What do you do when you’re extremely uninspired when it comes to your own list?
[name_f][/name_f]
I’m feeling very creative when it comes to giving suggestions or coming up with thematic lists [name_f][/name_f]— you want sibling ideas for [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] or names that give off “librarian by day and spy by night”? I’m your girl.
[name_f][/name_f]
But ask me what names I’m liking or would name a child today? Sorry, every name is meh.

It’s sort of draining because a big part of the fun for me is thinking of my future family
I love the nickname [name_m]Mars[/name_m] for a girl but I can’t find a longform name I love, that goes with [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] without being too similar and probably most importantly [name_m]Mars[/name_m] happens to my dog’s nickname LMAO
Why is it that I can accept [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] as names of their own without thinking twice but when I see [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] I can only think of it as short for [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]?
I don’t know I came across a few regency-era Sophias who used [name_f]Sophy[/name_f] as a nickname and it has completely ruined me, I think it’s so sweet. Once you see as a nickname it I don’t think you can unsee it.
Old me had a much better sense of direction when it came to name lists and curating a vibe. [name_f]My[/name_f] user card and style had a clear feeling and “aesthetic” to it, and I feel like I’m a bit all over the place now. Not that my new style is bad, it’s just a lot more eclectic and a lot less cohesive, which makes me a bit sad!

I came across a screenshot of a user card of mine from [name_m]September[/name_m] of 2023, and it is so warm and cozy and the names fit together so well, and I sort of miss that vibe
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]The names in the user card, if anyone is curious 🌿[name_f][/name_f]
If it means anything, I definitely prefer the vibe your style has now! The old combos are lovely but they could honestly be any berry’s combos. If I saw the ones on your list now, I could tell they’re yours! To me that gives them a much warmer vibe because they’re so much more personable and really seem hand-crafted and painstakingly chosen.
Aww, I’m glad! Sometimes I feel like my style is a bit messy and not very “readingreverie” like, but I think that comes from struggling with the fact that my style is allowed to change and evolve over time. Your comment makes me feel better about this. I think I just need to accept that names don’t have to be perfect and fit into the box of what I “should” like. I need to let myself vibe with what I vibe with!
Is it a double standard that I think Tuesday is the most awkward name ever (weekdays are too abstract to make good word names anyway and this one feels especially arbitrary as it lacks both the distinct vibe of Friday or Sunday and the pop culture reference of Wednesday) but I just looked up what my daughter, born on a Tuesday, would be called in Ghana, where people are named after the day of their birth?
[name_f]My[/name_f] brain is so cursed because not only do I think it would be weird to name your child [name_f]June[/name_f] if they’re born in [name_f]June[/name_f]. But I’ve been restraining myself from putting [name_f]June[/name_f] as my Name of the [name_m]Day[/name_m] because we are in the month of [name_f]June[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]: “it’s cliche to do [name_f]June[/name_f] in [name_f]June[/name_f], people will think you just put it because you couldn’t think of anything else and looked at the calendar for ideas”
For me, [name_f]June[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f] are the only month names that I would call my children, I feel like becaues they’re so ‘old’ they work fine! But for names like [name_f]April[/name_f] and [name_f]October[/name_f] – I still like them, but I’m also, “it would be weird to call your child [name_f]April[/name_f] if they’re born in [name_f]April[/name_f], couldn’t they think of anything else?” but at the same time, “why did they call their child [name_f]April[/name_f]? She’s not born in April!” [name_f][/name_f] just can’t win!
We considered [name_f]November[/name_f] / Nóvember as a middle name for our youngest. He was due in [name_f]January[/name_f]. In the end he was born before 33 weeks and arrived in [name_f]November[/name_f]. Had we decided to go with [name_f]November[/name_f] beforehand, I’d have dropped it the second I realized he was actually born in [name_f]November[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]. I just couldn’t, ever. I love month names, but I couldn’t handle naming my child after the month they were actually born in. A month that has a special significance, or just because I like it? Absolutely. But never the month they were born in.
not quite a rant, but I don’t see the name [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] as frilly/girly/uber feminine at all, and that’s always what it’s categorized as. Maybe because it’s a princess name? (It’s also my[name_f][/name_f] name, which is probably why I don’t associate it with frilliness and pomp lol.)
Haha another unfrilly [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] here [name_f][/name_f] I’ve never been a princessy girl, but I’ve also never felt like my name doesn’t fit me. Yet I do see why people think of it as frilly; it’s a princess name with lots of vowels, so I can understand people feeling it fits the Aurelia/Eliana/Eliora vibe.
Re: frilly names, growing up I thought my name (Lily) was too frilly and girly for me. Now, as an adult, it just feels like my[name_f][/name_f] name, but I used to wish I had a spunkier name.
