Hey all! I love the name [name_f]Helene[/name_f] pronounced Hel-leen. Is this a losing battle though? [name_m]Will[/name_m] she fight her whole life for the correct prounciation?
I do think this is likely to be pronounced Heh-LEHN, Heh-laine or just like [name_f]Helen[/name_f], but I’m sure it could be said as heh-leen if you introduce her as such
I think that pronunciation is typically written with an accent mark? I could be mistaken though… (US English)
There was a teacher at my elementary school named [name_f]Helene[/name_f] and I currently work with a Hellene; both are pronounced hel-leen. So I think it’s doable! This is also my go-to pronunciation, but probably just by default since it’s what I’ve encountered.
[name_f]Helene[/name_f] is a pretty name, but I do think she will encounter pronunciation issues. That being said, I feel it’s an easily correctable name too
I’ve only ever come across the hel-EEN pronunciation for [name_f]Helene[/name_f]. I think you’re fine. It’s one of those names with no clear-cut pronunciation so I wouldn’t be swayed by this.
I think the pronunciation is fine. That would have been my first guess.
I wouldve assumed it was ‘leen’ as it doesnt have the accent mark to make it leyn…unless I have it backwards? [name_f]Hélène[/name_f]: he-leyn, [name_f]Helene[/name_f]: he-leen?
I didn’t know there were other pronunciations for the name. That one is the one I read it as! I love in the western US. Pam’s mom has that name and pronunciation in The Office
