Name to get "Ellie" as a nickname

We are pregnant with baby girl #3 and this might be our last. While I know that some berries are tired of hearing lots of little girls nicknamed “[name]Ellie[/name]”, and while usually popularity is an issue for us, we don’t know of any little "[name]Ellie[/name]"s where we live (in [name]Canada[/name]) and DH has a soft spot for the nn because it reminds him of a lovely little girl (whose full name was [name]Eleanor[/name]) we met together when I lived in [name]England[/name].

We intended to try to use “[name]Ellie[/name]” as a nn for our first daughter ([name]Adelaide[/name] – pulling the “[name]Elle[/name]” from the middle), but it never stuck or seemed to suit her (she does not yet have a name-related nn). I think we are looking for a name that we [name]LOVE[/name] that has the option of being shortened to “[name]Ellie[/name]” if it seems to stick/suit this baby.

So far the only option we are seriously considering is [name]ELOISE[/name]. We both like it, but still aren’t settled on it and are looking at other options.

The other issue we are considering is whether or not to give this baby an “A” name, since our other two daughters names both start with “A”. This was unintentional and we may decide not to continue the trend, but it is still something that sits in the back of my mind.

Any suggestions?

I love [name]Ellie[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] you find a name you both love!

I love this post! My husband and I are expecting this fall and if we have a girl, her name will be Elliotte specifically to call her [name]Ellie[/name]!!

I have a good friend named [name]Elisabeth[/name] who absolutely REFUSES to go by anything but [name]Ellie[/name]. She’ll probably poison me for even mentioning this.

You could also use:
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Elliana[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Louella[/name]
[name]Petronella[/name] (she won’t want to go by anything but [name]Ellie[/name], ha)

[name]Hi[/name]! Here are some more, some closer than others. Sure there are more. Good luck!

I know an [name]Ellie[/name] whose full name is [name]Hazel[/name] (from the -el ending).

Thanks for your reply.

[name]Elizabeth[/name] – DH likes this and it would honour a grandmother, possibly two, but it’s just too “ordinary” sounding to me. There really isn’t anything special about it, especially, in my opinion, next to my other girls’ names.

[name]Eliza[/name] – I do like this a bit more than [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It sounds fresher, but there’s still something about it I don’t love.

[name]Gabrielle[/name] – I think I used to really like this when I was younger. I don’t love it anymore and a close friend has used it.

[name]Eliana[/name] – DH isn’t keen, though I did suggest it once. Sounds a bit too Italian for us too I think.

[name]Ariella[/name] – I think I like the slightly less frilly [name]ARIELLE[/name] better, but I think pronunciation issues would plague this. I don’t like the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid association or pronunciation and am afraid that’s how most people would prn it.

While Elliotte definitely looks feminine, it doesn’t sound so to my ear. It’s definitely a unique choice for a girl I think. We usually stay away from unisex names.

Wow, so many suggestions, though I don’t think any of them are really what I’m looking for. I’m so picky and there are so many factors (not just the nn issue) that we take into consideration. I’ve commented on a few.

[name]Elodie[/name] is positively gorgeous.

[name]Ellison[/name]! I love this name and wanted to name a little girl this, but we’re expecting boy number two. And my nextdoor neighbor/good friend just named her boy [name]Ellis[/name]…So it doesn’t work for us anymore.

[name]Ella[/name] is our #1 girl name for this baby. I absolutely love it and using the nn [name]Ellie[/name]. I also love the name [name]Eliot[/name] for a girl and calling her [name]Ellie[/name].

my niece is elodie and we call her ellie. that being said i would stick with an “a” name simply because of your other two kiddos. if you do that i like amelia and annabelle. amelie is beautiful also.

meant to add that eliott nn ellie is my favorite for a girl. it was my first choice but we’re having a boy.

If you want to stick with A names, I like [name]Amelie[/name], NN [name]Ellie[/name].

There’s also Elsinore, which is a bit out there, but I thought of it when I read how much you liked [name]Cordelia[/name].

And I do like [name]Elsa[/name] and [name]Elspeth[/name].

Have you considered [name]Eleanor[/name]? It would be a sweet way to honour that nice little girl and you get to use “[name]Ellie[/name]”.
Im horrified that you find [name]Elizabeth[/name] ordinary! I find it rather breathtaking myself! [name]Just[/name] saying, lol.
Good luck!
[name]Jane[/name]

[name]Just[/name] got one that I like [name]Elodie[/name]

I have a niece we call [name]Ellie[/name] as her nickname. Her real name
Is Elliette… Was [name]Elliot[/name] but changed to the more fem spelling after a day! Our cute little [name]Ellie[/name]!
She gets lots of compliments on her name!

[name]Elenore[/name] is just beautiful…

There is an “[name]Elma[/name]” on our family tree and I met a newborn [name]Elma[/name] a while back…Nameberry doesn’t like it, but I wonder if it will begin making a comeback with the “el” craze…

What about [name]Alethea[/name] (“eh-lee-tha”, at least that’s how I pronounce it)? I know a girl around my age (mid 20’s) named [name]Aletha[/name]- I am really liking it more and more. Not to mention, I am currently reading a book and one of the five sisters is named [name]Alethea[/name]. On NB it also shows a spelling variation of Eletha which might lend itself to “[name]Ellie[/name]” easier, however the [name]Alethea[/name]/[name]Aletha[/name] spelling would go with your other daughter’s names. I think it goes particularly well with [name]Adelaide[/name], I didn’t see your other daughter’s name, but I may have missed it.
