Names I've been considering - Updated

My daughter, [name]Gwendolyn[/name], turns 2 this week. I’ve been thinking lately about what we might name another baby if it is a girl. I didn’t know about Nameberry when I was pregnant, and I have a lot of new favorite names since I’ve been visiting. What do you think about each of the following individually and with big sister [name]Gwendolyn[/name]? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Since I’m not expecting right now, I’m really interested in what your impression of each name is. I’m open to other ideas, but the name can’t start with E, O, B or H.

[name]Adele[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. I think in it’s full form it’s so pretty and feminine. I’m not a big fan of nn [name]Addy[/name] though. I think it goes nicely with [name]Gwendolyn[/name].

[name]Ramona[/name] - I’m not always a fan of this name, but I think with [name]Gwendolyn[/name] it works really well. They both have a quirky vintageness about them that go really well. I actually have a great Aunt [name]Ramona[/name], when she was growing up they called her [name]Ro[/name], which is a cute nn.

[name]Danica[/name] - This name feels very different than [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. It’s more tomboyish to me, whereas [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is much more feminine.

[name]Dorothy[/name]- has the perfect vintageness to go with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. Another favorite of mine.

[name]Tabitha[/name] - a great vintage name with a spunky vibe. I’ve started to really like this name. Different from [name]Gwendolyn[/name] I think, but it works.

Some others you might like:

hope that’s helpful!

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Gwen[/name]'s mom!

[name]Adele[/name]-I love [name]Adele[/name], but it’s a bit short next to [name]Gwendolyn[/name].

[name]Ramona[/name]- I like [name]Ramona[/name], but not the “moan” sound in it. It reminds me of [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Quimby[/name], which is a good association, too. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Ramona[/name] sound great together!

[name]Danica[/name]- I love [name]Danica[/name], especially with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. However, it kind of reminds me of the dated [name]Danielle[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name].

[name]Dorothy[/name]- I love [name]Dorothy[/name]! [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Dorothy[/name] sound so spunky to me.

[name]Tabitha[/name]- I love [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Tabitha[/name] together!

I really, really like so many of these! Personally, I see vintage and retro names with [name]Gwendolyn[/name].

Thanks for the comments and ideas so far! I like a lot of them but these would be possibilities:
[name]Adelaide[/name] - like [name]Adele[/name] but better matches the length of [name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Leona[/name] - do people say both lee-ona and lay-ona?
[name]Matilda[/name] - my absolute favorite children’s book character!
[name]Penelope[/name] - I like it a lot - would you worry about a [name]Gwen[/name] and [name]Penn[/name] rhyme?

[name]Love[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name], so very much! So sophisticated and pretty, yet subtle and sweet…

I think [name]Ramona[/name] is the only one I’d pair with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. The others - [name]Tabitha[/name], especially - feel too vintage and, to be honest, a bit “dusty” in comparison to the sparkly [name]Gwendolyn[/name]! Here are more ideas for you:

[name]Beatrix[/name] - Sorry, B name!
[name]Helena[/name] - [name]Edit[/name]: This is out, isn’t it?
[name]Hermione[/name] - Oh, H!

Sorry, a short list today!

[name]Lemon[/name]

For [name]Leona[/name], I say [name]Lee[/name]-own-uh. L”onie would be [name]LAY[/name]-own-ee.

If [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] went by [name]Gwen[/name] and [name]Penn[/name] all the time, then it might worry me. Otherwise, I think it’s fine.

[name]How[/name] about:

[name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] and Rosslyn
[name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Esme[/name]

here are some other name suggestions

[name]Adelaide[/name] - if you [name]DO[/name] NOT use nn [name]Addie[/name] then i like it.
[name]Leona[/name] - lee-on-ah its just ok doesnt have the wow factor of gwendolyn
[name]Matilda[/name] - its just getting too pop
[name]Meredith[/name]- never liked this name seems too 1990’s
[name]Marlena[/name]- its ok
[name]Penelope[/name] - what nn will you use? nell, poppy, penny? as long as the nn isnt [name]PEN[/name] i dont see a matching problem.

