Names for my twins!

I’m 30 weeks pregnant with twins, which is very exciting and scary. They will be our first children so everything is new to us. We decided not to find out the gender, so we need boy/boy, boy/girl and girl/girl combinations. We know they aren’t identical, so there could be one of each.

I have a long list and it’s hard to narrow down, I like so many names but I still haven’t found ‘the one’. I don’t have a particular name type, I like a lot of names from all over the place. This site looks so helpful.

[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Finbarr[/name]
[name]Lorcan[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]
I love the combos [name]Orion[/name] [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Leo[/name] [name]Jacob[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name] [name]Leo[/name] but other than that I have no ideas on middle names or combos.

[name]Anya[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Talia[/name]
[name]Mya[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
I really like [name]Willow[/name] [name]Carys[/name] or [name]Carys[/name] [name]Willow[/name] but still not sure if I [name]LOVE[/name] it.

If you can think of similar names to these, that’s fab. Thanks so much for helping!

Great list! Here are some combo ideas which I think compliment each other nicely:

Girl/Girl:
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name] & [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] & [name]Carys[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] & [name]Eleanor[/name]

Have you considered: [name]Olive[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Freya[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Cora[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Sylvia[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Astrid[/name], [name]Cosima[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Tess[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Primrose[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Coraline[/name], [name]Jemima[/name]
I like [name]Willow[/name] too, but I’m not sure what it best goes with from your list.

Boy/Boy:
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Lorcan[/name] & [name]Finbarr[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Orion[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] & [name]James[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]James[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name] (maybe)

Particularly with your boys’ list I think it’d pay to think about future sibsets (if you plan to have more kids), because [name]Lorcan[/name] & [name]Finbarr[/name] will demand different sibling names to [name]Cassius[/name] and [name]Orion[/name], whose siblings will be different to [name]Henry[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]'s, etc.
Have you considered: [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Fabian[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Atticus[/name], [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Ignatius[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]Louis[/name], [name]Lysander[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Milo[/name], [name]Cosmo[/name], [name]Archer[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Linus[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Abraham[/name], [name]Alec[/name], [name]Cormac[/name], [name]Conrad[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Lyle[/name], [name]Rafferty[/name], [name]Auden[/name]

Boy/Girl:
[name]Phoebe[/name] & [name]Orion[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] & [name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] & [name]Leif[/name] (you might consider them too matchy)
[name]Beatrice[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name] (I’d rather [name]Isabel[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name])
[name]Leo[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] & [name]Orion[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]James[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Henry[/name]

Good luck!

Congratulations, and great lists!

My favorite boy combinations names are:
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]

I love the name [name]Leif[/name], I am just not sure what to pair it with. [name]Leif[/name] and [name]Anya[/name] would be nice for a b/g pair.

I personally wouldn’t pair [name]Orion[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] together, only because [name]Orion[/name] is relatively uncommon and [name]Jacob[/name] is uber popular.

For the girl/girl set, I love:

[name]Anya[/name] and [name]Talia[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name] (have you considered [name]Beatrix[/name]?)
[name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name]) and [name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]

for b/g, I love:
[name]Anya[/name] and [name]Leif[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Mya[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]

Congratulations! If I were you, I wouldn’t worry about what names sound good together. [name]Just[/name] narrow it down to your favorite names and then put them together. Same goes with middle names.

Let’s see…

[name]Orion[/name] - I like this. It’s unique and strong.
[name]Cassius[/name] - I like this too.
[name]Finbarr[/name] - Not so sure how I feel about it. It’s kind of unfriendly.
[name]Lorcan[/name] - I don’t like this. [name]Way[/name] too much teasing potential. I just keep thinking “dork.”
[name]Jacob[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Gabriel[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Leo[/name] - I love this too, but I’m not sure if it can stand alone.
[name]Rowan[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]James[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Oliver[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Leif[/name] - It’s nice in theory, but I think it would be a burden on an actual person.
[name]Henry[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Noah[/name] - [name]Love[/name].
[name]Beckett[/name] - Not so sure how I feel about it. It’s a bit too harsh. Why not [name]Emmett[/name], [name]Elliott[/name], [name]Wyatt[/name], [name]Everett[/name]?

