My daughter is a week and a half old and prior to birth I had planned on naming her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], until I realized it has recently become EXTREMELY popular. this name fits her perfectly, but if possible I’d rather give her something that hasn’t become soo popularized. names that make my list include [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f], and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] as firsts. They are all very cute, but none of them sit quite right… not like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
Does anyone have ANY other name suggestions along these lines ??
HELP !
I would just use [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] if the name fit her perfectly especially if you had your heart set on it, but I think you have a legitimate concern.
As for name suggestions… maybe a rarer name related to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] like [name_f]Adela[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] which are not on the top 1000 list?
or even just keep [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and nickname her [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_f]Adela[/name_f]?
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is actually Alot more popular than [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] so I don’t understand why that is an alternative?
Agreed with above! I would just name her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]!
My daughter is almost 3 and an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but we call her [name_f]Addy[/name_f]. I [name_m]JUST[/name_m] met someone with another [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], but it’s taken this long. She told me that she had never met another before either. I get a lot of compliments on her name because it’s not super popular.
I actually wanted to name my daughter [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but my husband pushed for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. When he first held her I knew that should be her name. Although I did go through some name regret (not choosing the name I wanted), I have absolutely no doubts today. While we choose a common nickname, I think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] is adorable. I would say don’t worry about it being too popular, go with what you love! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps and congrats on your new baby girl!
P.S. I’m currently pregnant with #3 and am trying to figure out what name I like best with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] if it is another girl. I have [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] on my list - a few other possible suggestions for you.
My fave nickname for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is Lady… but I know that one is a hit or miss name as due to that lovely Disney movie, some people view it as a dog name.
But I like the nickname as it is sweet and silly at the same time, especially as she has a longer name to go with it.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] variation like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelie[/name_f], [name_f]Adelia[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u]. But I would just name her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I’ve only ever met one [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], I don’t think the name is actually that popular. As long as you give her a unique nickname, then it’s nbd. [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_f]Addie[/name_f] are super cute nns!
Go with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! I have never met an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], so I don’t think it’s THAT popular. If popularity bothers/concerns you that much then check name popularity in your area.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Madalyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
I agree with the others–if [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is rabidly popular, I’d like to know how you feel about other names? I’ve never met an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]–or even someone (in real life) actually considering it. It’s a lovely name, and it’s still under the radar. To my knowledge, there isn’t even a famous namesake in the news/media/on TV/celebaby/etc. It’s a nice name–just go for it. If popularity is an issue, just avoid [name_f]Addy[/name_f] as a nn. There’s [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Adela[/name_f], Lady, [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Aida[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], etc. that could all be options. It’s a lovely name, and you said it yourself–nothing else seems to suit her like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. Sometimes popularity doesn’t matter in light of the perfect name.
Honestly, I’ve never met an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. Several [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Addison[/name_u] girls, but not one [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. So I’d just go with that if that’s what strikes your fancy. Other similar stylistic names:
Go with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! [name_f]Remember[/name_f], some names might seem super popular on Nameberry, but in real life [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] was ranked number 343 on the popularity charts last year. That is in between [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and across for the boys’ names [name_u]Leland[/name_u], [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Jett[/name_m]. I personally know 0 babies with any of these names. The popularity is nothing really.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is gorgeous! Stop worrying too much!
I would like to add that [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] was [name_m]WAY[/name_m] more popular than [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] last year. It was 200plus spots ahead at #125.
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] Heigl named her baby [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]… but in the news reports they said [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f] so I am not sure if it was a media typo or they spelt her name incorrectly.
I have to agree if you love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] then go for it. If you’re concerned with popularity then find a quirky unexpected NN that she can use when gets older to go by if there are too many [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]'s near by. I personally don’t think you’re going to have that issue because it is only in the 300’s if there is a big peak in the name it probably won’t be until she is a little older and then she won’t have to worry about being one of three [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]'s in a class.
I would use it. It’s not crazy popular. But maybe Aboline, [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u], [name_f]Appoline[/name_f], Adaia, [name_f]Adalie[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] or [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] would work for you?
Thank you ALL so much ! ! !
Several people mentioned that penelope was higher ranking that adelaide- that was noted before this post. penelope is out. I just like the name and was looking for other suggestions with a similar feel.
I do [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and nn’s adele and della.
I’ve just had reservations about it bc it jumped from somewhere in the 400’s to the 200’s since the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] become popular somewhere in the mid/late 2000’s, and it has been slowly steadily climbing the charts ever since. it makes me nervous bc my name was fairly rare ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f]) when I was younger, and now it is making the top 10…
One name that I’ve been playing with that Iis more rare is Zeliah (pronounced [name_m]Zel[/name_m] lee ah). I really like this name and it could fit her, though not as well as [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
There are also some very exclusive names that I have on reserve, that I love, but fear teasing.
One is Rememberance Song. I love this name. It is a name to embody the times. nn would be [name_u]Ember[/name_u] which Iis also very symbolic.
I wanted to know if this is just too far out to even be considered a name? Would you all agree that this name would render my daughter hopeless to “remember this and remember that” bullying?
Thank you ALL so much ! ! !

I do like the name [name_f]Appoline[/name_f], Tararyaz, but I think her nn would prob become apple with such a name. I do like your suggestions thank you !
ha! I had forgotten about that. So true, although I’m pretty sure I did forget because it was almost a year ago (yes?), and they did spell it [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] place I looked seemed to spell it [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f], so it just sort of didn’t register. I think that’s really done all the damage it’s going to, though–it’s not like [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], or [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u], that’s in the media all the time and is just this big joke.
