Someone recently posted a link on Facebook to some birth records from a small [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] town. I thought some of you might be interested in some of the names. Some we’ve heard before. Others may be new or forgotten. By the way, some names are the parents’ and some are the babies’ names. It is my understanding that the information was taken from family bibles. I’ve thrown in a few that are popular now, too (to show how what’s old is new again). Here goes:
[name_u]Abijah[/name_u] (Incidentally, this name appears in my family history for several generations.)
Carrollista [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_m]Job[/name_m] [name_m]Sampson[/name_m]
[name_u]Alvah[/name_u]
[name_f]Ina[/name_f]
[name_u]Peace[/name_u]
[name_m]Jefferson[/name_m]
[name_f]Bertha[/name_f]
[name_f]Sibyl[/name_f]
Lueinda (I wonder if this should be [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u]
[name_u]Ivory[/name_u] Q. (I wonder what the Q stands for?)
[name_f]Lovisa[/name_f]
[name_m]Alvin[/name_m]
[name_f]Keziah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_m]Chester[/name_m] Rhoades
Prudia (girl)
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m]
Sopha (Not [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]May[/name_f] be a typo or misread handwriting.)
I quite like some of these! [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u], [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. I love the mix of diminutives and super formal names on the list.
A little surprised by [name_u]Royal[/name_u] and [name_m]Prince[/name_m]. And Greenlief! So very Legolas.
[name_u]Alvah[/name_u] (I know a girl with this name except she’s Irish and spelled [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u], still pronounced [name_u]Alva[/name_u] though)
[name_f]Lovisa[/name_f] (intriguing)
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Angeline[/name_f] (more elegant than [name_f]Angelina[/name_f])
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (have loved this one for awhile!)
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Hettie[/name_f])
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Estie[/name_f])
[name_f]Maryetta[/name_f] & Maryenda (these remind me of a fav of mine - Marienna)
[name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], & [name_f]Louisa/name_f
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
Louena (one I hadn’t thought of that fits in with my “ending in -enna” obsession)
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
Everline & [name_f]Almira[/name_f] (these sound very modern!)
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_m]Jefferson[/name_m]
[name_m]Alvin[/name_m] (I actually have always loved this, but I fear the connection with the chipmunk)
[name_f]Keziah[/name_f] (im guessing this is a nn or derivative of a biblical name like [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m])
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] (love nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m])
[name_m]Thadeus[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Thad[/name_m])
[name_m]Moses[/name_m] (love this too, suprised its not more used)
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] (don’t really like [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] but love [name_m]Wes[/name_m])
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u])
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_u]Elisha[/name_u] (omg in love with this combo! nn [name_u]Wally[/name_u])
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u])
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] ( like this combo too)
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] (loooove!!)
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (classic!)
This was so fun, thanks for sharing! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this list
[name_u]Ray[/name_u] [name_m]Carlton[/name_m] and [name_u]Roy[/name_u] [name_m]Burton[/name_m]? [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Some of these names sound so modern… [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Inez[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Baxter[/name_m]. Shows how the trends have come back around!
Lucelia (I’m not usually a fan of [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u] names, but I love [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. I’ve never heard Lucelia before!)
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] (son)