[name]Anya[/name] - Not a fan. It sounds washed out.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - Cute!
[name]Isobel[/name] - I don’t like it. Plus, there are so many [name]Isabel[/name]/[name]Isabelle[/name]/Isabellas out there… This is just plain boring.
[name]Sophia[/name] - Pretty.
[name]Lyra[/name] - Okay, but you’d likely have pronunciation problems. (Is it LYE-ruh or [name]LEE[/name]-ruh?)
[name]Talia[/name] - Pretty!
[name]Mya[/name] - I don’t like it. See [name]Anya[/name]. Plus, this spelling is weird and would cause problems.
[name]Amelia[/name] - Pretty! [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Eleanor[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name].
[name]Matilda[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name].
[name]Beatrice[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this.
[name]Willow[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this, too.
[name]Carys[/name] - Sure.
[name]Hazel[/name] - My favorite name in the world world.
[name]Grace[/name] - Pretty! But I wouldn’t use it as a middle name (it’s overdone).

I hope you like some of these, good luck!

Good luck! I’ve included some combos I like best and some thoughts.

Girl/Girl Combos
[name]Sophia[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] (both Greek, the “Phi/Phoe” thing may be much, but it works for me)
[name]Sophia[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name] (equally popular right now if you re-spell [name]Isobel[/name], has a Spanish ring)
[name]Grace[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name] (the endings are a tie in, and they’re both a little old-fashioned)
[name]Grace[/name] & [name]Charlotte[/name] (feel soft and sweet together, and currently kind of equal in popularity)
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name] (I think [name]Isabel[/name] will be “easier,” and [name]Elinor[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name] look better together, old-fashioned)
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] (old-fashioned, the l is a nice tie in)
[name]Isobel[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] (old fashioned, the l is a nice tie in)
[name]Eleanor[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name] (old fashioned and somehow royal)
[name]Charlotte[/name] & [name]Amelia[/name] (soft and sweet, [name]Charlotte[/name]'s web and [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Bedelia[/name] for children’s lit)
[name]Amelia[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] (old-fashioned, the m and l ties them together)
[name]Matilda[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name] (old fashioned, the t ties them together)

Girl/Boy combos
[name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Sophia[/name] (classical allusions)
[name]Sophia[/name] & [name]Leo[/name] (classical allusions, o sounds, both kind of popular)
[name]Leo[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name] (Spanish feeling, the l and e overlap and o if you keep this spelling)
[name]James[/name] & [name]Grace[/name] (one syllable, a, s ending – may be too much, but not for me)
[name]Oliver[/name] & [name]Grace[/name] (old-fashioned, both kind of in right now)
[name]Oliver[/name] & [name]Charlotte[/name] (soft and sweet, both kind of in right now)
[name]Oliver[/name] & [name]Isobel[/name] (the l ties it in, and the o)
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Grace[/name] (more old-fashioned)
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Matilda[/name] (more old-fashioned)
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Beatrice[/name] (more old-fashioned)
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Eleanor[/name] (more old-fashioned, and royal)
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Amelia[/name] (somehow, just works)

Boy/Boy Combos
[name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] & [name]Noah[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] & [name]James[/name]
[name]James[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]

A few thoughts: Girls: [name]Echo[/name] is a fun name, but the teasing potential is high, and the Greek story is sad. If you want to use it, I’d do it as a middle name. I feel very similarly about [name]Hermione[/name], and to a lesser extent about [name]Lyra[/name], which is quite pretty but doesn’t seem as traditional as much of your taste. More adventurous names are great, but when I see people liking traditional names, I think they’ll be happier choosing them nine times out of ten. [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Echo[/name], and [name]Lyra[/name] could all be good nicknames for [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]. [name]Carys[/name] is pretty but largely unlike anything else you like, and to me sounds like “careless.” [name]Willow[/name] is also pretty different from anything else you like. [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] seem more similar and like they could combine with a lot of these.

