So the name I came up with for my expecting son is [name_m]Iker[/name_m]. After searching it up I found out this name is commonly pronounced ee-kuh, however I wanted the name eye-kuh for my son. If I spell it Ika that is also pronounced ee-kuh in Indonesia. The only alternative I have read is Eiker but being Australian, the people I have asked have said they would pronounce Eiker as ee-kuh or ay-kuh but they pronounced [name_m]Iker[/name_m] as eye-kuh. Should I just name him [name_m]Iker[/name_m] and pronounce it eye-kuh or does anyone have any recommendations on a different spelling? So confused
Tbh as an american I wouldve instinctually pronounced it as ‘eye’ ker. As [name_m]Ike[/name_m] ‘eye-k’ is a familiar nickname here.
I think eye-ker will be a pronunciation people will guess in [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries  (I mean, we pronounce IKEA wrong I believe and that has the same start so…)
Eiker I’d also pronounce as Eye-ker.
Ika maybe? Yker?
I pronounce it like eye-ker
I’m in the US and would have said eye-ker
If where you live [name_m]Iker[/name_m] will get the correct pronunciation then go with that. [name_f]My[/name_f] other ideas would be something like Ika, Ayka, something like that.
i would pronounce both iker and eiker the way you want them, while i’d say ika like eeka. i think iker is clearer and neater, so i’d go with that!
fellow australian here, I’d pronounce it eye-kuh on first guess! I’d pronounce Eiker the same way as well
Personally I’d say Ika matches your preferred pronunciation the most, especially considering other [name_f]English[/name_f] accents / languages that do pronounce the -r at the end of names.
I’ve only heard of [name_m]Iker[/name_m] in the context of [name_m]Iker[/name_m] (ee-kehr) Casillas. I don’t know if he is famous in Australia though.
I think you could go with either [name_m]Iker[/name_m] or Ika. Either way, you will probably have to correct the pronunciation occasionally.
