Names from Yesteryear

Oh that’s amazing! hahaha.

So many berries over the years that I miss and wish that could be here now - were you here for @rollo? So sad that there’s so many berries that will never have known her!

I have never chatted with [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] herself, but hearing her passing away was saddening. She had a great taste in names. :pensive:

She sure did! She was so lovely to be around, too.

There was a topic like this a handful of years ago that I enjoyed participating in! I don’t have any for this one off the top of my head, but may be back.

Leaving the old link here for fun/interests sake

SO many of these are on my lists!!! I absolutely adore [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], [name_f]Amparo[/name_f], Coppélia, [name_f]Hero[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Bertram[/name_m], [name_m]Corentin[/name_m], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Gable[/name_m], [name_m]Oleander[/name_m], and [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]!

[name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], [name_f]Clarimond[/name_f], [name_f]Eponine[/name_f], [name_f]Io[/name_f], [name_m]Crispin[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], [name_m]Prosper[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], and [name_m]Zephyr[/name_m] are ones that I haven’t considered but could see myself using in a combo now that they’re been brought to my attention!

This is stunning and a very [name_f]Berry[/name_f] combo  and I so agree [name_f]Rosamel[/name_f] is gorgeous !!

This sibset is also amazing!!! I’m not surprised you still remember it after all this time

Thank you so much for sharing and for all your input :white_heart::star:

Oh yes, the Sonnet/Poet/Story phase! lol

Agree with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and the [name_f]Cora[/name_f] family (Cora, [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], Cordelia) - used to be EVERYWHERE. And the Wildflower/Alpenglow/Evenstar type middles. I liked a few of them but it was a THING lol.

And [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Wren[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. They’re still more or less popular, but not as rampant as they used to be! I feel like EVERYONE used to love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] or [name_f]Clea[/name_f].

Forgot to list what I would love to see others use but probably won’t use for myself :two_hearts:

[name_f]Amparo[/name_f] (love this for [name_m]Night[/name_m] @/leafygreens! but idk if this name was ever popularly used by other berries. I only remember [name_m]Night[/name_m] using it consistently)
[name_f]Clarimond[/name_f] (would actually love to see this on a boy as well)
[name_f]Hero[/name_f] (I preferred [name_m]Hiro[/name_m] but I remember a teenberry or 2 back in 2020 liked using [name_f]Hero[/name_f]. I want to say one of them was @/EJpuddlejumper )
[name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosamel[/name_f]
[name_f]Aubrey[/name_f] (b)
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Calix[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Jove[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxence[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (I had liked [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] bc I was into nature names and had read a book about the falcon before I decided I actually didn’t care for the sound, just the imagery)
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Zephyr[/name_m] (I had liked [name_m]Zephyr[/name_m] in the past but then realized I actually didn’t really care for the sound. I was kind of making myself like it because of greek & roman mythology nostalgia and wanting to love anything mythology related. I still like [name_f]Zephyrine[/name_f] well enough and like to see others use Zephyr)

Ohh ok, that makes sense

I only remember seeing @rosepip loving this name. Not sure where else you saw the name. I like the name too but I’ve never actually used it

Oh I helped with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and the [name_f]Cora[/name_f] family and still use them in my combos haha! Hadn’t been on nb much for awhile to keep those names active ig lol

For those nature middles, I remember seeing them everywhere in ~2020 when ig everyone, especially teens, were just sitting around at home bc of covid. I think I usually saw them in teenberries’ profiles (I remember @/dogs_books was one of the people who like to use them like Bluebird, [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f], Stargazer, Sunflower) before a lot of them eventually moved on to classic and cottagecore names or just stopped being on nb much. I loved so many of those nature middles! Gave me such beautiful imagery! Also always wanted to compliment them and did try to in the “names that make you go Wow” thread when I could find them. Eventually realized that I was often imagining them as last names on a fictional character rather than as a middle name though. Maybe I’ll create a new last name for the kids like [name_m]Rosewood[/name_m] or [name_f]Wildrose[/name_f] or something lol but also there are a lot of other names I like and I think I prefer to choose a name that has a nature meaning instead of word names even though the word names usually gave better imagery but I’m still open to some of them

I’ve also been on Nameberry for longer than you, I got here back in like 2010 or 2011… so some of these are going back to around the time I got here!

Re: [name_f]Hero[/name_f] - @katinka had [name_f]Hero[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] on her list years and years ago (before she had [name_m]Kit[/name_m] and Anouk!) and that combo will forever live rent-free in my head. So gorgeous. I wish [name_f]Hero[/name_f] felt less pompous/heroic to the average person because I would love to use it.

There were definitely multiple berries who had this name on their list! I don’t remember who all at this point, most of them are probably gone… but I remember it definitely being a thing.

hahaha I mean, I think I helped with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] too, everyone loved him! I liked [name_f]Cora[/name_f] but basically gave up on her because I’ve met at least 6 Coras (or [name_f]Kora[/name_f], [name_f]Korah[/name_f], etc.) here and had a coworker who would’ve used [name_f]Cora[/name_f] if she’d had a girl instead of a boy. She seems to have died down now, I would be happy for her to come back around lol. I do still really like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]!

I would maybe use a couple of them, I still like [name_m]Asa[/name_m] Stargazer and I like Sunshine/Sunflower in certain combos, same with [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f]. I’m much more leery about using them than uncommon traditional names, though!

Ahh I still love that combo too :star_struck: I think, like you, I have come to the conclusion that [name_f]Hero[/name_f] has a different feel to most people than to me and I probably wouldn’t use it for that reason, but it’s so fabulous. I’m glad there are other [name_f]Hero[/name_f] appreciators out there!

Maybe one day [name_f]Hero[/name_f] will feel different for the general public! I would love to use something like [name_f]Hero[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], but I feel like at this point, if anything I’d do like [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] [name_f]Hero[/name_f] ______ or something along those lines. I love [name_f]Hero[/name_f] for you, too, she would’ve been a perfect sister for your kiddos.

[name_f]Hero[/name_f] in the middle is a great compromise, although I do love [name_f]Hero[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]!

Good to see some of my other favourites on your golden oldies list too — [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] is my current top ‘if only’ boy name :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Aww he would be perfect with [name_m]Kit[/name_m]! I do miss [name_m]Alban[/name_m] and [name_f]Sasha[/name_f], though—I always loved those with your kiddos :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I do have a little #4 Sasha! He will be three next week

:open_mouth::open_mouth: how did I miss this? He’s adorable and I’m so glad you got to use [name_f]Sasha[/name_f]! (What middle name did you end up using?)

If I were naming a little girl with the yesteryear names, I’d be inclined to look at Clarimond, Bronwen, Hero, Illyria, and Maud(e). None of these names, of which, are on my short/medium lists, but all are on the long list and extra long list.
If I were naming a little boy with the yesteryear names, I’d look at Alistair, Barnaby, Fox, Harvey, Ignatius, Oslo, Percy, Peregrine, and Rupert. All of these names are on my short/medium lists, apart from Oslo and Percy who still follow close behind.
