[name_f]My[/name_f] sister and I were tracing our family tree and we got pretty far back (1500s on one side).
Here are some girl names from our family’s history that we thought were interesting (good or bad).
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you love them, hate them, would you use them in 2021? What do you think?
Honestly. The vast majority of my female ancestors are named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], or [name_u]Anne[/name_u] so I have to include them even though I feel like they’re possibly the most basic name ever?
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]- I like it, just wouldn’t use it because I like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] better for example
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]- I used to love this name… now not so much
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]- I like it and could use it
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]- not my favorite but it works
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- not sure how the middle is pronounced but sounds interesting
[name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] (!!!)- now this is lovely, I would use it without any doubts… LOVE THIS NAME!
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]- once again, I really like this one and would use it with no problems
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]- sounds more like a nickname
[name_f]Alma[/name_f]- it means Sould and I kinda like it
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f]- I prefer [name_f]Esther[/name_f] or [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]- I like it and would use it if it wasn’t already used by a family member
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]- I like this one a lot as well
[name_f]Rachael[/name_f]- I have mixed fellings about this one
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]- not my cup of tea but would love to hear it on another girl
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]- I love it and it’s on my long list
[name_f]Emelie[/name_f] (She was called [name_f]Emme[/name_f])- I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] but [name_f]Emme[/name_f] is cute
I said exactly the same thing regarding [name_f]Mavis[/name_f]. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is so much prettier to me.
[name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] was my absolute favorite from this list!!

I like most of them ok. I would consider using [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f] pronouncing it like All-ma not like [name_m]Al[/name_m]-ma… [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]. Dont care for [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] personally.
I’m intrigued by [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f]! What a bright, cool name.
Annie [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] are lovely. [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], Hattiw and [name_f]Alma[/name_f] are sweet too
These are all such lovely names! I absolutely love [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emelie[/name_f].
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]… I don’t love it. I don’t know if it’s super wearable for a little girl, but maybe she’d grow into it? Summer… I always thought it was strictly a 90’s name, but I keep hearing it lately. It has positive connotations. Rowena… The name of the temptress-y teen in Mr. [name_u]Holland[/name_u]'s Opus, but hardly anyone remembers that. Also [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] Ravenclaw from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. ElsieKate… That’s pretty cute! AnnieMyrtle… I really like [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]…I dunno. Mahalia… Sounds Polynesian and lovely. Cecily… Always makes me think of [name_f]Sicilly[/name_f]. It’s a nice name. Hattie… Cute, vintage, has the word hat in it. Alma… Means “soul”, I think, which is really cool. I like it. Eileen… Seems a little stuck in the era of Nancys and Cynthias, but maybe it could make a comeback. Esther… Timeless, biblical, nice. Samantha…Also timeless in the best way. Rachael…It’s surprisingly dropped quite a bit in popularity, which might make now the perfect time to use it. Priscilla… Hm, I dunno. Constance… Has a strong, firm sound to it. Emelie (She was called Emme) I really like that one, too!
Love [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Emelie[/name_f], …hmmm and not so much [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f], but maybe [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] instead!
We found [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] in the mid 1700s in our family tree. we thought it sounded Polynesian and that it stood out a lot, but it’s actually Hebrew and biblical!!! It means tenderness. It went straight onto my list. I love it so much. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom said that if she had ever heard that name before she had her babies one of us would’ve been blessed with it.

I like a lot of these! in 2021 I would use some, like [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Mahalia[/name_f] (is beautiful btw), [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], and [name_f]Emelie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] are nice too! They’re all really good names! The only ones I wouldn’t use are [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], and [name_f]Mavis[/name_f].
