I spent the best bit of an hour scouring international, unusual and uncommon lists on Nameberry for some gems I wouldn’t otherwise consider because they don’t fit my favourite names. What are your thoughts on the following names?
P.S. I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] if it helps.
Girls (the first 3 I have considered before):
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]
[name_f]Adora[/name_f]
[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mahala[/name_f] (I pr. this ma-HAR-la)
[name_f]Amaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anoushka[/name_f]
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Maija[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaija[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]
Girls:
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]- I like this way more than [name_f]Ava[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f], although it’s something I like seeing on other people’s kids and wouldn’t consider for one of my own
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]- I love this! Wish it would work better in the U.S., but I bet it would work in [name_f]England[/name_f]
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]- another one that I like, but more on other people’s kids
[name_f]Adora[/name_f]- it has a pretty sound and reminds me of [name_f]Eudora[/name_f], which I think is gorgeous
[name_f]Rafaela[/name_f]- I used to find this too over the top, but now I’m starting to find it very classy
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]- I really want to like this, especially since [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is getting so common, but the “eel” sound throws me off. I’d love to meet one though
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]- I love this pronounced cass-ee-uh but when it’s pronounced cash-uh, I think it sounds a bit tacky. The other pronunciation reminds me of a princess
[name_f]Mahala[/name_f]- I really like this. It reminds me of [name_f]Malala[/name_f] who I think is just pure awesomeness.
[name_f]Amaia[/name_f]- this is one I’ve been looking at lately too! I took a baby name quiz that gave me this name in my result, and it’s growing on me.
[name_f]Anoushka[/name_f]- this honestly reminds me of the Mishka Mooshka [name_u]Mickey[/name_u] Mouse! thing they do at the end of [name_u]Mickey[/name_u] Mouse Clubhouse.
[name_f]Katya[/name_f]- I’ve always found this name very pretty, although I don’t like the nickname [name_f]Katie[/name_f] so I wouldn’t use it.
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]- I’ve had a soft spot for this name for years. There was a girl on my soccer team back in like 2nd grade named [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] and I always thought she had the coolest name.
[name_f]Maija[/name_f]- I think I prefer [name_f]Maia[/name_f], but I love Js in the middle of names. I think it looks so fun and exotic
[name_f]Kaija[/name_f]- again, I prefer [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], but the J…
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f]- I love this spelling the most. I think it looks so pretty, but my friend said she’d say it lil-juh so I’m not sure if it’s usable in the U.S. Maybe you’d have better luck in [name_f]England[/name_f].
Boys:
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m]- this is cool, but I’m not sure it I could see it working on a real boy.
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m]- I’ve been loving [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] recently. This is definitely cool as well
[name_m]Odion[/name_m]- it has a nice sound, and definitely fits with many name trends.
[name_m]Aurelius[/name_m]- again, this is a really badass and awesome name, but I’m not sure how well it would work. I think it might work better than [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] but I think I’d have to meet one to be sure
[name_m]Marcellus[/name_m]- I know a kid named [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] who really makes his name look good, so I think this one is great too.
[name_m]Killian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]- I used to dislike this but it’s growing on me. There’s the cutest boy at my sister’s school named [name_m]Killian[/name_m] and he wears it really well (also has a sister name [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]- swoon!)
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]- I love [name_m]Matteo[/name_m]! It sounds fresh and fun
My daughter’s name, [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] (or [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]). I am yet to meet someone else with this name. We got it out of [name_u]Milan[/name_u] Kundera’s book, Unbearable Lightness of Being.
