I just got my NIPT results back and⦠we got our baby girl!
Despite wanting a girl forever I donāt have a name that Iām satisfied with.
For this girl all I can see is sunflowers, peaches and cream. Sheāll most likely be blonde (as both me and her dad are) and probably either blue, hazel or green eyes. She could possibly be a red head too actually, or more likely strawberry blonde as I was when I was small.
When my partner and I first got together we loved the name Isla but it rocketed to #1 in NZ where Iām from and #10 in Tasmania where we live. We still might use it though.
We loved Fiadh for a while and we have Irish heritage (FIL still has the accent) but I went off it due to potential spelling problems in Australia (particularly Tasmania which is about 10 years behind everywhere else).
Iāve been really into Faye recently, but I canāt settle on a middle for her.
Possible honour names include:
Jacqueline (though if we ever have a boy we plan to call him Jack)
Gwendolyn
Margaret
Anthea
Mary
We canāt use Flora unfortunately as itās my best friendās favourite name. We also canāt use Daisy or Daphne as they donāt go with our last name.
I love both [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and Fiadh, but I can see why the problems you mentioned would make them less attractive. I donāt see spelling or popularity troubles as a complete dealbreaker though, especially if youāre completely set on a name. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is also beautiful, and I love [name_f]Faye[/name_f] Anthea, [name_f]Faye[/name_f] Margaret, and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] from the honor names section.
Not sure if youāve considered Fenella? Itās one of my favourites. Not sure if itās too much with your surname but a nice way to bring in your heritage. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiadh[/name_f] are also lovely. I know [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is out (so pretty but I know how it is) but [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is also a sweet option.
What about Freya?
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] jumps out to me as a āsunnyā name and it means āgood fortune/happyā which is lovely.
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] w/ nn Sunny?
[name_u]Or[/name_u] literally just Sunny?
Others that seem like āSunnyā names to me:
[name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u] / [name_f]Junie[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] / [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] / [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] is my middle name which Iāve always liked. It goes great with your surname! Iād go for [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] for the middle name. [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love!!!
This is very happy news
Some names that sound like Fiadh: Fianna, Fina, Farrah, Fenna.
Middles for Faye:
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Marielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Elida[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Elora[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]
I agree with PPs that [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is great, and love the suggestions of [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] with [name_f]Faye[/name_f] too.
Other names that give me peachy, sunshine vibes (trying to avoid repeats) areā¦
Congratulations on your wonderful news! Your joy for this baby girl is clear.
I can picture the sunny imagery you describe going in a few different directions. The first name that came to me after looking through your UC was Tansy. It shares a lot of similarities to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but its floral imagery is more wild and bohemian. I feels vibrant and warm and I like the idea of it very much. [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is terrific or [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] if you enjoy the entwining āanā sounds like I do.
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] reminds me of Wendy. It gives me imagery of twirling in the springtime. I assume [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] would honour the same person [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] does. I donāt love the middle name options for this one. [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is nice but ends up feeling a bit conventional. I like the sound of [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] but they look rather mismatched together.
With [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] on your list, I wonder if you might like Minnie. I donāt think itās too diminutive for Australian tastes or current naming habits more generally. Itās such a sweet name and itās still very much under the radar of parents choosing vintage revival names. [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] are my favourite combinations.
Going in another direction, is short and sparky Nina. Itās similar to [name_f]Nora[/name_f] from your list and has that international feel you seem to like. [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] has a pleasing artsy sound. I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for you too. Lots of crossover sounds with Elowen, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and sounds like a natural sister to almost all of the names on your UC. I could see it with any of your middle name options, although [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is especially lovely. The zippy āzā in [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and the [name_u]French[/name_u] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] from your UC gets me to the name Zelie. Itās different from your usual style but I could see it as part of an eclectic sibset.
Continuing in the international vein, how about Reba? It shares half its letters with Ruby. It sounds bright and bubbly, simple but memorable. Not sure what Iād pair her with though. I adore Liesl. Earthy like Hazel, but more golden and luminous. [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] gives me very strong sunny vibes. Maybe [name_f]Liesl[/name_f] Margaret. [name_f]My[/name_f] last suggestion is Brigid. I picture [name_f]Brigid[/name_f] blonde and freckly. Sheās adventurous and loveable. A little bit of chew like in [name_f]Maude[/name_f] and Ada. Irish. For middles, I love [name_f]Brigid[/name_f] Anthea.
