Nameberry memes (Part 1)

Imagine thinking that that’s the worst name you can have.

Whoever thinks that’s a harrowing struggle should try being brown on the first day of school.

Teacher to other kids: Oh, I’m so sorry I said your name wrong. It’s so pretty.

Other kids: Come on! It’s not so bad to have it said wrong.

Me: laughs in brown girl

(a.k.a- that time the teacher can’t pronounce your name right for the two years you spend at that school)

Okay, am I the only one who whenever I see the “Everything But Names” category, I always subconsciously sing it to the tune of “Everything Has Changed” by [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] & [name_m]Ed[/name_m] [name_m]Sheeran[/name_m]?

I can’t say I’ve noticed that before, but I see it now! I was literally listening to that song this morning :joy:

Part 2: the nonusability of a name transfers with a random property.

“[name_m]Dresden[/name_m]? But that place was bombed! It’s like naming your child Hiroshima!” *
“Strippers use word-names so anyone called [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] is doomed”
“[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a birth defect! Might as well name your child Symbrachydactyly!”

*alternative punchline: But that place is in [name_m]Germany[/name_m]! It’s like naming your child Mönchengladbach!

Once, there was a queendom. But the queendom kept losing its queens. [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] died gently of natural causes after a few weeks, [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] lasted a mere two days before being brutally murdered, and [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] only lasted a bit before being contested by fair [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], oh lovely [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. She dethroned [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and ruled with a gentle, loving hand. Her handmaidens rotated frequently- [name_f]Aster[/name_f] didn’t get along with her and was shorn from the castle quickly, and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] graduated to head of staff but only lasted a few days before [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] tired of her. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] didn’t know which daughter to adopt- [name_f]Plum[/name_f]? [name_u]Sunrise[/name_u]? [name_u]Storm[/name_u]? But ended up adopting two daughters- [name_f]Tulip[/name_f] and [name_f]Aderyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] lasted far longer than any other queen. Nobody understood why she liked being called [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but she did. She oversaw a change in staff like never before seen- [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] all joined the team, and all traces of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] were removed from the palace. But then something peculiar began to happen. Suddenly, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Tulip[/name_f], and [name_f]Aderyn[/name_f] were no longer holding the interest of the kingdom. The civilians, who disliked change in leadership as much as the next kingdom, were distraught. After all, the way the kingdom worked was once a leader lost favor, they were murdered or dethroned and a new queen was chosen. (Why they didn’t switch to democracy, I don’t know.) The civilians didn’t know if it was the queen’s daughters that made them lose faith in her, or the queen herself. And she probably wouldn’t have been slaughtered if it weren’t for… a new queenly candidate rising to fame. [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] wouldn’t hire her as a handmaiden to be among [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] because her work style was too similar to her own, yet more fun. The citizens decided to seek help from the outside. They asked other kingdoms what they thought, and most said that they thought it would be best for [name_f]Bea[/name_f] to simply be a handmaiden to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but if not, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] was a better queen than [name_f]Bea[/name_f] would be. But the citizens couldn’t shake the feeling. And so this morning, [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and her daughters were thrown into a ditch from the castle. [name_f]Tulip[/name_f] or [name_f]Aderyn[/name_f] may be adopted or hired by a future queen, who knows. But for now, ex-[name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is gone. [name_f]Bea[/name_f] has yet to succeed her- she must choose which daughters to adopt, first. She has her eye on [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f], although both [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] have daughters with the same appearance. Really, it’s not certain that [name_f]Bea[/name_f] will be the new queen, but she will certainly be working in the palace, perhaps as a handmaiden. Regardless, please give ex-[name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] your condolences. The kingdom will be opening its gates at 5 o’clock, FTS (fantasy standard time), to allow other kingdoms to grieve the fallen queen alongside them. She will be missed.

Wow… that was more entertaining than I’d expected! :joy:

I love the idea of all of our names belonging to our own little kingdom (or queendom!)

Also, are you pronouncing [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as “bee” or “bee-ah”? [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious!
