I came across the name Abihu while reading the Bible yesterday, and I thought I really liked it! Except I realized I was pronouncing it wrong- I thought it was more like “Uh-BYE-you,” which is how I’ve always heard it. But, I believe it’s really pronounced either “Ah-BEE-who” or Uh-BYE-who.” Second, the biblical connotation isn’t the best for Abihu.
So, now I’m wondering if there are any other names that have a similar sound to “Uh-BYE-you?” I have found Abiah and Abishai so far. Please share any others that you may know of. They don’t necessarily have to be biblical. Thanks in advance!
I would say ah-BYE-hugh if it makes you feel any better… but I grew up in a pocket of Christianity where [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] is ee FREE yum, so take that with a grain of salt
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_m]Elihu[/name_m], which I love as an unusual replacement to [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], or maybe [name_m]Abner[/name_m]? [name_m]Abishai[/name_m]? [name_m]Abram[/name_m]? [name_f]Ari[/name_f], [name_m]Abidan[/name_m], [name_m]Abiel[/name_m], [name_m]Adriel[/name_m], [name_f]Abital[/name_f]? [name_f]Abbott[/name_f] maybe but it doesn’t have the same Biblical appeal.
I think I like Elihu! I’m starting to love Abishai, especially since I’m seeing it spelled with a “v” Avishai. I really like the “Ah-vee-shy” pronunciation. nn Avi (ah-vee). Goes so perfectly with my recent love of Javier and softer Ha- names. So many beautiful names out there off the beaten path!
