Names like Samuel?

So my SO gave me three names he likes. He is much more traditional in his taste than I am. He has a traditional name, and I have a foreign name and I think our taste reflects our love of our own names. But anyway, [name]Samuel[/name] was one of his choices. And I have to admit that I really like the vibe from [name]Samuel[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name]. However, I was bullied by a [name]Sam[/name] growing up and while it shouldn’t affect me, it does. I don’t want that association with a future son.

So I’m wondering if people might have some suggestions as to something similar in feel. I’m a little stuck because I generally don’t like such common classic names.

Thanks for your thoughts!

[name]Sam[/name] and [name]Max[/name] have always felt similar to me. [name]Maxwell[/name] is the equivalent of [name]Samuel[/name]. [name]Simon[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name] also fit for me.

[name]Samuel[/name] has the same feel to me as [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name], all of which I really like. [name]Daniel[/name], too, has a very similar feel, as does [name]Oliver[/name]. [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]George[/name] too, but they’re a bit different in length,

I brought up the name [name]Samuel[/name] to my husband a few months ago. He wasn’t a fan (though it was too traditional), but suggested Samwell (he’s a Game of Thrones fan!) nn [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Wells[/name].

It’s not classic like [name]Samuel[/name], but would still give you the nickname option of [name]Sam[/name] if that’s what appeals to your husband.

[name]Lemuel[/name]? Very similar to [name]Samuel[/name] in sound and, I think, worthy of attention.

Hmmm, maybe a [name]Max[/name] name would work. Not totally sold on [name]Maxwell[/name] but I can see the similarity in tone and I surprisingly don’t have any [name]Max[/name] associations.

I don’t think variations on [name]Samuel[/name] will work for me as I really do like [name]Samuel[/name] (more than similar sounding names) and the nn [name]Sam[/name] regardless of the full name will remind me of the kid I grew up around.

A few of the others are nice but pretty common for me, probably because they are so classic.

[name]Adam[/name] comes to mind first…