Thanks so much so far everyone! So many beautiful ideas.
Lots that we canāt use or have already ruled out for one reason or another (e.g. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is my SILs name, [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is a close friend, [name_u]Florence[/name_u] is too similar to Flora, a friend already used Elodie, [name_u]June[/name_u] was my grandmother but a cousin already used it, [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is my neice, my dad gets called [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] by his grandkids and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] was my grandparentsā cat, lol!)
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is still winning in my heart but Iām loving [name_f]Faye[/name_f] Gwendolyn. This honours my MILs name so it would be a nice balance if we end up with a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] which will honour my mum.
@EdgeOfTheMeadow I love Marielle, I hadnāt thought of that yet! It sneaks in a subtle honour of my own name as well a my grandmotherās middle (Mary). [name_f]Elora[/name_f] is gorgeous but itās my exes daughterās name.
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] is another potential for first name spot. It subtly honours my dad and his mother. I donāt love it as much as [name_f]Isla[/name_f] or [name_f]Faye[/name_f] but I have another 6 months to let it grow on me.
I adore [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but my only hesitation is that it has no honour attached to it.
@kachenka wow what a thoughtful list, thank you! A lot of your suggestions are far bolder than Iāve considered yet. I agree [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] seems like a natural fit with my list, I donāt know why Iāve never been able to love it. Probably because I know a few! I tend to favour names that I canāt associate with anyone. Iāll have to have a good think about your other suggestions!
One thing we have to keep in mind is the D initial and acronym potential. WAD or PAD or BAD for example would be no good!
Thanks again everyone, more ideas and opinions welcome!
Side note: is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] too basic?
what about Erin to honour the Irish roots? it literally means āIrelandā or āThe Island to the Westā (which would also tie in the meaning of Isla). Itās super sweet and really gives me strawberry blonde vibes.
If you like Isla - what about Evelina? it means āwished for childā or āislandā and definitely ties in lots of the sounds you seem to like. Evelina Faye would be really pretty!!
I also think Elsie and Eloise would meet your style? x
@MargotAbeline nice ideas! I think [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is too close to my neice unfortunately (Eva) and actually 3/4 of my neices+nephew have E-names so Iām trying to avoid that trend haha - though I absolutely love [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and Eloise! [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is actually the name of my partnerās aunty who passed young, and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] had been on my list since I was a teen. Ahh Iāve really considered every name it feels like at this point! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] though
Like many previous posters, Iām loving [name_f]Faye[/name_f] Gwendolyn.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is absolutely lovely and not basic at all.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] makes me think of Ines, which gives me similar vibes to [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and Anouk. [name_f]Ines[/name_f] Marielle? [name_f]Ines[/name_f] gives me those bright, sunshiny feelings you describe.
Also [name_f]Inga[/name_f] ⦠Iāve always though of [name_f]Inga[/name_f] as quite bright and springy. [name_u]Strong[/name_u] and light all at once. To me, it looks like [name_f]Maude[/name_f] but sounds like Sylvie, if that makes sense?
This is unfortunate for future kids in your family, but what a well-named cat
I think Isla Faye is beautiful and elegant. I always say about Isla that in spite of how popular the name is, it always retains that slightly exotic aura for me, making it still feel like a rare treasure!
You make a fair point about initials. Itās a preference most parents have.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is dreamy. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] may be popular but it isnāt ubiquitious. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] doesnāt have high usage as a first or middle name so I donāt think the combination would ever be considered a basic choice. The long vowel sounds in each name makes the combination flow silky smooth. Liquid sounds are a feature of lots of popular names within the last two decades so perhaps thatās whatās coming through. Iām not sure. Thereās no chewy consonants, perhaps thatās what youāre after. Something to with a little more body. It could be feeling too simple or brief for you. [name_u]Or[/name_u] it might just a passing thought. I think itās a strong choice in any case.
From your UC, Hazel definitely has sunny vibes for me. As does Rosie, Nora, Anouk, Elowen, Alice, and June. I think especially Hazel Gwendolyn or June Anthea would be spectacular.
Other ideas from either your UC style or just names that fit this lovely sunshine-y vibe:
Marigold āGoldieā (Octoberās birth flower is the marigold as well!)

Olive
Iris
Georgia
Poppy
Mabel
Matilda
Emilia
