As if I didn’t have enough naming criteria, I’ve added a rather daunting one. A name that can contain a personal emblem. What do I mean? Well, it came to me while getting ideas for [name]Christmas[/name] gifts online. There infront of me was the sweetest little necklace with an enameled bell. Perfect for my little [name]Annabel[/name] (whose family nickname is [name]Bel[/name]) when she is older. Such a beautiful representation of her name! [name]Caleb[/name] is Hebrew for dog (very fitting for my son, as I’ve never encountered a more avid lover of canines.) We even did his nursery in puppies. I want that for the next. I’m more concerned with it for a girl, what with the fun I could have with jewelry.
What names (through a nickname, meaning, etc.) can you think of with an emblem ready-made? Thanks!
Wow! That’s a hard one, hmm… okay.
Names like -
[name]Nova[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Luna[/name] - Stars and Moons and space jewelry, those little glow in the dark stars you can stick to the ceiling?
Okay, um…
[name]Violet[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Lillian[/name] etc - Flowers, flower jewelry of their specific flower.
[name]Gemma[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Amethyst[/name], [name]Jade[/name] etc - jewelry with those specific gemstones?
[name]Elizabeth[/name] etc - this name as well as other biblicals have meanings like gift from God, or [name]Lord[/name] our saviour etc, maybe cross jewelry if you’re religious? If not - I have no idea. - OR maybe a little crown, like [name]Queen[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]?
[name]Isla[/name] - a scottish place name, Thistle is the national flower, maybe something with that? Or a symbol that related to [name]Scotland[/name]. Or maybe the Luckenbooth symbol for love.
[name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] both mean free man - which I’m not really sure where you could go from there. Maybe a bird? [name]Free[/name] bird?
[name]Natalie[/name] means birthday, maybe something like a candle? kind of cheesy but it could work.
[name]Nora[/name]/[name]Norah[/name] means light. So a candle or a sun or even a star would work for this little one - The light of your life?
What names are you considering? That might help figure out emblems. (I like your question! Quite a challenge!)
Thank you!
The only ones I’ve come up with that DH has said maybe to are [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosemary[/name] (a rose) and [name]Fiona[/name] (a fairy as I’d nickname her [name]Fae[/name].) I was really hoping he’d go for the nn [name]Bee[/name] (not sure of the full name), but he wouldn’t bite. Really, the lists change almost daily, lol. He likes [name]Harper[/name] (a harp), but I find it too masculine next to [name]Annabel[/name].
[name]How[/name] fun! My suggestions for girls:
[name]Flower[/name] names ([name]Daisy[/name]/[name]Margret[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Violet[/name] etc.).
Gemstone names ([name]Ruby[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Jade[/name] etc.).
[name]Angelica[/name] - Angels
[name]Celeste[/name] - Stars and moon
[name]Luna[/name] - [name]Moon[/name]
[name]Fey[/name] - Fairies
[name]Katrina[/name] or [name]Katherine[/name] - Cats
[name]Olivia[/name] - Olives
[name]Paloma[/name] - Doves
[name]Stella[/name] or [name]Estelle[/name] - Stars
[name]Beatrice[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] – Bees
[name]Delphine[/name] - Dolphin
[name]Henrietta[/name] - Chickens
[name]Penelope[/name] - Pennies
[name]Sylvia[/name] - [name]Silver[/name]
I read on Marginamia (http://marginamia.blogspot.com) that a couple named their daughter [name]Georgia[/name], but call her Peach as a nickname.
[name]Victoria[/name] is a type of plum and [name]Florence[/name] is a type of cherry.
[name]Alexandra[/name] is a species of butterfly, as is [name]Vanessa[/name], [name]Julia[/name], [name]Dorcas[/name], [name]Drusilla[/name], [name]Adelina[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]
You could use [name]Bo[/name] (bow) as a nicknames for [name]Ambrosia[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name], [name]Bronwen[/name], [name]Isobel[/name], [name]Isabeau[/name], [name]Roberta[/name].
Others:
[name]Dove[/name] – [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Bird[/name] – Aderyn, [name]Zipporah[/name], [name]Lark[/name], [name]Branwen[/name]
[name]Love[/name] (a heart) – [name]Carys[/name], [name]Cerys[/name], [name]Kerensa[/name]
As well as names that mean “moon” you could also use a name of a moon i.e. [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Helene[/name], [name]Cressida[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Elara[/name], [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Leo[/name] - lion
[name]Philippa[/name]/[name]Pippa[/name] - horse
[name]Oscar[/name] - deer
[name]Margaret[/name] - pearl
[name]Thaddeus[/name] - heart
[name]Cordelia[/name] - heart
[name]Callum[/name] - dove
[name]Dorothy[/name] nn [name]Dot[/name] - polka dots
[name]Flora[/name] - flowers
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Posy[/name] - flowers
[name]Arthur[/name] - bear
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] - bear
[name]Deborah[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name] are names that mean honeybee
As you said, [name]Fiona[/name] a fairy and a rose for [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosemary[/name], a violet for [name]Violet[/name].
