You all shared your top 25s with me, and I finally finished accumulating all the data! I like the idea of presenting this in a more analytical way, but don’t really have the energy for that after a very long day. Without further ado, here’s the top 25!

Attempting to attach the full file for those who want to dive in deep, as well (for our responses this year, not 2020!). I would’ve loved to have enough responses so there were no ties, but alas, Nameberry would have to be much larger than it is for that! As it is, I’m thrilled that there were almost no ties in the top 7 or so. For the sake of creating as much hierarchy as possible with this project, if names were listed with different spellings (Eleanor and [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], for example), I picked one spelling and counted it every time the name was mentioned. [name_u]Happy[/name_u] perusing
That’s interesting, shed didn’t even rank in the top 100! I haven’t been terribly active in these forums but I don’t really remember seeing much of her either. Wouldn’t it be interesting if [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] got a surge in popularity soon!
@seawillow - you’re welcome girl. And I know, I would’ve expected [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] to FAR exceed [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. ELISABETH, number TWO! I know it’s a classic but I really didn’t think Nameberry liked her that much lol. Then again I always expect [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], etc. to top the lists. I feel like I can’t walk through the forums without seeing them everywhere, and they have been loved by Nameberry I’m pretty sure since I joined Nameberry over 10 years ago lol
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] was #26! But you’re right; they’re nowhere near as high up as they were 3 years ago lol. [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] are also in the top 50. Which is interesting, because they’re not the same florals that were in the top 25 3 years ago. I was surprised by how different they were. I’ve always thought [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] was a Nameberry darling… but [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] was significantly more popular in 2020… and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is much more popular now! It’s interesting to notice the differences. Like I told @seawillow on the boys thread; starting to think maybe I should do this yearly to see the progressions better. Plus it’s fun lol.
Yes amazing!! I’m so happy to see this for girls too.
I’m surprised [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] dropped off the list, and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] being gone was a huge surprise as well!!
Names I was surprised to see on the list: [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], [name_u]Esme[/name_u], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
I’m surprised by [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], I feel like I don’t see that one as much as [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] etc on the forums. Looking through the full list is like looking through the birth stats of a country, there’s common trends but also so many unique names! Thanks for collecting this data.
as with the boys list, i was pleasantly surprised to see the differences between this list and my own list. they are definitely popular with the berries. thank you for doing this, though!
I’m surprised that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] did not even make the list three years ago. Also, a little surprised at [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] at #1. It is all very interesting……
Thank so much for doing this!! They’re all such lovely names!
I’ll admit I’m surprised [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] weren’t higher; I see them EVERYWHERE on here. I’m also a bit surprised that [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] (Vivian/Vivienne/Vivianne) and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] made the list, because while they’re definitely not unpopular, I thought they’d be slightly lower.
But my biggest shock by far has to be that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is #1! Yes, it’s a lovely name, and by absolutely no means is it not popular, but I wasn’t expecting it to hit the #1 spot!
Well Violet was just off the list, she ranked #26. I considered listing the whole top 100 but for the sake of space, stopped myself at 25. I was sort of disappointed in Rosemary - I can’t see me with a Rosemary, but it’s a beautiful name, it was shocking she went from 13 down to 53.
She did rank at #40 last time… just not top 25. tbh I’m shocked she’s number 2 this time; she is a classic but of all the names Nameberry has dearly loved… I never expected Elizabeth to be that high lol.
Yes, I was surprised by Tessa as well. I love Tessa but didn’t really think Nameberry loved her so well! There were 3 votes for just Tess as well.
And I’m a little surprised by Eleanor, but not too much! I feel like she’s not talked about as much anymore but she’s been loved for so long and I feel like she might not get all the attention, but she’s still dearly beloved.
I didn’t get my 25 in this time, no worries, but I’ve been making a top 100 since I was 9, which I update twice a year.
Nameberries definitely have a type and stay slightly ahead of the curve. While I like many names on the list, they aren’t reflective of my 25. [name_f]My[/name_f] style is much more obscure.
Over twenty years ago, I did have [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] in the top 20. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] bounces in and out of my top 50 but not so much since I see it crop up more in recent years. Same for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are solid names! I’ve fallen head over heels for [name_f]Clara[/name_f], though somewhat commonplace, she is my brand- new first granddaughter. I’ve actually never met a [name_f]Clara[/name_f] till her, although it’s on two sides of my family tree in 1890s (Clara [name_u]Bell[/name_u] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] Genevieve) and my mn is [name_u]Clare[/name_u].
I wish [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] wouldn’t keep soaring, yet I leave it on the list because it’s just ah!
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] has been a top 20-ish name for me since I was a teenager. While I see it listed here often, I still haven’t met one.
Oh this is fun! [name_u]Happy[/name_u] to see my beloveds (Alice, [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], Clara) ranked so high; also glad to see berries embracing [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] bc I feel like I don’t see her that much! That said a bit upset [name_u]Rose[/name_u] has dropped off so drastically - what did she do to any of you?!
Clara’s super lovely! I always was super annoyed at Nameberry for liking Clara so much better than my beloved Claire… but lately it’s grown on me and I like the tie to The Nutcracker. I’m rather smitten with Juniper Clara lately which is such a Nameberry combo!
I don’t really see Daisy climbing higher than she is right now but I guess time will tell! She’s one of my favorites; I would love to have an Adelaide nn Daisy one day. Too bad as berries we can’t be more ahead of the curve than we are, le sigh.
@Mary_Rose - hahaha sorry about the disappointments with Rose? Although, sorry not sorry. She was never my favorite, I’m more disappointed about Rosemary! But I’m not a huge fan of Rose names in general. Maybe this just means you get more of Rose all to yourself without having to share lol!
[name_f]My[/name_f] little granddaughter [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is named after me but also my son proposed to her mom at The Nutcracker on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] a few years ago (she had been an award-winning dancer). It’s a perfect fit for them!
Moreover, his childhood best friend/best man in their wedding is now having a daughter 6 months behind our [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and she will be [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f].
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] & [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] are yummy lifelong friend names!
I hope you’re right about [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I haven’t met one of those since it started climbing, either, like [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. But it has climbed pretty fast.
By obscure, I mean my taste runs more toward the 5 or less babies per year,
A few years ago when we were considering [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] i thought it might be too popular after perusing nameberry. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] my shock to discover it was unranked…
