Name Riven

What do people think of the name Riven? My husband found it online and we both love it! There are multiple means both positive and negative. Positive: Having Courage Strength and Beauty; [name_f]Wisdom[/name_f] Chivalry and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. Negative: To break apart or tear apart into pieces with violence. My main concern is that it too out there? I am fine with a unique name that many people will not have heard, but I also don’t want my baby to hate their name for being too different. I would pair it with two more mainstream middle names like [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or something. I have a short last name. Any thoughts are welcome!

It doesn’t look out there (looks similar to [name_u]Raven[/name_u]), but you may run into some pronunciation problems. I want to pronounce it like [name_u]River[/name_u] with an N (or given with an R), but to be sure…

Is it pronounced Riv (as in [name_u]River[/name_u]) - in, or Ri (as in [name_u]Riley[/name_u]) - vin?

I think it’s usable and it has an appealing look about it. It reminds me of the more familiar [name_u]River[/name_u], but it also gives me the vibes of [name_u]Seren[/name_u] and [name_f]Maren[/name_f].

I prefer [name_u]River[/name_u], but I think it’s an attractive name that doesn’t sound too different from other modern names.
Though it does feel more masculine than feminine to me.

I would pronounce it like [name_u]River[/name_u] with an N instead of final R sound. Thanks for the input!

I like it, actually. However, be prepared for MANY people to think her name is [name_u]River[/name_u] or [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. My name is [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and I’ve had to repeat it a lot for people. They hear [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], Roral, and a variety of other things. Especially over the phone or in loud places. But I’ve never cared that much, I loved having a name that isn’t heard everywhere. I was always the only [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] in my class. Riven has an appealing sound…I wouldn’t worry to much about the negative meaning. It’s not as bad as some out there.
