Name Pairs for our Boy-Girl Twins

My husband and I are expecting boy-girl twins in [name_f]October[/name_f]. We’re going to name the boy [name_m]Charles[/name_m] after my late father. We can’t quite decide on his middle name or his sister’s name, so your thoughts would be welcome!

The cadence of the names is very important to me, so I’m putting our last name down, but am deliberately misspelling it, spelling it phonetically.

One pair being considered:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] Rite
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] Rite

Nicknames: [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f]

I like the cadence of these names and fact that that both middle names have a similar sound. I like the sound of the nicknames together. Also, [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] has special meaning to us.

My concerns: 1) that [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is now considered a girl name, and 2) that [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] together sound too much like we think we’re the royal family

A second pair being considered:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Rite
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] Rite

Nicknames: [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elle[/name_f]

We like the name [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] very much, but I’m afraid the cadence of [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Rite is off - [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Rite sounds better to me.

I like the name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] better than any of its nicknames - I don’t hate the nicknames, but I don’t love them. (We’ve considered many of them, including [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Norie[/name_u], etc).

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sound very cute together, I think, but I feel like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are not as strong together (compared to [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f]).

Opinions? Additional ideas?

Many thanks!

Of the two options you have listed, I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. I like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Libby[/name_f] together, don’t think [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is girly at all, and, while I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I really don’t like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (sorry).

Other ideas:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]

Good luck!

I agree with you on [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]: I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is lovely but I’m also just not that smitten with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] (or any of the other [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nicknames). I also think there are going to be a lot of little Ellies running around - Ellies and Ellas and Eleanors and and Eloises and even some Elizabeths and others, all called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname.

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is a name we have considered, it would probably end up this name pair:

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Rite
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Rite

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Annie[/name_f]

[name_m]How[/name_m] are the cadence/flow of those two names? (Coming back to my concern that [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Rite might sound choppy).

Thanks!

More from me as I ponder this obsessively

Perhaps this pair sounds more matched?

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] Rite
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] Rite

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Annie[/name_f]

Though if we don’t choose the first name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] now, I might want to leave it on the table for the future, so might seek another middle name for [name_f]Anna[/name_f]…something classic with 3-4 syllables.

If you don’t want to use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle, maybe [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be a good middle for a girl. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about a nn for it at all.

I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is very handsome and is my favorite of your boy options.

I also think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] would be cute as well. That would also make the twins have opposite initials which could be a subtle twin thing.

Other ideas
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] together. I think [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] would be cute and timeless.

Thanks for your feedback…in the end I’m not sure I quite like how [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Rite sounds; it doesn’t seem to flow as well or sound as strong together as some other names

Now considering [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] --> concern is not loving the nicknames for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] are also possible --> concern is the “royal” pairing of [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

Cheers!

I think you should keep [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], especially if you plan to use nicknames. I love [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] for you.

Can I suggest [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]? Now I realise the fact they’re both variants of the same name may be off-putting to you, and I respect that. But they aren’t that similar in appearance and sound, really, beyond the shared first letter C - and really, I find this sib-set utterly adorable for twins given that they’re related names. In fact, it’s one of my top choices if I were ever to have twins myself, and it sounds so classy to me. Possible nickname idea: [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_u]Caro[/name_u]?
If, however, [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is out of the question for you, I would further suggest the similar-sounding [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] - which have the advantage of being unrelated names. Or even [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], since you mentioned the latter name before as a meaningful choice for you.
Good luck!

Oh twins that’s so exciting! Big congrats to you!

I like option 1 better: [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f]

I was going to comment that the names [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] go well together and sound similar because of the royal family connotation, but I don’t think it’s a negative thing at all. I am just in love with the nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. I think that is the sweetest.

Thanks for your ideas!

I love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and it’s good to hear that not everyone thinks [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a pair is weird or pretentious.

I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], too!

[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] could only be used as middle names because we can’t have a [name_u]Cory[/name_u]. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a wonderful name, but another one we can’t use as a first name, unfortunately.

Time to discuss [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] further with DH…
