I love the Finnish name [name_f]Lumi[/name_f] (meaning “snow”), and I’ve just seen [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] (“summer”) suggested on another thread, which is beautiful! My daughter also has a little friend called Zari, which is apparently an Arabic flower name or a Slavic name meaning “dawn”.
Looking for other suggestions along the same lines: short, sweet and lively (I like the -i ending), with a beautiful meaning as a bonus!
[name_f]Calina[/name_f] - Spanish for ‘haze’
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] - [name_m]French[/name_m] for ‘sun’
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] - Spanish for ‘sight’
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - Italian for ‘moon’
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f] - [name_m]French[/name_m] for ‘flower’
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Lumi[/name_f]! The first thing that springs to mind is [name_f]Juni[/name_f], although you already have a [name_f]Juno[/name_f] so it won’t be right for you.
Thanks! I love [name_f]Siri[/name_f] (not sure how usable it is, though…) and [name_f]Clio[/name_f] especially. I love [name_f]Juni[/name_f] too but yeah, can’t do that for obvious reasons!
@grackym Thank you! I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and really like several of your other suggestions too
Be warned; while I believe they are all used as names in Finland, the meanings of some of them are very literal in Finnish. Impi is the Finnish vocabulary word for a maiden/virgin, Pilvi for a cloud, et cetera.
@alaskasuka What gorgeous names your girls have - bold but simple, and they’re wonderful together. I do really like [name_u]Nori[/name_u] too but the seaweed connection bothers me a little bit! Such a shame because it’s a beautiful name - a more exotic cousin to [name_f]Nora[/name_f].
@anothersunnyday Thank you for two lovely lists! I like them all, but [name_f]Sari[/name_f], [name_f]Nomi[/name_f], [name_f]Rumi[/name_f] and [name_u]Zuri[/name_u] especially appeal.
@lovemysweeties [name_u]Ori[/name_u] is so bright and sweet!
@luneth [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_f]Ffion[/name_f] - thanks! And I actually know a [name_f]Hebe[/name_f]
@impwood Thank you! I love Finnish names too, even though I’m still discovering them. I love [name_f]Anni[/name_f], Eevi and Impi especially from your list (Impi - how cute is that?!) Isn’t Elvi also a Finnish name? You just reminded me of it, so sweet!
Here’s a few of my favorite Finnish nature names for girls:
Aamu (morning)
[name_f]Sade[/name_f] (rain)
Selja (elderflower)
Vadelma (rasberry)
Aava (open sea)
I also have a little goddaughter back in Finland. She is called Pilvi and her sister is Elvi. I think both of them are very cute names!
[name_f]Siri[/name_f] is my sister’s name, it’s so sweet, but sadly not so usable. [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] and [name_f]Siri[/name_f] reminds me of Sini, a Finnish name meaning ‘blue’. [name_f]Kirsi[/name_f] is another Finnish name, means ‘frost’ although [name_f]Kirsikka[/name_f] means ‘cherry’.
I think a lot of Japanese names have the feel you’re looking for:
[name_f]Chiyo[/name_f]
Kazue
Mayu
[name_f]Michi[/name_f]
[name_u]Mio[/name_u]
Sayuri
[name_f]Sora[/name_f]
[name_u]Yuki[/name_u]
Yumi
