Who’s excited to see The Giver when it comes out in theaters this month?! It’s been my favorite book series since I was a little girl, so I’m super excited to see it come to life! I’m re-reading the book so that it’s fresh in my mind when I see the movie and I noticed that some of the names used don’t really go together and I was wondering what you all think of them! So here are some of the names from the book that I thought were interesting!
I love The Giver so much! The whole series is great (have you read the fourth one–[name_m]Son[/name_m]? It is SO good) but The Giver still blows the other three out the water, imo. I’m really excited for the movie–I just hope to goodness they did it right and don’t ruin it. Name-nerd me has always been intrigued by the names in The Giver. Like you said, there’s a lot of different styles, many of which don’t go together.
Of the ones you listed, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. I definitely don’t like [name_m]Pierre[/name_m], [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_f]Larissa[/name_f], [name_m]Roberto[/name_m], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], or [name_f]Edna[/name_f]. The rest are nice names but not my absolute favorites.
I checked out [name_m]Son[/name_m] from the library, so unfortunately I don’t have it in front of me to reference, but it was a gold-mine of names, especially some really great Welsh ones! [name_f]Bethan[/name_f] and [name_f]Eira[/name_f] are the only two I can remember off the top of my head.
I haven’t read [name_m]Son[/name_m]! [name_m]How[/name_m] did I not hear about this?! The other books in the series really are great, so I hope they make them into movies. From what I’ve read about the movie, it sounds like it’s not going to be very true to the book, but I still want to see it if only as a new Sci-Fi movie!
Welsh names are so unique, I’m looking forward to seeing which ones are in the book! Thanks for the reply!
I loved the book (I heard it was a series but kind of forgot, but I really want to continue them). I want to see the movie but just hope they didn’t
ruin it lol.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite names from The Giver are [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. The others range from “eh” to “ew”. But yes the names used in the book do seem to be all over the place.
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] are some of my favorite names. Lots of good names in the Giver. As for some of the names being quite different in style, that’s due to the fact that there could only be one person at any time with a name in their community (which I found interesting)… so that would really limit what names a newchild could be given. So some of them were kind of odd or out there. The only name I really don’t like is [name_m]Roberto[/name_m].
I just started reading this series (I’ve finished the first three, and I’m waiting for [name_m]Son[/name_m] to come in at the library). I’m looking forward to seeing the film, but parts of the trailer have me worried they might have changed it too much. We’ll see.
Yea, the names don’t all seem to go together. I wonder how they picked which names would be used and recycled in the society. These are my favorites:
