My husband and I both like the nickname [name]DeeDee[/name], but not as a first name, since [name]DeeDee[/name] on its own lacks gravitas ([name]Dee[/name] [name]Dee[/name] Myers excepted). Can you suggest any names that would lead to [name]DeeDee[/name]? They don’t have to start with D…
I like [name]Marguerite[/name] –> [name]Daisy[/name] –> [name]DeeDee[/name], but that’s a bit of a stretch.
Something like [name]Cordelia[/name] or [name]Edith[/name] would work, but my husband is not so fond of what he considers to be “old lady names”–although I like them.
Or [name]Sadie[/name]?
I think it could work for any D name. I used to babysit a girl named [name]Delilah[/name] who went by didi. I think it could also work if you use the initials dd.
Thanks everyone! I’m liking the less obvious ones–names that don’t start with D. Some great suggestions here! I love [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Sidonie[/name], [name]Adelia[/name], [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name]… Although my husband likes more common names and will probably go for [name]Madeline[/name] over the others. I like [name]Madeline[/name], but my sister used it as a MN for her daughter…
[name]Adelaide[/name] is perfect for the less obvious as it has two "de"s in it!
I know you aren’t looking for a D-name, but I love [name]Dahlia[/name] so I can’t help but suggest it.
Personally, I think any D- name or with a dee- sound in it would work. I love [name]Delia[/name], personally. My uncle’s GF is named Dinara, which is somewhat uncommon yet pretty and would fit.
I’ve known two people who went by [name]Didi[/name]. [name]One[/name] was my grandmother, whose full name was [name]Odile[/name]. Another was named Alet@, but somehow she ended up with [name]Didi[/name] when she was born because her sister couldn’t pronounce the full name.
I would agree with this, but I especially like it as a nn for names with two “Ds” like [name]Deirdre[/name] or [name]Deandra[/name].
The only [name]DeeDee[/name] I’ve ever met (besides [name]Barbie[/name]'s bandmate in [name]Barbie[/name] and the Rockers, haha) was called [name]Delia[/name]. I’ve always loved that name & the [name]Johnny[/name] [name]Cash[/name] song, except I have heard the American store “[name]Delia[/name]'s” isn’t well regarded. I’ve never been to one, so I can’t say.
When I was a kid I knew a Deanine. She didn’t got by [name]Deedee[/name], but I have always liked it. [name]Deedee[/name] could work. I have never met another Deanine. I have heard the name [name]Deanie[/name] though, so they could have been Deanine’s.
Anyway, here are some other names that could have the nn [name]Deedee[/name]:
[name]Cassidy[/name]
[name]Melody[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Nadine[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Wendy[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Mercedes[/name]
[name]India[/name]
[name]Indiana[/name]
[name]Jadine[/name]
Before I read your post I thought ‘[name]Cordelia[/name]’, I think [name]DeeDee[/name] could easily work for this- i would use it as a nn and [name]Cordelia[/name] is on my list for future bubs.
Or just plain [name]Delia[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name]?
