In Nameberry’s description for [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], it says that “[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] works particularly well with single-syllable surnames.” What are some other names or types of names that you think work well with single-syllable surnames?
Our surname is one syllable starting with an ‘S’ and I find it hard to think of names that go well with it.
My suggestion is to look for names that have the same amount of syllables and the same rhythm as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. Then my suggestions are:
- [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
- [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
- [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
- [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
- [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]
- [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
- [name_m]Damian[/name_m]
- [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
- [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]
- [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
- [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
- [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
- [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
- [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
- [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
I hope this helps you!
Some more suggestions (more unusual ones):
- [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
- [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m]
- [name_m]Callister[/name_m]
- [name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
- [name_m]Forrester[/name_m]
- [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m]
- [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m]
- [name_m]Melchior[/name_m]
- [name_m]Whitaker[/name_m]
- [name_m]Xavior[/name_m]
Some of these names might be too unusual for you but I hope this still helps!
Thank you both! You’ve given me some good ones to think about.
Does anyone else have thoughts on choosing names to go with a single-syllable surname?
My SO has a one syllable last name too so I understand the struggle. Him and his siblings have 2 or more syllable names and they work just fine. However some one syllable names work just fine with one syllable surnames. Take [name_m]Brad[/name_m] [name_m]Pitt[/name_m] for example. His name for example has all different sounds so it sounds good together. I think as long as the sounds are difference enough, a one syllable first name could work depending on the last name. [name_m]Sean[/name_m] and [name_u]Shay[/name_u] may not work for you, but [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] may work.
