Names like Henry

We love the name [name]Henry[/name] and would probably be seriously considering it for #2 except we’ve already used it as our first son’s middle name.

(We have, in moments of extreme name frustration, joked about changing his name and stealing it for this baby.)

I love [name]Henry[/name] because while it feels like it has a history, it’s also hip and modern enough for our family. And although it’s definitely on the more popular end of names I would consider, it’s not become overly common.

So, any other name ideas that are “like” [name]Henry[/name]? I admit I also like that it ends in the hard E sound.

[name]Charlie[/name] is another that I like, but I don’t like [name]Charles[/name], and it’s probably a bit TOO popular for my taste.

[name]Edward[/name] is the first name that comes to mind. There is also - [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Franklin[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Jonathan[/name], [name]William[/name].

ooh I love [name]Henry[/name]! I would avoid stealing it though, that might cause issues between brothers!

Names that remind me of [name]Henry[/name]:

[name]Henry[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] both have a classic, almost royal, feel to them (aka, you can place “[name]King[/name]” or “[name]Prince[/name]” before the name and it sounds right- [name]King[/name] [name]Henry[/name], yes, [name]Prince[/name] [name]Aiden[/name]… not so much). [name]William[/name] definitely comes to mind, though it’s probably too popular at #2? Other classic but common names that come to mind are [name]Edward[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]John[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Robert[/name]. Less common options:

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

Hmmm, names like [name]Henry[/name]…

This is funny because I have a [name]Charlie[/name] and I’m strongly considering [name]Henry[/name] for the second. Neither of us were big fans of [name]Charles[/name] either, but we’re both really surprised at how we’ve warmed to it. He’s [name]Charlie[/name] 95% of the time, but sometimes [name]Charles[/name] just fits, especially when he’s doing something particularly impressive or annoying. Now I love pulling out the “[name]Charles[/name]!!!” and I thought I would never ever use it.

I also love how both names end in a hard E…I’m an unstoppable nicknamer, and I don’t want to end up with a [name]Maxy[/name] or a Jamesey.

In the [name]Henry[/name] camp, I have considered using [name]Charlotte[/name] as a MN for a girl to name her after her brother! Maybe [name]Henry[/name] can be named with his big brother in mind. I think it’s a sweet sentiment. In the grand scheme, is it such a huge issue have have them share a middle/first name?

[name]Edward[/name] is too twilight craze for me and I don’t love any of the others. There is just something about [name]Henry[/name]…

I like both [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Ellery[/name] but to me they are both girls’ names. The girls are taking all the good ones! Hrmph.

I like [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Julian[/name] but not enough to use them. Thank you for so many good suggestions though! I am realizing I am terribly picky.

[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Owen[/name] were my first thoughts. [name]Warren[/name] is also nice, though it doesn’t feel as stately as [name]Henry[/name]. I also love [name]Harvey[/name]”so underused.

What is your first son’s first name?

[name]Albert[/name] ([name]Bertie[/name])
[name]Alfred[/name] ([name]Alfie[/name] /[name]Freddy[/name] )
[name]Benjamin[/name] ( [name]Benjy[/name])
[name]Bernard[/name] ( [name]Bernie[/name])
[name]Ernest[/name] ([name]Ernie[/name])
[name]Frederick[/name] ([name]Freddy[/name])

First son is [name]Dashiell[/name]

OK, I think I just posted to your other thread. [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is awesome. And I have to say, while I love [name]Henry[/name] as a first name, it wouldn’t be my first pick as a sib for [name]Dashiell[/name]. I think [name]August[/name], Truett, and [name]Griffin[/name] are fabulous w/ [name]Dashiell[/name]. But let me see if I can think of some more…

Any of those appeal to you? [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is a tough act to follow!

I thought of [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Edward[/name] nickname [name]Teddy[/name] right away! [name]Teddy[/name] and [name]Dash[/name] go great together!

Another one of my favorites is [name]Oliver[/name], nickname [name]Ollie[/name].

I take back my previous thought… [name]Even[/name] though you have a Dashiel [name]Henry[/name] it would be totally okay to use [name]Henry[/name] again for your next child because how many times would he introduce himself as Dashiel [name]Henry[/name]?

[name]Henry[/name] is such a handsome and strong name, don’t pass up the opportunity to use it! My son is [name]Theodore[/name] which I think is a sturdy and strong name, and if I had used it as a middle name I would use it again as a first name!

Ok since someone else suggested it, can I second [name]Timothy[/name]? You probably didn’t even think twice about it, but it’s got potential, I swear! [name]Tim[/name]/[name]Timmy[/name] could be soo cute! I also second [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name]. And my favorite is [name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Freddy[/name]. I love that with [name]Dashiell[/name], but my husband would never go for it.

[name]Do[/name] you call [name]Dashiell[/name] by his full name? I think [name]Dashiell[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] go great together, but not so much [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Henry[/name], don’t know why.

As for [name]Henry[/name] being his middle name… Hmmm. If I used [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a middle name, and then I used up the rest of the names I love, i would use it again as a first name. I’ve actually heard of a lot of people doing that. It is a little odd, though. But seriously? If you don’t find another name that you love, you gotta do what you gotta do! But for what it’s worth, I’m hoping you use [name]August[/name]!

[name]Edward[/name] is the closest to [name]Henry[/name] for me, with regards to kingly names that sort of have the zeitgeist going for them right now. I think calling him [name]Ned[/name] reduces the Twilight association, and [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Ned[/name] would be a great set!

Please don’t dismiss [name]Avery[/name] as a girl’s name. [name]Avery[/name] is historically a boy’s name and it is time to reclaim it! My 7 year old son is named [name]Avery[/name]. I picked that name out when I was a teenager and at that time no one was associating it with girls. All the Averys that I personally knew or that friends knew or were related to were men. [name]Don[/name]'t forget that [name]Fern[/name]'s brother in “[name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name]” was [name]Avery[/name] or the antagonist in “The Firm” was [name]Avery[/name]. It is a beautiful name and in my opinion very masculine sounding!

I love [name]Henry[/name]. I also love [name]Walter[/name], [name]Edwin[/name] and [name]Frank[/name].

I thought of [name]Asa[/name] for you today. [name]Dashiell[/name] and [name]Asa[/name] sound so cool together! It’s pronounce [name]Ace[/name]-uh. The difference in length looks a little wonky, but aloud i think they are awesome together when said in full!