Boys: [name]Micah[/name] has become extremely feminine these days and I’d make sure you consider that before using it. [name]Caspian[/name] is a great name although more out there than a lot of these. I like [name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Hermione[/name] as a middle name combination – great fantasy literature allusions, although a little tied to childhood to be fair. [name]Elliott[/name] is a great name but is just much more modern than everything else which seems English, Biblical, or Greek.

Thanks so much everyone.

I was thinking about it today, I have three main types of names but they don’t always go together. I’m stuck on which way to go.

Type 1
[name]Orion[/name], [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Lyra[/name] etc, the more unusual and original names.

Type 2
Traditional English names like [name]Henry[/name], [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name].

Type 3
The more popular, and common names such as [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name].

I just don’t know which type I love the most, and if this helps, I imagine having one more child, but not for a number of years.

Maybe your best bet is to go with type 2 or 3 for first names and use your more unusual favorites (type 1) as middle names? Or choose type 1 firsts and a stronger, more common middle.

lol that was no help right?

While I don’t see [name]Orion[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] as siblings, I do think sometimes people (esp. in a message board setting based around the love for names!) put too much importance on names going together. Your lists 2 and 3 could blend together well. You may also find a few names in type 1 (the ones you listed don’t quite do it for me) that can also work with 2 or 3. I do understand why you are feeling pressure to pick names now though because it will affect how you name children down the line.

Yes, you were helpful crunchymama!

Thanks everyone, so my boyfriend suddenly said how he loved [name]Maia[/name], so that’s now an option. My favourite boys names are [name]Noah[/name], [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Orion[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] but I’m sure it will change tomorrow. For my girl names I still like [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Lyra[/name], [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name].

Any more help would be marvelous!

I love [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Orion[/name] together for some reason! I think its the strong “i” in each name that is making them have a fantastic link. Not in a way that makes them matchy matchy twin names, just subtle! [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Cassius[/name] are also great together!

Good luck!

Congratulations on your twins! I have twins too, so I’m always super-excited when I hear about/see twin babies. From your lists, it seems like the traditional/English names are most prevalent, and you have so many great options for a future sibling, too. I agree with another poster; don’t worry too much about the names “matching”. Chances are if they’re both names you like, they’ll have some stylistic similarities anyway. Btw, I love [name]Leo[/name] and [name]James[/name]; two of my top names if my baby is a boy (though I just have a feeling it’s a girl this time).

My identical boys are [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Enzo[/name] and [name]Carlos[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]. Names we really liked individually, and now they’re an inseparable sibling set.

