear with me.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is lovely and I like [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] - a fine combo but [name_f]Maria[/name_f] isn’t Arabic, is it? I have heard of [name_f]Mariam[/name_f]/[name_f]Maryam[/name_f].

[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] - sometimes fn’s that end in consonants run into mn’s that begin with the letter “A” and that’s an issue here. There are also repetitive l’s. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] or [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m] would eliminate the 'l" issue.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] - again, consonants and vowels plus the same “as” ending (Thomasabbas). [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] would be better.

[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Amir[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] but this combo has repetitive “ee” sounds. What about [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m]?

[name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Khalid[/name_m] - [name_m]Damian[/name_m] is handsome and I like it with [name_m]Khalid[/name_m].

[name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Imran - Back-to-back “en” and “im” isn’t ideal and neither are the same “n” endings. Perhaps [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m]?

Thank You for the compliments on the Girl names (btw [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] is the Arabic form of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but [name_f]Maria[/name_f] was one of the wives of [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] and thus it is ocasionally given in honor of her. Also, I love [name_f]Mariam[/name_f], but it’s quite boring in the Arab world. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] is a nice alternative in my opinion), but I don’t understand your criticisms of the Boy names.

You say [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] have vowels and consonants that “run into each other”. Not only do I not see/hear any “running into each other”, but even if I did, I don’t understand why that is an “issue”. Same with “receptive Ls”, “same -as endings” and “ee sounds”.

I think that’s really neat, I love the middle names especially.

[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] is perfection!

I made this comment to boost the thread back up top, so I can make sure I’m getting as much comments and opinions as I can.

I’ve recently made some changes. [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] has been Replaced with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Safiya and [name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Khalid[/name_m] has been replaced with [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Mahmud[/name_m]

What about [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] Safiya? I think Safiya is really pretty. I don’t really like the name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f] is beautiful too. For boys, I like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_m]Amir[/name_m] as first names.

What a lovely idea! Though I don’t have ties to it now, I sort of see me having strong ties in the future (I don’t know, I guess it doesn’t make sense–I just envision [name_f]France[/name_f] and [name_m]French[/name_m] culture being a big part of my future, although I don’t really know that for certain!), so I like that I have lots of [name_m]French[/name_m] names on both my lists, so if we ever do go there, they have something they can go by easily. For example, I’m not sure how [name_m]Grant[/name_m], one of my personal favorites, would work in [name_f]France[/name_f] (probably not very well, haha), but one of the mns is the [name_m]French[/name_m] Frédéric, which would be much easier to go by in [name_f]France[/name_f]. I like the same option for you here! I lovelovelove [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Khadija[/name_f], even though I’m not generally a huge [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] fan, and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Safiya is gorgeous, too! I like a lot of your boys’ middles, although I think I’d switch them up a bit–[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] have a lot of similar sounds, but I’d love to see [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] Imran or [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m], and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Imran or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u], etc. (I actually really love [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m]!)

Good luck!

I think these all work pretty well! My only suggestion is that you switch [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m]'s middle names: [name_m]Peter[/name_m] Imran and [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Bachir both sound better to me, since the endings are different within each combo.

This is getting a bit repetitive, but I changed it around again. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Safiya is now [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] Najwa (I just love [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]) and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] to [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Qasim[/name_m] (my name, but spelled Kassem instead of [name_m]Qasim[/name_m]).

Made more changes, I changed [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Safiya BACK to [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wasn’t feeling [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] anymore. I also made the decision to change my once rock solid [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Abbas[/name_m] combo to something less “repetitive”.