[name]Nora/name would be a little candle maybe.
[name]Charlotte[/name] the spider ([name]Charlotte[/name]'s web?)
[name]Blythe[/name] a happy face
I am an [name]Abi[/name]/[name]Abigail[/name], and have had a ‘bee’ thing going since I was a child - as in A bee/[name]Abi[/name]. My husband calls me [name]Bee[/name].
Or how about [name]Seren[/name], which means star? Goes great with bells.
Thank you all so much! I’m going to run some of these by DH. Amm, that is so cute! I’d love to use bees, but [name]Abigail[/name] is a little too close to [name]Annabel[/name].
I’m toying with [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name] (just got DH to consider it) with a tower (Eifel, castle tower, or perhaps a chess rook.) I’ve loved that name forever. I’ve taken it off the list before because of the sea of Madisons nicknamed [name]Maddie[/name] here, but I’d use [name]Minnie[/name] as her nickname at home and insist on that or the full name elsewhere.
An Eiffel [name]Tower[/name] for a little [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Madeleine[/name] is all the more appropriate given the children’s books set in [name]Paris[/name]. Those books would actually give you a theme beyond the tower thing if you wanted too, actually. Besides [name]Minnie[/name] (cute) I think you could also do [name]Mae[/name] as a nn, or fo [name]Madeleine[/name] [name]Lena[/name]/[name]Leni[/name].
All best!
I started to edit my post as soon as I posted it re the closeness to [name]Annabel[/name], but crashed, sorry. But [name]Bee[/name] is a great nn, so how about [name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name]?
Or [name]Tabitha[/name], nn [name]Tabby[/name] the cat, or [name]TabBEE[/name]?
[name]Felix[/name] for a boy, [name]Felix[/name] the cat.
I love [name]Madeleine[/name]! And the tower/rook idea. [name]Both[/name] I also loathe “[name]Maddie[/name]”. [name]Minnie[/name] is cool though. [name]How[/name] about [name]Linny[/name]/ie, [name]Linna[/name], [name]Mae[/name]? Or even a nickname from a combination of first and middle name.
The only suggestion DH okayed is [name]Tabitha[/name] (he’s insanely picky), that wasn’t already on the list. I actually really like it, too. I’ve just realized that I call [name]Annabel[/name] some form of [name]Bee[/name] quite a bit. [name]Annie[/name] [name]Bee[/name], Miss B, etc., so [name]Bee[/name] probably wouldn’t be the best nickname for the next. Any others come to mind?
My sister is [name]Amanda[/name] which means Lovable so I always associated a Heart with her name
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - A [name]Fleur[/name]-de-lis / [name]Lily[/name] (because of the “[name]Liz[/name]”)
[name]Fiona[/name] - A Snowflake (because of the meaning “white”) or a small white flower
[name]Isla[/name] - A Palm Tree (okay, pushing it, but was trying to evoke an island image)
[name]Natalie[/name] - A [name]Pine[/name] Tree, a Present, or a [name]Cross[/name] (depending upon your beliefs - something to go with the [name]Christmas[/name] theme)
[name]Verity[/name] - Lady [name]Justice[/name] or just the Scales (playing on the “truth” meaning)
[name]Henry[/name] - A Crown (name meaning “estate/home ruler”, and the name being born by many Kings, a crown if the perfect symbol for [name]Henry[/name]!) ** This is one of my favorite name/meaning/emblem combos
**
[name]Miles[/name] - An Old-fashioned [name]Toy[/name] Solider (playing upon the “solider” meaning)
[name]Owen[/name] - A Yew Tree, a Yew Tree [name]Branch[/name], or a [name]Silver[/name] Spoon (playing on the “yew tree” meaning or the “well born” meaning)
[name]Simon[/name] - A [name]Cross[/name] (to follow the story from the bible - again, depending upon your beliefs)
[name]Wyatt[/name] - A Cowboy [name]Boot[/name] or [name]Hat[/name] (to tie into the cowboyish feel)
I tried not to duplicate anything that was already done (sorry if I did), or anything that had an obvious theme (like the floral names). I’m very interested to know what you end up with!
I think it’s quite cute if they share a nn, if it isn’t the main nn. So [name]Tabitha[/name] could be bee, but mainly [name]Tabby[/name], or Tabs.
[name]Bo[/name], with the emblem bow?
I think a star name would go great with a bell emblem. See: Star, Sun Names for Girls
