Names like Meredith?

I like the name [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], but we already have a kid with an M name and I’m trying not to repeat initials. Our girl is named M1riam. Apart from the M- start (which I love in a girl’s name), I like the -dith/-ith ending. Any suggestions for names with the same/similar endings? Other initials that are off the table: A, B, D, L, R, S.

Thanks!

My first thought is Edith (Meredith without the Mer!).

Other suggestions:

Gwyneth
Judith
Elizabeth
Faith
Lilith

Maybe you could use; Eilith, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] or [name_f]Judith[/name_f]? Names ending with -ith are so hard to find :frowning:

I’m on the fence about [name_f]Edith[/name_f]; it should be the perfect solution, but it just doesn’t grab me.

I like [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. Is it too tied to [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow? She’s the only one I’ve heard of [name_m]IRL[/name_m].

Eilith is interesting. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it EYE-lith or EE-lith?

What about Ferelith?

Eilith is pronounced EE-lith and it’s a variant of Ailith but you said no A’s. I don’t think [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is too tied to [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow at all by the way, and I’ve also found the names; [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], Aldith and [name_f]Vardith[/name_f].

Merewen? Some of the others I’m thinking of would be a nightmare in English: Blodeuwedd, Goleuddydd, etc.

Ferelith
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_u]Leith[/name_u]
[name_f]Neith[/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] some ‘ith’ ending names… trying to avoid repeats

Cherith
Ranith
[name_f]Yudith[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Tuilelaith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

Like others my first thought was [name_f]Edith[/name_f], after oooh I love [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]!!

Suggestions:
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Judith[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Judith[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Faith[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] ~ [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] & [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]

: )

Thanks everyone! I like the sounds of Ferelith and [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] would be the name dh and I would be most likely to agree on. I’m not usually fond of one-syllable names, but I like [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] as a nickname.

Although I’m still considering abandoning my no repeat first initials rule and going for [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]!

If you like it that much, it might be worth abandoning the no repeat initials rule. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are similar, but not confusingly close, so it’s not a huge deal to have them as sisters. It’s certainly better than abandoning a name you love in favor of one you don’t like as much!
A lot of people have been suggesting sound-alikes, but you might be looking more for a style. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] (and even [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]) have a style- they’re both strong, not traditionally feminine sounding, and familiar but unusual. Some other names I think may fit that profile:
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_u]Damaris[/name_u]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Arianwen[/name_f] / [name_f]Arianell[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f] / [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]