Spunky,

[name]Orion[/name] - Wow, right off the bat, you’re proving to be an adventurous namer! I like the sound and feel of [name]Orion[/name]…it looks a bit like “onion”, but then plenty of names look similar to words, so I don’t think that this would be much of a problem.
[name]Cassius[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one, too! Really great sound and image!
[name]Finbarr[/name] - I love hearing names that I haven’t heard before. I must say, [name]Finbarr[/name] has a very masculine, manly feel to it, yet the “[name]Fin[/name]” softens it. Another great one.
[name]Lorcan[/name] - A favorite of mine. Rolls off the tongue so well.
[name]Jacob[/name] - I like the sound all right, and I certainly like the nn [name]Jack[/name], but [name]Jacob[/name] is a bit too popular for my tastes. Also, I always see the image of a sweaty werewolf. Thank you, Twilight.
[name]Gabriel[/name] - Again, I like it, but I hear it pretty often, which taints my view of it.
[name]Leo[/name] - A very fun name! Personally, I like it best as a nn ([name]Lennox[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], etc.), but it’s acceptable by itself.
[name]Rowan[/name] - Good, solid name. There might be some gender confusion, though.
[name]James[/name] - I have a soft spot for [name]James[/name]. No matter how popular it gets, it always seems so perfectly classic. Sort of the male [name]Elizabeth[/name].
[name]Oliver[/name] - I like this one, I do! But the popularity just gets me!
[name]Leif[/name] - SOOOO cool! I want to know a baby [name]Leif[/name]!!! Out of curiosity, is this “leef” or “layf”? Either way, I love it.
[name]Henry[/name] - [name]Even[/name] though this one is getting popular, I still love it. Very upperclass, very handsome.
[name]Noah[/name] - Unfortunately, I’ve known girl Noahs. Also, my parents like to do [name]Valley[/name] Girl impersonations where “no” gets turned into “noooo-ahhhhh!” Yeah, I’m a little biased there. For a similar soft Biblical name w/ 2 syllables, try [name]Ezra[/name].
[name]Beckett[/name] - I’ve always thought this has a dashing feel, but a voice in the back of my head tells me that if this caught on, it would be the next [name]Aidan[/name]-esque name.

[name]Anya[/name] - For some reason, I’ve never felt too strongly about [name]Anya[/name] by itself. I guess I just prefer [name]Anna[/name]. I’ve always imagined [name]Anya[/name] as a nn for a madly stunning [name]Anastasia[/name], though.
[name]Phoebe[/name] - When I was younger, I strongly disliked this one, but it’s grown on me. [name]Phoebe[/name] seems like the girl next door that doesn’t realize how absolutely charming she is.
[name]Isobel[/name] - Another one that the popularity bothers me. (Although, technically, I guess it’s the popularity of [name]Isabella[/name], but same difference). I think my fave spelling of this name is [name]Isabelle[/name], but I would still only use it in the middle, I think. It really is a gorgeous name, though!
[name]Sophia[/name] - [name]Even[/name] though this is popular, I [name]ADORE[/name] it!!! The meaning, the sound, ahhh… The only names that really match it in it’s style are [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Sylvia[/name]. [name]Ophelia[/name] could give it a run for it’s money, too. (Or [name]Philippa[/name] could be nn’d Phia.)
[name]Lyra[/name] - I believe this is the character from the [name]Golden[/name] Compass? It’s been a while since I read those books, but it left me with a good feel for the name, even if it’s not my favorite.
[name]Talia[/name] - I like the [name]Thalia[/name] spelling a wee bit more. Pretty name, though.
[name]Mya[/name] - Not crazy about this one, which I’m assuming is a spelling of [name]Maya[/name], not [name]Mia[/name] (I think with [name]Mya[/name], people would constantly be confused and pronouncing it incorrectly).
[name]Amelia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one! Charming name with a beautiful countenance.
[name]Eleanor[/name] - Another one that is just gorgeous! I love the long list of nn’s, too: [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Elen[/name], etc.
[name]Matilda[/name] - Wow, you’re on a roll, aren’t you? [name]Matilda[/name] is just BREATH-TAKING!! I hope this one doesn’t catch on too much, because I’m in love with it. Seriously. I wish I was a [name]Matilda[/name].
[name]Beatrice[/name] - Again, I truly think this name (as well as [name]Beatrix[/name], depending on the combo) is oh-so elegant.
[name]Willow[/name] - Not my fave, I will admit, but not awful either.
[name]Carys[/name] - I love the meaning, and [name]Carys[/name] and [name]Kerensa[/name]/[name]Kerenza[/name] (also “love”) would be great mn’s for girl twins, no? ([name]Grainne[/name]/[name]Grania[/name]/Granya is also associated with love, as is [name]Amandine[/name].)
[name]Hazel[/name] - Very much reminds me of the feel of [name]Matilda[/name]. [name]Love[/name] this one!!!
[name]Grace[/name] - [name]Grace[/name] really does have grace. Not my favorite of your list, but a decent name.

