Name to use Poppy as a nickname?

Hello all! My partner and I have fallen into calling our baby “[name]Poppy[/name]” in utero, but would rather our daughter’s official name be something a little less cute. We’re in search of a name that [name]Poppy[/name] makes a good nickname for. So far we’ve gone through:

[name]Apollonia[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Phaedre[/name]
[name]Philippa[/name]
[name]Portia[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
Penthea
[name]Pilar[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Pomona[/name]
[name]Prudence[/name]

But aren’t sold on any of those. I know you guys are an endless font of excellent names, so I thought I would see if anyone has a fabulous [name]Poppy[/name] name under their hat! Thank you!

[name]Penelope[/name] is most intuitive for me. I can’t think of any beyond the many you mentioned. In fact some of those I honestly think [name]Poppy[/name] is a bit of a stretch. Maybe consider using [name]Poppy[/name] as a mn?

I have to agree…[name]Poppy[/name] is not intuitive for many of those names, at least not to me. I also wouldn’t choose a name you are so-so on, just to get to [name]Poppy[/name].
I like the idea of choosing a first name you love, using the middle name [name]Poppy[/name], and calling her [name]Poppy[/name]. It gives her plenty of options later, too.

Instinctively, [name]Penelope[/name].

Others:

[name]Penrose[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Pomeline[/name]
[name]Pomona[/name]
[name]Primrose[/name] (Prim, [name]Rose[/name], [name]Rosey[/name], [name]Posey[/name], [name]Poppy[/name])

The only ideas I haven’t seen mentioned so far are [name]Primrose[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]. [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Poppy[/name] might not be terribly obvious, but I’ve heard it’s legitimate, and have come across a [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Poppy[/name]. I think it’s really sweet.

Good luck!

[name]Don[/name]'t worry, we definitely won’t go with something we don’t like just to use [name]Poppy[/name]! None of our favored first name choices sound particularly good with [name]Poppy[/name] as a middle, so if a fabulous [name]Poppy[/name] stand-in doesn’t present itself we’ll probably just stick with our original choices. We can always call her [name]Poppy[/name] as a childhood nickname regardless; I do know plenty of people who have nicknames that seem totally unrelated.

Personally I really do like [name]Penelope[/name], but my partner is not at all keen on that one, so no deal.

[name]Calliope[/name]
Hippolyta
Prospera
[name]Zipporah[/name]

I like [name]Calliope[/name] if you’re not using [name]Penelope[/name] but if you want to use [name]Poppy[/name] just use it with a more formal mn

I can’t think of any outside the ones mentioned but I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Poppy[/name] I know of a little girl that is just named [name]Poppy[/name]. I think [name]Penelope[/name] is probably the most natural name.

[name]Poppy[/name] has always struck me as one of those nicknames that can be random and doesn’t need to come directly from a longer name (similar to [name]Bubba[/name], [name]Buddy[/name], etc.). The only two names I like [name]Poppy[/name] as a nickname for are [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Philippa[/name].

I agree that [name]Poppy[/name] could just be a nickname, even it isn’t for the formal name. It is very cute, and it will probably stick if you are already calling the baby by that name. My nephew has a nickname from in utero and his parents interchange using his name and his nn, which is completely unrelated.

Thanks all! She is looking more and more like a [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] kind of baby; [name]Augusta[/name] definitely has enough gravitas to balance out the lightness of [name]Poppy[/name], and it’s a favorite of mine.

[name]Poppy[/name] makes a GREAT first name! No full version needed [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] is amazing! love it!

wow, [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] is the best [name]Poppy[/name] combo.ive heard. [name]Augusta[/name] is really grounded and serious,.perfect for [name]Poppy[/name]!

[name]Amapola[/name] is poppy in Spanish, and the 1920’s song, “[name]Amapola[/name], my pretty little poppy”, is a sweet song. More a trivia comment than a name suggestion, though [name]Amapola[/name] is sweet, especially if you have Spanish ancestry.

[name]Poppy[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] is amazing! I love it.

I don’t have any more suggestions. I just wanted to say that [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] is an amazing combo.
