Name phenomena you know

One thing I find very interesting is when unplanned name coincidences occur. So for instance, someone’s name at birth is just a name, but then something happens to make that name more interesting, such as marrying someone with a rhyming name or the same name or something. One example I can give is when someone posted in Name Sightings names from a couple different obituaries: women named [name_f]Cheerful[/name_f] Kidd and Vanilla Beane, both of whom had married into those last names. It could also be that their name later relates to their profession or something.

Here are some people I know, which should hopefully give a better idea of what I mean!

Summary
  • [name_f]Kacie[/name_f] (f) who married a [name_u]Casey[/name_u] (m). They joked that they would name their first child [name_u]Kasey[/name_u] or something haha, but they did end up giving their kids c/k names to go with their K- last name, so all have an alliteration of sound!
  • [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] (f) who married her high school sweetheart [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], and because she took in his last name when they got married, she became [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Sherry[/name_f] and [name_u]Barry[/name_u] who married each other (they rhyme where we live)
  • Someone with the married name [name_f]Sheri[/name_f] Sperry (also rhymes)
  • This one is a little more complicated to explain, but it’s crazy! [name_f]My[/name_f] uncle named [name_m]Don[/name_m] named one of his daughters [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] after himself (they are pronounced the same where I live). He also has a son named [name_m]Mark[/name_m]. Well, his daughter [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] married a man named [name_m]Mark[/name_m]. Anddd his son [name_m]Mark[/name_m] married a woman named [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. One of their other kids also married a [name_m]Mark[/name_m]. So in their family, there is a [name_m]Don[/name_m] & xx as the parents, then [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] & [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_m]Mark[/name_m] & [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], xxx & [name_m]Mark[/name_m], and xxxx & xxxxx  so 3 named Don/Dawn and 3 named [name_m]Mark[/name_m], and two of those being couples named [name_m]Mark[/name_m] and [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]! Only one couple didn’t have a [name_m]Mark[/name_m] or a Dawn/Don. How crazy is that??

So I’m curious… What name phenomenons do you know of?

Not one I know, but a blog post several years back featured a woman named [name_u]Gay[/name_u], who during her first marriage was legally named [name_u]Gay[/name_u] [name_u]Love[/name_u]
[name_f]My[/name_f] teacher Mrs [name_u]Walter[/name_u] once hinted that her maiden name was [name_m]Walther[/name_m]

I don’t know if this counts since I don’t personally know the family, I’m just aware of them, but:

In [name_u]August[/name_u] 2010, [name_m]Luis[/name_m] Suarez welcomed his daughter, [name_f]Delfina[/name_f], with his wife [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] Balbí. A few months after this, he signed for Liverpool FC, whose home stadium is called Anfield, which, interestingly enough, is an anagram of [name_f]Delfina[/name_f].

On a personal note, I went to elementary school with two sisters called [name_f]Mary[/name_f] & [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. Idk if their parents knew that the names are heavily related, but I just found it funny :woman_shrugging:

Two that I can think of off the top of my head…

I know a woman [name_f]Meryl[/name_f] with a rhyming surname (her husband’s)!

I also know a R0sy D@y (yes, not [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]) — it sounds very poetic even if it is a bit wordy!

I once spotted one of those memorial benches for a couple called [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_m]Ernie[/name_m]! (their names are anagrams/share the same letters - I just think that’s honestly so cool)

I know a couple who are Dani3l and Dani3lle, who both go by Danny/Dani, and their middle names both start with [name_f]El[/name_f] they also have a daughter named Dana3, the middle also starting with [name_f]El[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] mom is a very avid seashell collector, absolutely loves them, goes to the beach any chance she gets for vacation. Her name is Sh3lli. I had to point out how funny it was for a Sh3lli to love collecting shells

My maiden name was the name of a famous city with a famous tower in it. My husband changed my name from (first name) (last name-famous city) to (first name) “of/from the tower.”

Imagine “Julia Pisa” becomes “Julia de la Tour.”

Summary

Hence, I am now the “lady of the tower.”

Also, my name means “grace” and the proverb that begins “The name of the Lord is a strong tower…” is etched on our wedding rings. So now my name is “Grace of the Tower,” which is very meaningful to me.

You may not believe me but keep in mind these people were old. [name_f]My[/name_f] great grandmothers friends. And it isn’t family lore bc I met them myself. [name_f]Anita[/name_f] married Mr. Wiener. Pronounced Wee-ner , not Why-ner. So, that made her [name_f]Anita[/name_f] Wiener.
