Names for the brave?

What are some names for a girl that you love but don’t feel brave enough to use?

Gertrude! Haha, I just love it, [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] so strong and cute all at the same time, but I couldn’t do that to a girl knowing how often it is used as an example of an ugly name that no one likes. Lots of heavier names, especially old german names appeal to me, but [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] is probably the “worst”.

Pansy - It’s got such a prim and proper, kind of cottagecore appeal. I love how delicate and frilly it is, but there’s no ignoring the homophobic slur it’s synonymous with.

Zsa [name_f]Zsa[/name_f] - It’s too nicknamey, simple as. And it’s a pet-peeve of mine when boys (like my son) are given more formal names while girls are given ditsy-sounding diminutives.

Psyche - Names like [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m], and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] are the standard where I live. And I think that [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] would come across as really try-hard and possibly a bit embarrassing. :frowning:

Annunziata is the main one (sadly now associated with a not very nice politician in the UK)

Thames is another big love of mine. I think it would be just darling on a girl but I can see it being hard to wear every day

Would like to echo [name_f]Zsazsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] also - I adore them but the former is inextricable from the namesake and anyone I’ve met called the latter has been caricature levels of posh

I really like these names, but they just seem a bit too bold for my community.
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f]
Almalexia
[name_f]Nefertari[/name_f]
[name_f]Polyhymnia[/name_f]
Euphrosyne
Melpomene

Willowdean - this is my secret crush name and I actually don’t know why I like it so much ! I

Bernadette - I adore [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] and all the amazing nicknames it encompasses however I don’t think it would be received well. I want a B name for the next babe and it’s a family name but I think generally it’s a big name to wear

Regina / [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] - I feel like people associate these names too strongly to anatomy for me to consider

Eglantine, there’s something so appealing about the sound but that eggy beginning really makes it a no go for me.

Also maybe [name_f]Silence[/name_f], though I feel like I could talk myself into that one.

Tigerlilly- it’s so strong and frilly sounding! But it’s too long/out there/doesn’t fit with our sibset.

[name_f]Hecate[/name_f] - I love it, but it has a bit of an aggressive sound that I don’t think would be well received here (we’ll see if that changes but for now)

Bee. One of my favorite names ever, but I’ve gotten quite a mixed reaction…maybe as a mn.

Not sure, really? I have names like this for boys, like [name_m]Barzillai[/name_m] and Pudens, but I’m not sure about girls? Maybe [name_f]Madelief[/name_f] and [name_u]Dagny[/name_u]… they received scathing reviews from my family, which makes me so sad. I think I might still use them as middles, though? [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] is on my top 3, so if I could find the right combo for [name_f]Madelief[/name_f], I’d probably use her too. Other than that, maybe [name_u]Yuval[/name_u], but I’d use her as a middle.

Eilidh DEFINITELY, though; that’s the only one I’d truly want to use up front but don’t think I could pull the trigger. I polled a couple of coworkers a while back and they said everything from [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] to Eyelid and it just breaks my heart, especially since it honors family. Maybe one day I could use [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] as a middle, but it would make my heart happy to use her up front…

Saoirse. It sounds so beautiful and has an amazing meaning, but I can just imagine my mom trying to figure out how to pronounce it!

I know I love it. But I’m typically not the biggest fan of [name_u]Willow[/name_u], but something about willowdean just warms my heart