[name]Adele[/name]- just ok
[name]Ramona[/name]- seems like a boys name
[name]Danica[/name]- i dont like it
[name]Dorothy[/name]- very nice with [name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name] [name]LOVE[/name]

That’s exactly how I think of [name]Gwendolyn[/name] too! - and I’m having a hard time finding a name for a sister that doesn’t sound “dusty” in comparison - I know exactly what you mean. I’m glad you like [name]Ramona[/name] - or is it just the best of my list so far? [name]Fiona[/name] is a definite possibility except we have a fairly scandinavian last name and I wonder about the pure Irish-ness of [name]Fiona[/name]. While [name]Gwendolyn[/name] in Welsh I don’t think many people (other than nameberryites and similar) know that. Other ideas?

I love the name [name]Tabitha[/name] with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. I don’t find it dusty at all.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] too!

Good luck!

OK, revised list for a sister to [name]Gwendolyn[/name]:

[name]Fiona[/name]! [name]Fiona[/name]! [name]Fiona[/name]! Hands down, [name]Fiona[/name]! [name]Love[/name] her! And, she’s perfect with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. Honestly, I don’t think people other than Berries see Scottish when they hear [name]Fiona[/name], just like they don’t see Welsh when they hear [name]Gwendolyn[/name]…

I like [name]Fiona[/name] because it is whimsical, feminine, and sassy, just like [name]Gwendolyn[/name]! I guess you could say [name]Sabrina[/name] has the same feel, but it reminds me of [name]Sabrina[/name] the Teenage Witch - it also sounds a bit snobby to me. [name]Danica[/name] reminds me of [name]Danica[/name] [name]Patrick[/name], who is pretty awesome and all, but I don’t see feminine, classic, and elegant when I look at [name]Danica[/name]. Is it just me, or does [name]Lorelei[/name] feel slightly dated in comparison to your other names? I don’t know. [name]Teagan[/name], a name I love, seems too unisex to match with the subtle feminine charm of [name]Gwendolyn[/name], and [name]Phoebe[/name], another love of mine, seems more suitable for a middle name. The Greek-ness of it seems to clash a bit with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. But, you must like the F/PH sound, because you’ve got two names on your list with such a sound (i.e., [name]Fiona[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]). Maybe I’m just heavily biased in favor of [name]Fiona[/name]!

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Adele[/name]- This is a very pretty name and works with [name]Gwendolen[/name], you might also consider [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]- It’s pretty
[name]Danica[/name]- Seems dated too me, don’t know why though
[name]Dorothy[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this and it could work with [name]Gwendolen[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]- Cute and works with [name]Gwendolen[/name]

Some other suggestions

I love [name]Fiona[/name] too! I can’t believe I left it off my first list (and I don’t even have pregnancy brain to blame :stuck_out_tongue: ). To be honest, I don’t think I can get DH on board with [name]Sabrina[/name] (because of the Teenage Witch issue) or [name]Phoebe[/name] (he doesn’t think it ages well). So I’ll probably have to let them go. He really likes [name]Danica[/name], and I do too, but I really don’t want everyone’s first association to be [name]Danica[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]. I kind of like that when I introduce [name]Gwendolyn[/name], everyone recognizes the name but very, very few people know another person named [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. Maybe [name]Fiona[/name] would be similar, or [name]Lorelei[/name]. I’ve only ever known one person irl named [name]Lorelei[/name] so I don’t find it dated, but maybe I’m wrong. The other thing I like about [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is that everyone knows how to spell it when heard and pronounce it when read. [name]Fiona[/name] would definitely fit that; [name]Lorelei[/name] maybe not as much. Also the many nicknames that we interchange: [name]Gwen[/name], [name]Gwennie[/name], Miss G, Gwendo (DH’s favorite). [name]Lorelei[/name] wouldn’t give us many - [name]Lore[/name], [name]Lora[/name], Lo maybe but I don’t find these as cute. Fi, [name]Fifi[/name] (just within the family - I can imagine my mother cringeing: “[name]Aren[/name]'t we supposed to [name]LOVE[/name] this baby?!?!”), [name]Fio[/name] (I predict DH’s favorite).

I’m really leaning toward [name]Fiona[/name]!

Other thoughts or suggestions are still welcome though

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]! And it’s great with [name]Gwendolyn[/name]!
