So, choosing a good name for our mixed race baby hasn’t been the easiest, mostly because I’m just not sure what they will look like! My husband is Filipino and Japanese, and I am Scandinavian and Celtic. We both love our cultures and want to bring them into our baby name. We want a unique but not over-the-top name that is classic with a modern twist. Kind of a hard check list! We don’t know yet if it is a boy or girl, and will likely wait to be surprised. These are my top choices, and we could use all the advice we can get!
Girls:
Maleia [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] ([name_f]Leila[/name_f] for short?)
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f]
[name_f]Emi[/name_f] [name_u]Laine[/name_u]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] is pretty. [name_f]Emi[/name_f] is a little cutesy for my comfort level (do you like Emiko [name_u]Laine[/name_u] nn [name_f]Emi[/name_f]?). Maleia [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be my second choice. Kaito [name_u]James[/name_u] is quite awesome. I love the name [name_m]Silas[/name_m]. Have you considered [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Kaito as a combo? I find [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] Elizan too matchy with the “n” endings. I wouldn’t worry about the looks of your child. Children have a strange tendency to grow into their names. Good luck!
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Kaito!! [name_f]May[/name_f] I also suggest [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Elizan? [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] is cute, but getting too overdone where I live. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] my favorite of your girls, though I think they’re all lovely! I think you’ve got great taste!
Maybe something like Mariko for a girl? It’s Japanese, but definitely has a European flavor to it. Other Japanese girls’ names that have that either-way feel (like the names you already listed) are [name_f]Miya[/name_f], [name_u]Akira[/name_u], [name_f]Hana[/name_f], [name_f]Mika[/name_f]/[name_f]Miki[/name_f], [name_f]Noa[/name_f], [name_f]Rin[/name_f]/[name_f]Rina[/name_f]. For boys names in that category, I’d put [name_m]Jiro[/name_m], [name_m]Ken[/name_m] (and related names), [name_f]Ryo[/name_f]/[name_u]Rio[/name_u].
Maleia [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] ([name_f]Leila[/name_f] for short?) - I don’t really like
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Mei[/name_f] :).
[name_f]Emi[/name_f] [name_u]Laine[/name_u] - [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_u]Laine[/name_u] nn [name_f]Emi[/name_f] … My fav!!
Kaito [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] Kaede - I love [name_m]Silas[/name_m]! Not a fan of the others…
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u] Elizan
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the idea of Emiko in stead of [name_f]Emi[/name_f], it sounds more sophisticated and we can call her [name_f]Emi[/name_f] for short. I also like [name_f]Miya[/name_f] and [name_m]Jiro[/name_m]. Thanks so much for the input, everybody! I really appreciate it
I like most of the names (except aiden as it is so popular but I understand the Eurpean history of the name).
my favorite are Maleia and [name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_f]My[/name_f] mum is Japanese and my dad is Australia. They named me [name_f]Emi[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and use to not like my name because I thought it was to different but now I love it
I wouldn’t worry about your child looking like their name. I have bi-racial cousins who fit their name perfectly even if it jars someone at first to meet an [name_f]Asian[/name_f] boy named [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] or [name_u]Riley[/name_u].
They will grow into their names. I really like [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Kaito.
I really like Maleia [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & Kaito [name_u]James[/name_u]. Kaito especially! I also like Mariko and Emiko.
If I have kids they will be half Ecuadorian (maybe a bit Japanese too but he’s not sure) and half Caucasian (Irish, [name_m]German[/name_m], [name_m]French[/name_m], Scottish, English, and maybe some Welsh and Native American). I have a really hard time finding names I like that would honor the Ecuadorian side. I just can barely find any Spanish names I like, especially paired with the names I do like that aren’t Spanish! I’ve even tried finding names in Quechua and they appeal to me more but I don’t think there are a whole lot to choose from. I like what you’ve done though, very nice combinations and mix of names from different origins!
