Names like.... Ruby, Moxie, Indie

We like 2 syllable spunky, no-frills, girls names. Names that end in “-ie” or “y” appeal to us, and sound best with our last name. So far we’ve thought of:

[name]Ruby[/name] (too popular in our area…sad!)
[name]Moxie[/name] (wouldn’t actually use this on a girl…better for our next cat)
[name]Indie[/name] (like this one but feels insufficient. Not liking any of the longer variations)
[name]Ivy[/name] (I like but DH doesn’t)
[name]Zoey[/name] (we were going to name our first this, but we had a boy. Now we know other zoeys so it’s unusable)

Please help! Due in 2 months and so indecisive!

Hmm, I like [name]Indie[/name] a lot and don’t think it is too insubstantial. I’ll try to think of some more you might like…

[name]Nellie[/name]
[name]Ginny[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Penny[/name]
[name]Holly[/name]
[name]Tory[/name]
[name]Kitty[/name] – although this would probably work better as short for [name]Catherine[/name] than as a full name… =)
[name]Hattie[/name]
[name]Carrie[/name]
[name]Lottie[/name] – again, better as a nickname
[name]Minnie[/name]
[name]Izzy[/name]
[name]Josie[/name]

I think mine might be a little more old/vintage than you are looking for, hope it still helped!

I would (selfishly) suggest a few from my favourites: [name]Sydney[/name] (nn [name]Sid[/name]), [name]Holly[/name], [name]Poppy[/name] & [name]Mardi[/name]. Also [name]Astrid[/name] (nn [name]Didi[/name]).

ps. I much prefer [name]Zoe[/name] than [name]Zoey[/name]

[name]Circe[/name], [name]Audrey[/name]… [name]Chloe[/name] is similar to [name]Zooey[/name]?

I’m jealous as hell - -ee ending first names sound not-great with our last, but I love so many.

I’m guessing [name]Lily[/name] is out due to popularity if [name]Ruby[/name] is. [name]Ruby[/name]/Z

[name]Tansy[/name] - A rare botanical with an interesting meaning.
[name]Callie[/name]
[name]Roxy[/name]/[name]Roxie[/name] - I still look for a long form for [name]Roxy[/name] that might work with our name.
[name]Xanthe[/name] - pr. zan-thee. I adore it. It sounds in keeping with modern names but is ancient. Much like [name]Zoe[/name], really.
[name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Amy[/name]
[name]Bettie[/name]/[name]Betty[/name]/[name]Bette[/name] - yes, vintage, but in a very rockabilly way. With the sharp t’s. I’m not nearly as keen on softer [name]Betsy[/name] or [name]Bessie[/name], though some Berries adore those.
[name]Phoebe[/name]

I think of [name]Roxanne[/name] for [name]Roxie[/name]

I really love [name]Indy[/name] (spelled this way) from your list. It could definitely work as a name and seems to fit your style perfectly.

Other suggestions:
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Penny[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Lanie[/name]

[name]Cally[/name]
[name]Thisbe[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Jamie[/name]
[name]Dory[/name]
[name]Teddy[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
Bindy

Thanks all! Really liking the suggestions of [name]Bette[/name] and [name]Sydney[/name]! [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Chloe[/name] are great names too… [name]Just[/name] worried about popularity. Keep them coming, please!

Also, do you think the [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Molly[/name] could pass as nicknames for [name]Amelie[/name]? They are not as spunky as the rest on our list, but we’ve been crushing on [name]Amelie[/name] since the movie came out 10 years ago, and I do think [name]Molly[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] are cute. They may be nationally popular names but I haven’t heard them around here. We live in an artsy college town saturated with hipsters so a lot of the fun, spunky names we love are common.

Also, thanks for the thoughts on [name]Indy[/name] as a standalone name. Can’t decide if I like the [name]Indy[/name] or [name]Indie[/name] spelling though.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Tessa[/name]? It doesn’t have the ie or y ending but I think it fits your other requirements.

off the top of my head:
[name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Mardi[/name] (means [name]Tuesday[/name] in French)

maybe [name]Mary[/name] or is that too plain? I think it’s cute and due for some revival lol
[name]Indie[/name] is an adorable name, a friend of mine was planning on naming her baby this is it was a girl butt she’s having a boy it could be used as a short form of [name]Lucinda[/name]
I love [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lotta[/name] but prefer it as a nickname for [name]Carlotta[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Cindy[/name]? again could be short for Luncinda

[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]

[name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]

[name]Josie[/name]
[name]Callie[/name]
[name]Carlie[/name]
[name]Dixie[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Kenzie[/name]
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Ansley[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Harley[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]

My favorite name out of these would be [name]Riley[/name]! Good luck!
