Eight years old today! Ear pierced, pancakes and powdered sugar for breakfast, and big giggling smiles. Happiest birthday, beautiful blessing.

Character details , tw: grief , death of a child

The sweet 2-year-old whose death leads to divorce in [name_m]Sandor[/name_m] Marai 's " Portraits of a Marriage". He dies from scarlet fever a few weeks after his parents return from a trip to [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. It’s painful enough for his mother that he never gets his name mentioned by her in the entirety of teh book only his father revelas it very late in the book during a heartfelt confession about the validity of the assumption that family is meant to bring you happiness and something to leave behind… He has to confront that assumption and admit that it had been untrue all along even though he really believed it at the time and loved his son. One of the most impactful moments in literaute that I’ve experienced so far.
