I wasn’t arguing with you… I was actually partially agreeing with you that it’s a shame that some names are considered ruined because of natural disasters. The next part was just an additional “rant” thought you made me think of. I still disagree with that sentiment but sorry it came off argumentive
I’m not sure if this counts as a rant - I just thought it was funny - but I asked my boyfriend for his favorite girls’ names and he just said [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. So cute but PLEASE I really want to know!
Thank you, it’s ok. I know the names are picked arbitrarily (they have no idea which ones will make landfall), but I know experiences like the natural disasters trigger a lot of people (myself included)
I know a lady whose name was [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] and she started going by [name_f]Katie[/name_f] after the hurricane…I might be the only one outside her immediate friends and family who knows her full name. It was really hard for her to suddenly be associated with such death and total destruction.
imo [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] is probably the only one that immediately brings the tragedy to mind. [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] and [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] came to mind as well after thinking for a moment, but in general [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] is the only one I would genuinely be hesitant to use.
Yeah, I know an [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] who’s my age (teen) and he never has [name_f]Hurricane[/name_f] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] brought up. I know the name [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] went down in popularity after the hurricane, but he’s totally fine. Although, it’s one of the major hurricanes that people don’t tend to think about, so that could be it as well.
Yeah, I think it helps when the name has other associations? For example, [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] wasn’t a huge name before the hurricane and hasn’t really been used that much since… so it kinda ends up being that the name is only associated with the tragedy.
Yeah, I’d say it depends on that too. Whether or not the name was actually popular when it happened— a popular name is one people wouldn’t automatically associate with a natural disaster since it has so many more associations, but if an uncommon name was used, people would think of the hurricane almost immediately.
Maximilian and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] are too similar for siblings but I can’t find anything else I like
unwarranted opinion: i don’t think they are too similar and I love them
Probably I just didn’t want to repeat initials, but seems like I will. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t find anything else.
I agree with @acajou: they’re good together and they’re both great names (I especially love [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]).
Why is it so hard to find honor names for [name_m]Omar[/name_m] that I like
I have a bad association with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. I’ve also been loving [name_f]Ulrika[/name_f] lately.
But then I thought [name_f]Ulrika[/name_f] -> [name_m]Ulrich[/name_m] -> [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]?? I looked it up and they do not come from the same name
There was an [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] on Wolfblood and I always thought his name was [name_m]Ulrich[/name_m] (I wasn’t used to that kind of accent). I loved that show when I was younger. It had a lot of good names: [name_m]Rhydian[/name_m], [name_u]Bryn[/name_u] (b), [name_f]Jane[/name_f], etc.
Anyway, that was a random tangent. [name_f]Ulrika[/name_f] is really pretty!
I’ve never really stopped loving Theodore, but it did fall behind others I found myself loving more. Now it just moved up and joined their ranks. AHHHHHH. What to do, what to do?!?
It was originally part of a combo with a mix of Matthew and Oren or Elias, but now I’m looking at Theodore Matthew Lee. The problem is I’ve come to love my Matthew Lee Oren combo, and I’ve used Annika (honoree is Döröthy Änn). It would be nice to have for another honoree, but I decided to do family first and then go from there. AHHH!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite boy name got extremely popular. I mean, extremely. I bet this is one of the highest rising names in the world:
Entered the popularity charts in 2017, ranking #90. #95 in 2018. Then, guess what happened. In 2019 a freaking TV series used [name_u]Miran[/name_u] for their main character and everyone loved it!!! Now it ranks at #8
Every time someone mentions the name [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] I just think of (tw: ED) [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] Cooney Ughhh it’s such a pretty name but I will never be able to separate it from her…
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] would be perfect as a sibset for two boys!! But no one would except it because they’re “too girly.” It makes me so sad, I wish old and different names would not be so teased. I love “old lady names” and other stuff like that. But by different I do not mean trendy. That’s a different topic I could rant on for hours.
@SeleneMoon I actually used to despise [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] for a boy, but a had a dream where there was a boy named [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and now I really love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] for a boy; although I do automatically associate it with a girl’s name, I think it’s perfectly unisex.
