she’s the 5th generation of [name_u]Ren[/name_u]ée’s on my side. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] ended up being so much more popular than we anticipated. I have loved the name since high school - a good 15 years ago. I never wanted the saddle my kids with a popular name (I’m a [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]) or a super unusual one either.
we love, feminine, vintage-y, classic or classic-sounding names that are not over-used and have good nicknames. we call our [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] “[name_f]Liv[/name_f]” or “Livi”. my husband is stuck on [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (a family name), but it’s too close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] for my taste - especially the nicknames: [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], Lynnie, etc.
we’re thinking of [name_u]Adair[/name_u] as a middle name. any suggestions??
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is a popular sister duo around these parts. So my first suggestion is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]! Other ideas:
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]… Livi and [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]… So cute!
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Adalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_u]Hadley[/name_u]… Livi and Haddie!
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped a bit!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (I pronounce it emma-leen). It’s somewhat similar sounding to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but sounds nothing close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] sound beautiful together. Anyway, here are some more suggestions:
funny that you list some of these names because a few are family names: [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] & [name_f]Esther[/name_f].
Of those, I lean toward [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] & [name_f]Cora[/name_f] (and love [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]) for sure!
do you think the nickname [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] (sp?) is too close to Livi? I hate that all the names I love shorten to such similar names. (and my husband, too!) We clearly have a style!
I’m wondering if it’s a legit reason to not use a name because it has a similar nickname? (I know I’ll use it a lot because I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] nicknames).
any other nicknames for [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] you like?
I love that you paired the names with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - the visualization really helped! I should start doing that with my list…
[name_f]Adalie[/name_f], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] & (and especially) [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] are all favorites from my husband… I just can’t do [name_f]Addy[/name_f] for some reason. :-/ Maybe just [name_f]Ada[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f]!! I’d never heard [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] before this thread and it’s really growing on me!
We have a cousin that’s a year older than our [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] whose name is [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - it wouldn’t be an issue except that they live very close and we seen them often. [name_f]My[/name_f] first instinct would be to use the nickname [name_f]Emma[/name_f], so that’s the dilemma… What nickname do you think works best with [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]?
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are family names! I love them, but my husband keeps vetoing them. :-/ I keep trying though! haha.
I really love the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]… and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Adair[/name_u] is just a beautiful sounding name. We’re even throwing around [name_u]Everly[/name_u]… I just keep coming back to the nickname. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is a family name on my side going back to the second generation of immigrants - there are 5 total, though none in the past 2 generations. Plus, it means “longed for child” which is quite true. I wasn’t sure (and neither my doctors) that I would be able to have another child and had several miscarriages. The odds were that this pregnancy wouldn’t make it either. We didn’t find out why the others weren’t making it until this pregnancy - I had contracted an antibody from an emergency blood transfusion (it was lady part related and had to have an emergency d&c, but had lost so much blood beforehand that they had to give me 4 units of blood - nearly half of what the normal person has total!) that had been attacking the pregnancies. since the antibody isn’t native to my blood there was no reason to test for it. well, she’s sticking around and I’m elated!
the combo of meaning and a family name is just so perfect. I can’t decide if it’s unreasonable or not to veto a name I love (for sooooo many reasons) just because the nicknames are so similar! would anyone else name their child something so similar?
I like the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] suggestion, or [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. If [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is too popular why don’t you nickname the older girl [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] sound nice together.
Hmm…I’ve never really taken a stance on Helayna vs. [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-a, lol. I say both, but with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] I think I like Helayna better.
Honestly, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] isn’t terribly close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. I could see them working, even with the nicknames you adore (hey, people name twins [name_u]Madison[/name_u] & [name_u]Mason[/name_u], right?)
I say: go for [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. It’s clear you love it, and you don’t want to look back and regret not using it.
I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are too similar.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about one of the following?
Ideally if middle name is starting with an A you don’t want first name ending in an A though. Although quite a few of the following end in A!!
I absolutely adore Emmmeline and my nickname was always [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] which I think would be ok but maybe ask your sister or sister-in law so it doesnt become a family problem
If you don’t want to use [name_f]Emma[/name_f], how about [name_f]Lina[/name_f] (prn leen-uh) as a nickname for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]? You could also do [name_f]Emme[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], or [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (a bit of a stretch, but it works).
Other ideas:
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Katerina[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
Instead of [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], how about [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]? [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is lovely. It’s no wonder it is so popular!
I feel like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is a bit close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but it isn’t that bad. Choosing the right nickname will make all the difference. [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] would be too close. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and Ev would be too close. Since you like nicknames, it might not work.
Some different ideas;
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] ([name_f]Tessie[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f])
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]/[name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f] ([name_u]Jessie[/name_u], [name_u]Jess[/name_u])
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f] ([name_f]Este[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f])
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Cece[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f])
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] ([name_u]Jules[/name_u])
[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] ([name_f]Becca[/name_f], [name_m]Bec[/name_m] or Bex)
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Elsie[/name_f])
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] ([name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Mim[/name_f]) - has the same meaning as [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] P.S. I am glad to hear that this one is working out for you. All the best!
Oh, and if you go with [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], you could use the nickname [name_f]Dia[/name_f].