G/G:

  • [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Carys[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Kerensa[/name]. (I. COMPLETELY. [name]LOVE[/name]. THIS. I really, really, really hope you consider this combo if you have twin girls.)
  • [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Olive[/name] & [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Louise[/name].
  • [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Saskia[/name] & [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Willow[/name].

B/B:

  • [name]Orion[/name] [name]Demetri[/name] & [name]Cassius[/name] [name]Hector[/name].
  • [name]Finbarr[/name] [name]Mulligan[/name] & [name]Lorcan[/name] [name]Alphonsus[/name].
  • [name]Jack[/name] [name]Thurstan[/name] & [name]Leif[/name] [name]Nicolai[/name].

B/G:

  • [name]Finbarr[/name] [name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]. (PS: I’m in love with this one, too.)
  • [name]Orion[/name] [name]Cassius[/name] & [name]Calypso[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name].
  • [name]Leif[/name] [name]Amadeus[/name] [name]Esmond[/name] & [name]Freya[/name] [name]Carys[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. *Mn’s have similar meanings.

Good luck with your naming!

I’ll just do some mix and match and see if you like anything. I’ll put similar style and overlapping ones together.

Particular favorites are [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name] (very rhythmic together) or [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name] (look great together because of the "o).

[name]Anya[/name] and [name]Talia[/name], [name]Anya[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name]

Okay so now I’m going to do MN’s for the combos I chose.

[name]James[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] [name]Cassius[/name]

[name]Henry[/name] [name]Cassius[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Isobel[/name]

[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Leo[/name]

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Anya[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name] [name]Talia[/name]

I didn’t see your additional names when I replied last night! Here are my thoughts:
[name]Elliot[/name] - I don’t really like [name]Elliot[/name] – it seems like it could turn genders pretty quickly in this day and age. As mentioned in another post on this thread, I think, [name]Everett[/name] could work in its place.
[name]Caspian[/name] - [name]Caspian[/name] is great! Sooooo handsome!! If you’re looking for a “prince-y” name, [name]Casimir[/name] is also very similar, as is the feminine Casimira.
[name]Micah[/name] - This has never been a fave of mine, not sure why.

[name]Charlotte[/name] - I like, though sometimes I prefer [name]Charlotta[/name]/[name]Carlotta[/name]. I’m hearing this one a lot more often, but if you use a cute nn like [name]Lottie[/name], it makes the name totally yours. Very similar feel to [name]Sophia[/name], as well as [name]Georgiana[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Frederica[/name].
[name]Hermione[/name] - Sure, this is very closely tied to [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], but I love this name, and I’ve got to say, the character is definitely a good role model. (I mean, quite a few people like [name]Bellatrix[/name], so at least [name]Hermione[/name] isn’t a crazy psychopath.) If the connection still worries you at all (or maybe it didn’t worry you in the first place!), then you could also consider the similar [name]Hermia[/name] and [name]Evadne[/name].
[name]Echo[/name] - [name]Love[/name], love, love [name]Echo[/name]! To me, [name]Echo[/name] and [name]Hero[/name] would be perfect mn’s for twins.

Some other names for you to ponder (as if you don’t have enough already):

[name]Cadmus[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name]

NameGoddess

Thanks everyone, you are so fab.

asophie1, I like [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Orion[/name] together, but the boyfriend isn’t too keen, said they sound weird together :frowning:

Some combinations we both agree on.

