for the last couple days, Iāve been playing around with a scene where one of my characters comes upon a one-eyed cat and they form a reluctant bond. at this point in the story, the character is alone and troubledā¦ she doesnāt think sheās worthy of companionship, and the cat is, well, a cat. and somewhat feral, at that. she doesnāt need[name_f][/name_f] companionship, but comes to accept it.

Iām not sure exactly what the cat looks like, other than the one eye. she is a she! I think she was born with only one eye, and sheās young, probably 2ish years old. sheās darker in color, so she can kinda blend in with the shadows of the dark hallways of the castle where she lives. sheās sleek and small, used to humans but not used to being close to them.

as for her name, Iāve been calling her [name_m]Pollux[/name_m] as a placeholder. yes, I know thatās a male mythological figure, but I think itās great for a spunky girl cat. I want some other ideas though, since I donāt have a good in-universe reason for the name [name_m]Pollux[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]- would choose the first name that comes to mind / wouldnāt think too hard about the name (as much as I want[name_f][/name_f] to pick a name with a clever meaning, the character wouldnāt be thinking that deep, and I donāt want a name with a too obvious meaning)

Appearance wise, if you want to get creative, you could potentially give the cat a differently coloured patch on a spot where the human has a scar (if any.)
As for the name, you could base it off of the area in which the character found the cat (if they were by a liquor store, name her Whiskey or something like that.)
Perhaps the role that the cat will eventually play in the story (examples would be Hunter, or Scout, seeing as itās a cat, gender may not matter as much.)
Or maybe a name resembling the word one, or depending on the context and culture, the word that means one in another language.
Or a personality trait that is immediately portrayed by the cat, such as Wrath (maybe a bit more subtle than that.)
Another thought is really common names, that someone might thing of off the top of their heads that mean one.
(All that Iāve typed, and I still prefer Cyclops āCyā over any of my advice.)

a nickname for a longer, more formal name could be cute! I was leaning towards a 2-syllable name for whatever reason but could see a nickname working. I do want the cat to have an actual name though, like a human name.

I think what I was trying to say in the last bullet is that I donāt want anything cheesy. the character naming the cat would see a bit of herself in the cat so she would pick something that feels a bit more refined. also, the character was raised extremely sheltered and has never had a pet or known anyone with a pet so I think sheād approach naming the cat like naming a human.

This cat appeared in my mind as a dusty fluff ball. Sheās dark grey/black but with a dusty bluish effect, thatās partly actual dust from her behind-the-scenes castle living and partly her natural colouring. If she was a pampered indoor cat she would have a blue tint to her dark hair. Sheās got the āfluffy trousersā effect from behind, where her long hair stops at her hocks. Sheās got a small, off-centre, white splodge just above her nose. Sheās very pretty but her expression says Iāll lacerate you if you get too close

@EdgeOfTheMeadow[name_f][/name_f] I really like [name_m]Ness[/name_m], as it gives a bit of a cryptid vibe like the [name_m]Loch[/name_m] [name_m]Ness[/name_m] monster, but the characterās name is [name_m]Cas[/name_m] so it might be too close. also like [name_f]Bex[/name_f] and [name_f]Nel[/name_f]! and I love your descriptionāespecially the part about how sheās very pretty but will lacerate you if you get too close!
