[name_f]My[/name_f] biggest disappointment is that I live in a french speaking place so I can’t use my absolute favorite names that are only pretty (imo) with an english accent… I want to name my daughter [name_u]Blair[/name_u] so bad but ugh I guess I’ll move just to use it :joy:

yes, now, but see, we are the opposite… genevieve (jenna-veeve) = :sob: but genevieve (zhahn-vee-ehv) = :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

oh i totally get what you mean! i prefer samson and have him on my list, but it does kind of look like it’s missing a letter, and sampson looks like it has one too many…

I have the exact same problem with [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], I love the [name_u]French[/name_u] zhak-leen but live in an area where it would always get jack-lynn.

I am trying to get over the name [name_u]Senna[/name_u], since I don’t think the laxative association is escapable enough. I just love the sound so much! Plus the plant itself is beautiful.

@NameSearchAccount I love [name_u]Senna[/name_u] too - it makes me think of [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u], and then the plant itself. I had no idea about the laxative connection until a few weeks ago!

Maybe you will like [name_u]Seneca[/name_u] as well? It’s a similar name that I really love, plus it has the connection to [name_m]Roman[/name_m] history.

@seawillow If you did, I think you’d have news articles written about you (like that one family where all the kids have names consisting of just the letters A, L, E, and X )

Unfortunately [name_u]Seneca[/name_u] doesn’t appeal to me as much. Same with the very similar [name_f]Sienna[/name_f].

A positive name rant today! I’m currently having a moment where names I really could not see the appeal of in any way are sounding wonderful, fresh, and list worthy! Today, it’s [name_u]Atlas[/name_u], [name_u]Aja[/name_u], [name_f]Alara[/name_f], and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] I love moments like these because it really keeps being a name nerd exciting. I think I have a handle on my own style of naming, and ideas of what I do and don’t like, and then BAM. Changes overnight, often without reason. Actually come to think of it, my long-standing favourite names started out as being names I really didn’t like! The baby name world is fully open to me even after all these many years of homing my name-nerd-craft. How exciting!

Why do I love so many names that sound like nicknames for a grandmother :sob: [name_f]Nan[/name_f]? Absolutely love it. [name_f]Nona[/name_f]? [name_u]Amazing[/name_u]. [name_f]Nanna[/name_f]? So sweet. (and I actually know a preteen named this!) But even as nicknames I worry they sound like grandmas :older_woman:

I feel the same way with [name_f]Mamie[/name_f]! It is so sweet, but it sounds a bit matronly.

@sammaegre fr tho and you cant spell it as Zhakleen or Zhakline because it wouldn’t be practical or whatever

Mine is that no one ever agrees who the sibling to a combo I really like should be. I’ve asked a lot about siblings to [name_f]Finja[/name_f] [name_u]Raine[/name_u] and every answer is different in a confusing way.

If it means anything, one of my irl friends who’s called Ioanna (Joanna) goes by Nanna sometimes! She’s only ever gotten “banana”, not grandma haha

I have a cousin (older teen) who goes by this (and Nan) almost exclusively and she’s never gotten “grandma!”

I’m glad she hasn’t gotten grandma, lol! I can totally see banana too… although honestly most Anna’s I know have also been called ‘anna banana’ at some point in their childhood too :joy:

That’s reassuring! And I love that you know someone who goes by Nanna/Nan

When I was little, I thought all old people’s grandparent nicknames were their real names, because my grandmother’s best friend was an old lady called Nan… and of course, at that age I thought my Grandma and Grandad’s real names were Grandma and Grandad too

@jadeyrosgold7 Hey, welcome back! I remember your old account

I truly believe that any person can fit any name. When parents are naming their babies, they don’t have any idea of what sort of person their child is going to grow up to be — because of course there’s no way of knowing that!

It’s a bit different renaming yourself, especially when you’re older, but I think the point still stands — any name can work for anyone. I can look at my friend and see her as an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], or an [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], or a [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], or a [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f], or anything in between. I think the real concern is whether you can see yourself wearing those names comfortably. If you’re able to see yourself as [insert name here], you will be [insert name here] and others will see you as such!

So I think go ahead and choose whatever name you feel comfortable wearing — whatever name feels right for you. Other people will learn to see you as that name

I think that a name doesn’t look like any specific person to be honest. It is the person that makes the name, not the opposite.

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] back, I remember you too! I agree with heartwings that the person makes the name. Since you say you have been set on the name for 4 years I think that’s a sign it’s perfect for you, even if it’s not perfect for the image in others’ heads.