[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Cassius[/name]
[name]James[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]
[name]James[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]James[/name]
[name]Noah[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Finbarr[/name] and [name]Lorcan[/name] (Not loving it, but they go together and bf’s keen)
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Orion[/name] (bf likes this more than me)

[name]Cassius[/name] and [name]Maia[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] (I know they’re popular but I love [name]Jake[/name] and [name]Ellie[/name] as nn)
[name]James[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]James[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name] (Maybe too themey?)
[name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Willow[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name] so cute)
[name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]

What do you guys think of these combos?

hello! i think you have pretty similar taste to me in some respects (unusual, particular love of Greek names, romantic, serious but soft names). i am expecting twins too, and had such a hard time ‘pairing’ but i will give this my best shot. (there are a mad amount on nameberry at the moment btw. has anyone else noticed this?)
i haven’t written any suggestions, as the previous posters have given some amazing ones and really i think you have such a good list as it is. too much choice can be paralysing; you end up adding more rather than getting an idea of which ones are sticking out as the special ones.

My favourites
[name]Orion[/name]- love this, its my son’s middle name! i haven’t had to deal with people pronouncing it after only seeing it written down (i mainly have just spoken it aloud to people who ask so it isn’t a problem) but when i was writing it to people after his birth, people would ALWAYS say it back to me ‘O-reeon’ rather than ‘O-rye-on’. it works as a middle name so well though; gives a first name that extra glow!
[name]Caspian[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] THIS! dreamlike but boyishly charming. i would be thrilled for somebody to use this. very associated with [name]Narnia[/name] but to me, that is a great association anyway. it isn’t like a modern craze which will become dated very quickly.
[name]Cassius[/name]- another contender when naming my first child. the long ‘S’ sound it so inviting.
[name]Rowan[/name]- a favourite for me for girls and boys. sounds so gentle but strong for a boy, i think. i would pair this with a clearly masculine middle name though i think! it isn’t on your list but i think [name]Rowan[/name] [name]William[/name] sounds perfect. The repeated ‘W’ really finished it off?
[name]Gabriel[/name]- beautiful, uncommon here in the UK too.
[name]Leo[/name]- love this, but very short. if you have another short name to go with it then great. but otherwise, [name]Leopold[/name] is a stunning choice too imo. reminds me of a playful lion cub. haha

Like, but not [name]Love[/name]…
[name]Finbarr[/name]- a more unusual kick to the very popular ‘[name]Finn[/name]’. interesting, but hasn’t got that long-term ‘wow’ i don’t think.
[name]Henry[/name]- a classic. everyone loves this name, it feels like. but maybe that is its bad point too?
[name]Oliver[/name]- ditto this name. popular; well loved but also well used.

Not Special (for me)
[name]Lorcan[/name]- to me this sounds very Irish and earthy. an interesting choice, but maybe hard to team with some of your other names.
[name]Jacob[/name]- have just never liked the sound of this one, a bit bland to me
[name]James[/name]- same with [name]James[/name]
[name]Leif[/name]- i can’t help just thinking ‘leaf spelled wrong’
[name]Noah[/name]- respectable but nothing special
[name]Beckett[/name]- seems to be having a spike in popularity at the moment, but still has that surnamey feeling to me, which i personally can’t buy into
[name]Micah[/name]- this to me has just never looked like a name. just a personal thing though
[name]Elliot[/name]- doesn’t have the weight and whim of your other choices

and now for the girls!

Favourites
[name]Hermione[/name]- well, i am biased as i am using this for my daughter to be born’s middle name ([name]Juno[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]) but it is just so beautiful. people will of course think ‘[name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]’ but only initially. Personal associations always override initial pop culture things. Ancient, and Shakespearean, it is a name with a lot of story and a beautiful link to Greek mythology. the nicknames are great too if she ever feels self-conscious of having such a grand name!
[name]Hazel[/name]- what a name! very popular here on nameberry but so underused in the big wide world. the quirky little ‘Z’ makes it lighthearted, it has an Autumnal cosiness about it but still makes me think of a beautiful willowy young woman
[name]Lyra[/name]- I love the ‘Dark Materials’ books in which [name]Lyra[/name] is the heroine. A feisty one she is too! Again, the ‘y’ in the middle makes this name intriguing and energetic.
[name]Maia[/name]- lovely meaning, feminine sound. not much else to say! a hit.
[name]Anya[/name]- have never considered this one too much but actually really like the sound.
[name]Beatrice[/name]- a long time favourite for me. cute but not ‘cutesy’ and with grace and sensibility without being too popular.

