I have always loved [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland and would love to find a name as an ode to the story. Other than [name_f]Alice[/name_f] though, I am mostly coming up blank. Does anyone have any ideas that are inspired by the story or are from the story? Boy or girl names too.
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (because of the author, [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]), [name_f]Carole[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (the author’s original name was [name_m]Charles[/name_m]), [name_f]Alice[/name_f]'s sisters were Lorina and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], also beautiful names.
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Cat[/name_f] because of the Cheshire [name_f]Cat[/name_f]), [name_m]Hart[/name_m], [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] ([name_u]Jessie[/name_u] Willcox [name_m]Smith[/name_m] was the illustrator)… That’s all I can think of. I think any Victorian-era name, that represents freedom from that repressive society (especially when it comes to women), would be excellent… [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] (after [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] Woolfe), would be great. Her first name was actually [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] (obviously)
[name_f]Alicen[/name_f]
[name_m]Chester[/name_m]
Cheesy
[name_f]Cat[/name_f]
(inspired by the cheshire cat)
[name_u]Arley[/name_u] (it means from the rabbit meadow)
[name_f]Raina[/name_f] (it means queen, kinda like the queen of hearts? It’s a stretch I know)
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] (after the mad hatter)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Pansy[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Daffodil[/name_f] (when she is watching the roses and other flowers sing)
I hope this helps! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland
[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] Wilcox [name_m]Smith[/name_m] may have illustrated one version but the internet is claiming [name_m]John[/name_m] Tenniel was the illustrator of the first edition, so [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or Tenniel or Tenille all are opened up.
From Painting the Roses [name_u]Red[/name_u], I think of [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
The Wikipedia page is full of ideas, (that’s where I got [name_m]John[/name_m] Tenniel from).
My favourites so far are definitely [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Raina[/name_f]. I suppose you could also use a red colour for the name of the queen - [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] etc. or for the white queen Bianca.
Here are some of my unusual additions:
Dormouse - [name_f]Mosley[/name_f]
Tortoise - [name_m]Kobe[/name_m]
Lizard - [name_m]Bill[/name_m]
Kitten of [name_f]Dinah[/name_f]'s - [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f]
[Bread and] Butterflies - [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] or [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]
[name_m]Gryphon[/name_m] - [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
The [name_f]Lory[/name_f] - [name_f]Loretta[/name_f]/[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] etc.
[name_u]March[/name_u] Hare - [name_u]March[/name_u], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_m]Manly[/name_m]
White Rabbit - [name_u]Arley[/name_u], [name_m]Arledge[/name_m]
The Eaglet - [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_f]Peta[/name_f], [name_f]Arnelle[/name_f], [name_m]Arnold[/name_m]
The Sheep - [name_f]Ovidia[/name_f], [name_f]Merona[/name_f], [name_m]Farley[/name_m],
Cards - [name_m]Ace[/name_m], [name_f]Diamond[/name_f] or the more unusual Spade
One that I just thought of was [name_f]Celia[/name_f], which is a re-arrangement of [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. In the Wikipedia you’ll read that [name_u]Caroll[/name_u] made use of the re-arrangement [name_f]Lacie[/name_f], so there’s tradition to this.
[name_u]Carroll[/name_u]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
Lorina (the real [name_f]Alice[/name_f]'s sisters)
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f] (mentioned above but so nice it bears repeating!)
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]
A name from the same root as [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. My favorites:
Aleida
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Ailis[/name_f]
[name_f]Alena[/name_f]
[name_f]Aliz[/name_f]
I have always thought of this quote and these names when trying to decide on a name for my own daughter; however, the photographer we often choose for family pictures is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and though she is lovely, I can only think of that name belonging to her now… It always was on my short list for baby names. Good luck!
"Once upon a time there were three little sisters,’ the Dormouse began in a great hurry; `and their names were [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lacie[/name_f], and [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]; and they lived at the bottom of a well–’ "
•Maddeus- For the mad hatter
•[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]- Has the word “red” in it, symbolizing the red roses
•[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
•[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]- [name_f]Alice[/name_f]'s sister
