Names NOT in Nameberry Database ” The Lost Names

I realize this day in age, almost anything could be considered a name. And just because some crazy parent bestows a name on their child (i.e. Abcde) doesn”t really make it a real name or worthy for naming websites. But on occasion, I hear or think of a name that to my surprise is not in the [name]Berry[/name] database. Now I don”t know how many babies/people need to bear a name in order for it to be considered official enough for this site, but I am interested if any of you have heard of a legit name (on a real person) that seems to be missing from this site.

A few off the top of my head are”

Kona ” An unusual name that sometimes crops up in [name]Hawaii[/name], but I don”t see why it couldn”t be in the same genre as a lot of place names and used in the Main [name]Land[/name] and beyond.

Kipton ” Sort of trendy, but a past contestant on the [name]Bachelor[/name] has this name and I can see this one taking off as it”s not far from names like [name]Ashton[/name], plus [name]Kip[/name] is a cool nn [name]IMO[/name].

Maple ” With the resurgence of old names like [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] and nature names, I don”t see why this isn”t a wearable option.

Any others to add?

The only one I can think of at the moment is Zylphia. It’s on some Victorian girls’ names lists.

Albus, off the top of my head.

There’s a thread on this in another section, but I don’t think it’s been updated in a while. I’ve found a lot, and off the top of my head:
Paikea
Kateri
Consiglia
Caolan

I have always loved the name Maple, I used to keep it on my boys list and everyone thought I was crazy.

Lost name:

Devendra- Hindu/[name]Indian[/name] orgin, Compounding of the element deva (a god) and [name]Indra[/name], the name of the god of the atmosphere and sky, the lord of the sky-gods.

Thanks, everyone. Keep them coming…and we’ll add when we can. We hope before long to add a function that lets berries add their own names. (Phew)

Sura - I know a baby [name]IRL[/name] with this name (though maybe it is made up - who knows?)

thought of a few more names - Rheanne and Rielle

Ohh, I had one, but I forget it now and I just looked it up the other day and it wasn’t listed… I did notice a mistake though. The boys name [name]Jayce[/name] says it is pronounced [name]Jay[/name]-Cee, but I know many many little boys with the name and it is pronounced [name]Jace[/name], rhyming with case.

Thanks, grace.kasten, for the suggestion–I did change the definition and pronunciation in the data base.

It bugs me that [name]Liam[/name] isn’t down as a nn for [name]William[/name].

It bothers me that [name]Maxen[/name] is listed as a name and in its description is states that Macsen is another spelling but isn’t listed as it’s own name. From what I have been told Macsen is the original spelling.

My boyfriend’s name, Sanyam (pronounced sun-yum), which is an [name]Indian[/name] name meaning patience, isn’t listed.

[name]Pam[/name], I love your idea to have a feature where we can add names! Nameberry is the greatest name site on the web, but of course there are always going to be additional names out there. Let’s get 'em all!

What about MERRICK?

Some girls’ names: [name]Amapola[/name] (Spanish for poppy), Angharad (Welsh – I love this name!), Carme (Catalan for [name]Carmen[/name]), [name]Merce[/name] (Catalan for [name]Grace[/name]), Berentine (Norwegian), Dafna (Hebrew), Frith/Fritha (Anglo-[name]Saxon[/name] version of [name]Freja[/name]), Nicholasa (Puerto Rican version of [name]Nicola[/name]), [name]Zilpah[/name]/[name]Zilpha[/name] (Hebrew).
Some boys’ names: Ketil, [name]Erling[/name], [name]Einar[/name], and Ottar (Norwegian), Adiel (Israeli), Alfric (Anglo-[name]Saxon[/name], elf-rich), [name]Bertil[/name] (Swedish), [name]Bran[/name] (Gaelic/Celtic), Dryw (Welsh), Ferran (Catalan for [name]Fernando[/name]), Hallam (English), Joram (Hebrew), [name]Josep[/name] (Catalan for [name]Joseph[/name]), Llyn (Welsh), Llyr (Welsh), [name]Lytton[/name] (English).

I’m surprised with all the “bird name” trending the name Kestrel hasn’t been mentioned! I’m not sure if it’s ever been registered as a name but I have it on my list for a potential middle boys name as I’m a bit of a bird nut. The American Kestrel is more commonly known as the sparrow hawk and it’s a beautiful and interesting little bird in the falcon family.

I think I mentioned on the other thread that I couldn’t find the girls name “Danneel” on the site. I have only heard of one actress with this name, but it’s one of my favorites.

There’s an old thread on this, but it must have died because I remember throwing out a few suggestions that were never added. Off the top of my head, Emeric.

[name]Briar[/name] as a boy name also.