Like A lot but not quite on the favourites pile!
[name]Echo[/name]- I considered [name]Echo[/name] for a long time, but i just think you have to be so brave to use it as a first name. as a middle name; fantastic
[name]Talia[/name] (If spelled [name]Thalia[/name])- i can’t shake the feeling that it looks slightly tacky without the ‘h’. a gorgeous Greek name though, again
[name]Phoebe[/name]- like this, but very popular in the UK where i am. some people have said that the sound fee-bee and the rhyminess sounds silly. maybe ignore them though? haha
[name]Eleanor[/name]- lovely looking and sounding name. but doesn’t have the wow factor for me
[name]Willow[/name]- liked this a lot but sadly the approach of [name]Willow[/name] [name]Smith[/name] threatens to make this a frenzied chart topper
[name]Matilda[/name]- sweet and lighthearted. yep, approve.
[name]Amelia[/name]- ditto

Less than Favourite
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]- right, the above names to me are too overused where i am for me to like. i hear them EVERYWHERE and after a while i don’t even notice them anymore
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Mya[/name]- these two to me (and I know [name]Carys[/name] is an old Welsh name so its silly to say) look so odd written down. I don’t know. am not loving them!

so there’s what i think; hope none of it reads as harsh or [name]OTT[/name]. haha
its hard when you get so many contradicting opinions
in terms of combinations, i do think that you should use names with the same sort of feel for twins, but nothing too matchy matchy.
here are some, out of the names I like better (biased combos!) which i think work, anyway:

Boy/Boy
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Cassius[/name]- just great
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]- a bit starsignesque maybe, but they sound fun and feisty!
[name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]- very heroic!
[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]- I love this as a pair in fact. Well suited in their classic strength.
[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]- something feels nicely linked between the two. Maybe the natural link of rowan trees and olives? haha
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]- the very best of the classics put together
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Finbarr[/name]- tied together by the 'R’s and they do sound pretty good together.

Girl/Girl (have just gone through so many weeks of girl/girl pairs! Must be an expert by now)
[name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]- each tied by their link to a children’s book heroine. Each with an M and an I but a distinctly different sound. [name]Minnie[/name] and [name]Tilly[/name] sound great as shortenings too. What do you think?
[name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]- not perfect maybe, but [name]Lyra[/name] was tricky. [name]Both[/name] have an interesting letter in the middle and have the complimentary ‘ay’ and ‘eye’ sounds.
[name]Maia[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Maia[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]- these two sound like twins already!
[name]Willow[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Anya[/name] and [name]Talia[/name]- these two flow together, yesssss!
[name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name]- both have the lovely central ‘O’ but a different sound. That wins it for me.
[name]Anya[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name]- same ending but different sound. What sweet little girls they would make.

Boy/Girl
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]- I think its the shared letters and the ancient link which makes these so right together!
[name]Orion[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Cassius[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]- these two share a double letter and make a handsome pair
[name]Cassius[/name] and [name]Maia[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]- really love these together actually!
[name]Finbarr[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]- ditto these two! Quirky and cute
[name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]- these have the same soft hallowed sound to them
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lyra[/name]- if you don’t mind the two Ls these are so great
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Hermione[/name]- though I don’t like [name]Beckett[/name], these two are tempting as a pair
[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Anya[/name]- interesting, unique and sparky!
[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Hermione[/name]- love this pairing. Sure, one is more of a mouthful but they make a great team!
[name]Maia[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]

wow, have been writing forever.
please let us know what you think/if you need more advice.
whenever there is a twins post i pounce these days. X

Wow, some wonderful and helpful opinions and ideas my brain is whirling. I’ll have to talk to the bf and sit on it for a few days and then I’ll be back. On a side note, I’m 31 weeks and 5 days now, so excited for when they’re born.
