Name too similar?

We love the name [name_f]Mira[/name_f] for our baby girl, but my mom’s name is [name_f]Marla[/name_f]. Are they too similar?? (In the Jewish tradition you’re not supposed to name babies after living relatives)

Not too similar at all.

I don’t think they are alike

They are a bit similar, but definitely not too close!
[name_f]Myra[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] are also options but I think [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is great the way it is.

I agree with @emmievies that they are a bit similar, but not too close. It also helps that they don’t share an origin. [name_f]Marla[/name_f] comes from [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] which is a blend of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] is Latin, Slavic, Arabic, and/or Sanskrit as it developed independently in multiple cultures.

No, I think it’s fine. I love the name [name_f]Mira[/name_f]!

If I heard that a friend, whose mom’s name was [name_f]Marla[/name_f], named her daughter [name_f]Mira[/name_f], I wouldn’t even think about it honestly. Wouldn’t occur to me at all that you named her after your mom.

I love [name_f]Mira[/name_f]! I thought we would use it for a girl for a long time, but we wouldn’t due to the popularity of [name_f]Mia[/name_f] around here, which I wouldn’t want it to be confused with.

I don’t think it’s too similiar to [name_f]Marla[/name_f] to use.

To me they’re very different names. [name_f]Mira[/name_f]'s very pretty!

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] would be too close.
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is a totally different name, root, and derivation.
