I am pregnant with #2 (likely our last). We won’t know for a few more weeks whether baby is a boy or girl, but I think we are pretty good with names for a boy. On the other hand, we’re totally stuck when it comes to names for a girl.
DD#1 is [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] N_____. Our last name ends in “line” but is pronounced like “lynn”… so [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], which I love, is out because it rhymes with our last name.
I want a classic name that sounds elegant/sophisticated, but also smart and friendly. I’d prefer it not be terribly popular, so out of the top 20 at least would be best. That being said, I still love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but husband isn’t sold on it. He likes [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I don’t feel like it is as grown-up/elegant sounding as I would like.
He wants to use his mother’s name, [name_u]Dana[/name_u], for the middle… which I suppose is fair since we used my mom’s name for DD#1’s middle. The only thing is that I don’t like the sound of [name_u]Dana[/name_u] with a lot of first names I like, such as [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], or [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].
I know! [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is really hard! I think maybe we need a 1 or 3 syllable first name. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is lovely, but a no go since we have a [name_f]Julia[/name_f] already. [name_f]Justine[/name_f] is also a little too close to [name_f]Julia[/name_f] for me. Thank you though!!!
I love [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]… I just wish [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] wasn’t so popular. I was thinking of maybe [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], but with the "a"s in [name_u]Dana[/name_u] and our last name, I think [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] looks better.
Same with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]…I feel like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is too popular but otherwise I like it.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is a possibility, I will add that to my list to give my husband
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is such a pretty name, I love it for a little girl, but can’t quite picture it for an adult…
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is a maybe… we considered [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] for our first. [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] sounds better with [name_u]Dana[/name_u] than [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] I don’t care for, but [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a cute nn
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is a possibility…I will ask my husband what he thinks.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] I will add to the list.
The rest either aren’t my style or won’t work because of cousins with the same names (i.e., [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f]).
Would you have to use [name_u]Dana[/name_u] in it’s current state? Could you use [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Danica[/name_f]? Or perhaps maybe use your [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s middle name?
My first idea was [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]. I think if you steer clear of “A” ending names (or even “na(h)” ending names), and go with a name that’s not two syllables, you’d be okay? [name_m]Even[/name_m] something like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] works okay, but not superbly. The other solution might be to use two middles (something like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]?), or a similar [name_m]Dan[/name_m]- name, like [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Danae[/name_f]. What about:
I’ll apologize ahead of time for any repeats, but what do you think of…
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] (You could call her [name_f]Edie[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u]
Is there another way to honor your mother-in-law in an equal, but different way? Could you maybe use her maiden name as a middle name? Was there a name she loved for one of her children, but never got to use? Could you use her initials? I also think that the names [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] would sound good with the name [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and those names seem very similar to [name_u]Dana[/name_u].
Optimally, a sister to a [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] would have an equally timeless middle like [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
That said, we could make [name_u]Dana[/name_u] {which in a different setting, I really do like} more classic-sounding by using i.e. [name_f]Danae[/name_f] or [name_u]Dane[/name_u].
[name_f]Danielle[/name_f] is a good idea, though I’m sure my husband would prefer to use [name_u]Dana[/name_u]. I will ask him what he thinks about it. I don’t know my [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s middle name…I think now she just has her maiden name… not sure if she ever had a middle? I’ll try to find out. My husband would love [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], as he loved his Grandpa [name_m]George[/name_m], but I worry about [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f] sounding too close? Thanks for your input.
Thanks! I like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], but DH has already said no to that. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but my cousin just gave her baby girl that name. Thank you!
I know, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is still my favorite too! Maybe my husband will be swayed if I agree to go with a nn he likes!
I love, love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but DH had a family dog named [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. He mentioned not liking the nn “[name_f]Meg[/name_f]” because it reminds him of the [name_f]Meg[/name_f] in Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m]. Any other good nicknames for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]??
Thank you!
I like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] and [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f]
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but DH has already vetoed that.
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] is pretty… I will add that to the list.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Dana[/name_u] is still my favorite. [name_f]Edie[/name_f] is cute…I will ask DH what he thinks about it.
[name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s maiden name is [name_m]Maguire[/name_m]. Hmm… it would work with some names I like, but don’t think I really want to use it…I think I’d rather baby have my maiden name if she is getting one at all.
