Last night I had a dream that really stuck with me, and it’s bugging me that either they didn’t have names or I don’t remember the names of the two main characters in this dream. [name_f][/name_f] I loved the dream so much I’m considering turning it into a novel, but I’m also just curious what you would name these two in general!

Person1:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] He is a commander in the US [name_f]Navy[/name_f], about 38 (in 2025), dark hair, reminds me a bit of [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m] [name_m]Darcy[/name_m] in that he’s reserved and you have to earn his approval but he is fiercely loyal to those whom he loves and is basically a big ole softy with his little sister and his niece. [name_f][/name_f] He often gets mislabeled as harsh and unfair and unkind, but it is out of a sense of his high standards for the work his team does. [name_f][/name_f] His integrity is the entire compass of his life. [name_f][/name_f] He is fierce and strong and determined, kind to those in need, treats everyone with fairness. [name_f][/name_f] He is fascinated by science and his role in the [name_f]Navy[/name_f] combines his marine biology degree and high-stakes military secrets. [name_f][/name_f] He is a patient teacher with those who give effort under him, and to his niece, especially.

Person2:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] She is also in the US [name_f]Navy[/name_f], probably about 5-10 years younger than Person1, was originally intimidated by him and felt like a failure when assigned to his team, but she slowly recognized that any harshness was to protect his team & his country, and has learned a lot from him since she was assigned to his team. [name_f][/name_f] She is full of sunshine and is way more impetuous and silly but also, her integrity is a big part of who she is and she is fiercely loyal to her team, her country, and especially her commander. [name_f][/name_f] She has grit and determination and does great things to save her country when her commander goes MIA on a submarine for several months. [name_f][/name_f] She sort of feels like the best bits of [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] & [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] [name_m]Dashwood[/name_m], in the body of a modern warrior.

Oh [name_m]Julian[/name_m] is a great one for him! [name_f][/name_f] I can totally see his friends calling him [name_m]Jules[/name_m]. [name_f][/name_f] I am already considering [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] too. [name_f][/name_f] I can’t see him as a [name_m]Ned[/name_m] but [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_m]Teddy[/name_m] or [name_m]Theo[/name_m] is on my list of names I’d thought of!

Person 2 I haven’t really even started thinking about names yet, but I feel like she’s an A name for some reason? [name_f][/name_f] I do like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_m]Kit[/name_m] for her though! [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is also lovely, but she doesn’t feel like an [name_f]Elena[/name_f] to me. [name_f][/name_f] I keep thinking of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] but she doesn’t feel like either one to me either lol.
You know, I almost suggested Theodore/Teddy but wasnt sure, but i can see it!

Yess, I was thinking along these lines too! [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]James[/name_m] is a favorite for him, and [name_m]Charlie[/name_m] and [name_m]Freddie[/name_m] and [name_m]Teddy[/name_m]! [name_f][/name_f] I can maybe see him as a [name_m]Rhys[/name_m] or a [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], though it doesn’t seem likely in the U.S. for his age. [name_f][/name_f] Some of the other outliers I’ve thought of are [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Dexter[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], MAYBE [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. I could definitely see her as a [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but one of my favorite writing projects, the female lead is named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Saint-Dreyfus, and I attempt not to reuse names for main characters in case the both hypothetical writing projects eventually get published in some way. [name_f][/name_f] Something classic like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] does seem to suit her well though. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Or[/name_f] maybe [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]? [name_f][/name_f] I don’t really see her as having a unisex name, but I do love [name_f]Sloane[/name_f] and [name_f]Grier[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] She does feel sort of Grier-ish!
