i did this with our girls list yesterday, and am having so much fun playing with your dreamy suggestions, so i thought we’d do one for the boys too.
brother in heaven is [name_m]Rivers[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m], so you have an idea of the kind of names we like for a little man. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is the strongest contender currently, but we also adore [name_m]Hollis[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] or [name_m]Jude[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Oakley[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_m]August[/name_m] or [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], [name_m]Trail[/name_m], and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m].
i’d love to hear the sweet little mountain hymns you’d suggest for us! thank you, friends!
This is the sweetest description of a boy’s name ever.
I’m always here for advice, I’m rubbish at providing any new suggestions. But [name_m]Hollier[/name_m] and [name_m]Ridge[/name_m] were two names I saw recently that sort of give me mountain hymn vibes. I don’t know that [name_m]Ridge[/name_m] [name_m]Hollier[/name_m] or [name_m]Hollier[/name_m] [name_m]Ridge[/name_m] actually fits the flow of the rest of your list, but they feel mountainous to me. [name_m]Walden[/name_m], [name_m]Forge[/name_m] and [name_m]Alabaster[/name_m] do as well but are all very different.
I follow someone on Instagram who has a son named Sower [name_m]Wells[/name_m] and my husband would never let me use it because it would get confused with Sewing like a seamstress, but I loved the Biblical meaning behind why they chose it.
I think Sower would be adorable for you, and with the rise in occupational names, I don’t think it would be too difficult for people to get the hang of.
[name_m]Tolliver[/name_m]

[name_m]Roan[/name_m]
[name_m]Reid[/name_m]
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m]
[name_f]Solace[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] something strikes your fancy, good luck!
[name_m]You[/name_m] know my vote absolutely has to go to [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], but I also love [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] so much (and didn’t realize he was on your list, too!). [name_m]Trail[/name_m] is such a classic for you guys, I feel, but I’m not sure I’d use him as a first? I’m loving this vibe myself at the moment, but I think it can be so hard to nail down!
Having a moment for [name_m]Frontier[/name_m] before I start with my other suggestions, because I was scrolling through the “if you had a son today” thread and remembered him. He just brings a smile to my face! Beyond that, I’d suggest…
[name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]
[name_m]Thayer[/name_m]
[name_m]Callahan[/name_m] (or even just [name_m]Cal[/name_m])
[name_m]Elwood[/name_m]
[name_m]Elmore[/name_m]
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Vale[/name_m] / [name_m]Valor[/name_m]
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]
[name_m]Huck[/name_m] (might need a full name?)
[name_m]Acre[/name_m]
[name_m]Alder[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvary[/name_m]
[name_m]Ridge[/name_m]
[name_m]Fielder[/name_m]

With [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], I love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_m]Hollis[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], and [name_m]Jude[/name_m]
i always love pondering names in your style! here’s what’s coming to mind today:
(also seconding that i love Sower for you, and love the meaning and intention behind it!)
I really like Nolan for you, he’s classic and well-established, and definitely has vintage charm, but he’s also woodsy and brisk. he feels like a buttoned up flannel by a campfire
Cather, as in Willa Cather, feels hymnal and homestead-ish. I feel like it could work seamlessly on a boy, and i really love the sound for you.
Deacon is maybe a bit of a wildcard, but i really like him for you. Deacon was quite a popular name at my rural highschool, and i always liked the sound. the deacons i knew were all very strong and athletic, but also kind and friendly boys. i also like the church-related meaning for you.
Weaver is cool and earthy. i think he fits very well in that ‘mountainous, hymnal’ vibe you’re going for. weavers, and weaving, are also prominent in the bible, which feels perfect for you, and i like the spiritual connection and meaning of weaving as well.
another occupation name/surname name i’ve been waiting to the right person is Corder. meaning, ‘one that stitches cord or braid on fabric‘ the meaning makes him feel very sweet and soft, but like a lot of occupation names, he’s got a really cool, rustic edge. the imagery is amazing, he makes me think of little boys in corduroy overalls wading into rivers and skipping stones.
Hewitt feels like another really cool, rustic surname-y name. the meaning woodclearing feels especially outdoorsy and homestead-ish
I remember reading a children’s book series growing up with a boy called Rush i wish i could remember what the series was called, but i remember thinking it was such a cool, strong name. he feels very hymnal and special. he feels very in-line with trail from you list!
Jed, maybe even with full name Jedidiah is very woodsy and cool. plus with a slight grateful dead nod
in conclusion, my suggestions are:
Nolan
Cather
Deacon
Weaver
Corder
Hewitt
Rush
Jed
maybe some wildcards for your list, but i think they’re all so fun!
[name_m]Coridon[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], and [name_m]Roan[/name_m] are so handsome! and thank you for your reassurance on Sower. i’m considering him more and more these days!
t and i met on [name_m]Saint[/name_m] Augustine’s feast day, and so it has always felt extra special! we do the Au-GUS-tin pronunciation, which i’ve always thought was so handsome
i adore your suggestions of [name_m]Huck[/name_m] (love [name_m]Huxley[/name_m] and [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] “Huck” too!), [name_m]Oren[/name_m], [name_m]Elwood[/name_m], [name_m]Valor[/name_m], [name_m]Acre[/name_m], [name_m]Calvary[/name_m] (Cal ), [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_f]Prairie[/name_f], and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
Of course [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] similarly to your girls the list is dreamy
[name_m]You[/name_m] have automatic favourites of mine on my list I absolutely love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] & [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is such a lovely spiritual name that feels peaceful and impactful. I have [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] on my list he was introduced to me by you and @seawillow. I also love [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] he’s one of my ultimate favourites that I could envision myself using if I was to have a son. I think [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is a lovely nature name that feels spirited and carefree. I think [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] fits in with El0wyn nicely and would be an honour to brother who isn’t earthside.
Looking at your other options I love [name_m]Judah[/name_m] he’s strong and upbeat. I love the gentlemanly feel of [name_m]August[/name_m] & [name_m]Silas[/name_m] along with the more bolder spirited feel of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. [name_m]Trail[/name_m] is fun feels very YOU and I think trendy [name_m]Hollis[/name_m] has a preppy fun flair which is appealing but doesn’t feel as perfect as your others. Finally onto [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] for my [name_f]British[/name_f] ears he’s slightly predictable I prefer your other ideas.
You’ve had fabulous suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
[name_m]The[/name_m] Melendy Family series? [name_m]The[/name_m] first one is [name_m]The[/name_m] Saturdays (and that’s my favorite.) [name_m]The[/name_m] siblings are [name_f]Mona[/name_f], [name_m]Rush[/name_m], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] “Randy” and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
So many great suggestions already! [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] - feels gentle but rugged at the same time.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a couple ideas…
