[name_m]Hi[/name_m], new to nameberry. I joined not only to browse the lists and convos for ideas but also really to share what I’m struggling with.
Our little girls name is [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. I’ve struggled with our choice to name her that really ever since. It was our name for if baby was a boy, and we never really decided on a girls name so decided it would be [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. (Sometimes call her [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_f]Kate[/name_f])
Now we are expecting number two, don’t know the gender yet. I think finding out the gender this go round will help me decide on a name.
We have a boys name picked out but for a girl I feel it’s really difficult bc if I pick a really girly name or “pretty” name, it doesn’t seem to fit.
I would think something like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] would go best with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. But I’m not absolutely in love with those.
Can you all tell my your opinion of the name [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]? I know it’s very popular in the U.K. but not so much in the US, which I like. Also I know the more commonly spelled form is [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] or [name_f]Maisy[/name_f], but I like it with a Z.
Can this name stand alone or should it be a nickname for something like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]?
I would love if the name we pick has a Z or V in it.
I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is very cute, though I do prefer it spelled this way. [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] might get pronounced “Maz-ee” rather than “[name_f]May[/name_f]-zee”. Perhaps spelling it [name_f]Maizie[/name_f] would be doable?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you intend to give her the middle name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Kate[/name_f], the same as [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]?
I think [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] can stand alone, although I would spell it [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. Either way I think it works really well with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. I would personally avoid [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] since you’ve already got an [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], especially if you sometimes call her [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
While I personally would not have used [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] on a girl but I can totally see the appeal and I bet if I met her I would love it. Ezzie is a cute nickname!
If I could name a sister to [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] I would go with something like…
Thanks so much! Should have clarified, middle name would probably [name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
Thanks for the positive feedback…on other sites I’ve ever posted what we named our daughter I’ve gotten ugly responses, which is hurtful.
I am glad you shared [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] with us. I think its a very pretty name and there is no reason why it should not join the list of names for either a girl or boy.
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is very sweet and goes well with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. Sorry I agree that the regular spelling is preferable, but [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] may be mispronounced unless you put [name_f]Maizie[/name_f]. You choice of course. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] nn Zie would give you a ‘Z’ or perhaps just browse more Names with z and v in by using name search. I do love [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] but feel the spelling will be an issue for your daughter. I have known people who say they enjoy saying the alternate spelling for people writing it. Its about deciding what you think is best for your daughter.
Perhaps you have a special reason for using [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/ [name_f]Kate[/name_f] for both girls middle names that you could tell us so we are not so inclined to suggest alternatives. Best wishes.
[name_f]Estell[/name_f] maybe or [name_f]Estella[/name_f]. [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f]. [name_f]Zada[/name_f]. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] i love the name Masie its kinda like [name_f]Macie[/name_f] but different at the same. [name_u]Unique[/name_u]
I think [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] is a great name, on a boy or girl. And because it is much more popular in the U.S. for boys right now, I actually think it would be really cool to meet a girl named [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]. I personally really like it equally for both genders!
As for [name_f]Mazie[/name_f], I have always really liked the name regardless of spelling. I think it is adorable and love the British feeling from it. And no I don’t think it has to be a nickname for a longer name at all! Some middle name ideas could be [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f], or [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f], or [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] would both go great with [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], but if you don’t love them enough, here are some other suggestions:
I do really like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] for a girl! It’s super cool and unique, but also still stylish and wearable.
Unsure how I personally feel about [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], maybe continue browsing? It’s not bad, just not personally my style.
I definitely wouldn’t give them the same middle name though!
