I’m TTC now and hopefully will be pregnant soon! I love my daughter’s name, [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Shae[/name]-[name]Lyn[/name], because she’s named for family. Great grandmother is [name]Lynn[/name], great grandfather is [name]Mack[/name] and my middle name is [name]Shae[/name]. I hope she will always love her name because it reminds her of those she loves. Anyhow, I want a name with meaning regarding family. My hubby is a fiery redhead and I want a name to denote that. (I’m blonde and thinking our baby will be red headed or at least strawberry blonde). I don’t want a name like “[name]Aidan[/name]” that means born of fire…I want a word that makes you think of fire when you say it. We have thrown around [name]Blaze[/name] for a boy and [name]Ember[/name] (like the embers of a fire) for a girl. I [name]LOVE[/name] those, but want more options. [name]Even[/name] something like [name]Cole[/name] (coal in a fire). I know you can all be so creative, so please help! Also, my mother’s name is [name]Lori[/name] and I would like to incorporate that for a girl’s middle name. All I can think of is [name]Lorelei[/name]. I’m so excited to see what’s posted!

The first thing that comes to mind for a girl is [name]Ginger[/name] (nn [name]Gigi[/name]). I think [name]Ember[/name] is nice too. I know a little girl named [name]Cayenne[/name], aptly named because her mother craved the spice during her pregnancy.
I immediately thought of [name]Phoenix[/name], which really could work for either a boy or a girl. Here are some other fire-related names you might like:
Boys:
[name]Rhys[/name] “fiery, zealous”
[name]Rowan[/name] “little redhead”
[name]Sirius[/name] “burning”
Girls:
[name]Zora[/name] “dawn’s light”
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name] “red dragon”
[name]Helena[/name] “bright, shining one”
[name]Cressida[/name] “gold”
[name]Aurora[/name] “dawn”
[name]Lucinda[/name]/[name]Lucy[/name] “light”
[name]Phaedra[/name] “bright”
First name I thought of was Pyrene/Pyrena - greek origin - fiery!
You could also go with [name]Jubilee[/name] which makes me think of fireworks. hehe
=)
I really like [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], and [name]Sirius[/name]. My hubby likes [name]Phoenix[/name], but I worry. Does anyone know a kid with that name who likes it and is well adjusted? lol [name]Cayenne[/name] is so cute with lots of meaning! We definitely like [name]Ashe[/name] and [name]Seraphina[/name] was already on our list, also! I don’t really care if its even a name. It can just be a lovely word (I like how people are using [name]Noble[/name] and those types of things). I’ve vetoes things like [name]Zora[/name] and [name]Rosalind[/name] just because you have to either look them up or just KNOW that it means fire related. I want people to see red hair, hear the name and say “Ooooooh, his/her name means red!”. I’ve considered [name]Cole[/name] as well (like coal that feeds a fire). Is there any other word you can think about that means red or fire? It does NOT have to be a name, just a pretty word. Thanks for all the suggestions! They are great!
I really, really, really wanted to name my firery-redhead “[name]Poppy[/name]”, but partner wouldn’t go for it.
Still when I look at her and her red hair, I think she would have been an excellent [name]Poppy[/name]
I also like [name]Ruby[/name] for a red-headed girl.
I can’t think of any good boy names/words other than the ones already mentioned. If you REALLY wanted to be cheeky, you could use “[name]Redmond[/name]” and call him [name]Red[/name] for short…
There have been lots of great suggestions already. I’ll add these:
[name]Brick[/name] (m)
Torch (m)
[name]Carmine[/name] (f)
[name]Rose[/name] (f)
[name]Russet[/name]
[name]Vermilion[/name]
Cardinal
[name]Coral[/name]
[name]Rojo[/name]
I think, with the girl’s name, you’ll have to be careful not to veer into “stripper name” territory. For that reason, I would avoid the names [name]Blaze[/name], [name]Cinnamon[/name] and [name]Cayenne[/name], unless it’s just not a concern for you.
When I think of a little redheaded boy, the name “[name]Rudy[/name]” comes to mind for me as well!
Also, I knew a little girl named [name]Ireland[/name], and she had fiery red curly hair…the name really worked for her!
Best,
L.
Oh, I do like [name]Ember[/name]! What about [name]Rufus[/name] for a boy? Lots of people say it makes them think of a dog but it always makes me think red.
Some other words that I associate with fire or red (you may or may not like them but just throwing them out there)
[name]Flame[/name]
[name]Redford[/name]
[name]Auburn[/name]
[name]Bernard[/name] - nn [name]Bernie[/name] (burny)
[name]Char[/name] (liked charred or charcoal) - maybe a nn for [name]Charlie[/name]/[name]Charles[/name]?
Cinder - maybe nn for [name]Cinderella[/name], if you’re bold enough!
Cochineal - actually a bug that used to be used to make red dye
[name]Ranger[/name] - in Australia pn as Rang-er and is a nn for red heads
[name]Copper[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
Carnelian
Chalcedony
[name]Cerise[/name]
[name]Vermillion[/name]
Candle
I hope these help
[name]Blaise[/name] for a boy or girl is an excellent choice for a redhead.
I think [name]Deidre[/name] is the perfect name for a redhead, one never hears it these days I am sure it must be saying pick me.
[name]Aurora[/name] is another choice, a very obvious one and the nn of [name]Rory[/name] is all redhead. So you have [name]Aurora[/name] for a girl and [name]Rory[/name] for a boy and nn of [name]Rory[/name] for a girl.
[name]Andrea[/name] is also a good one.
All the Michaels if redheads were called [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Mick[/name] so [name]Michael[/name] would fit perfectly.
[name]Toby[/name]
[name]Russell[/name] nn [name]Rusty[/name]
Then we have [name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Phillipa[/name] nn [name]Pippi[/name], not forgetting [name]Sally[/name] either.

OMG, I never even thought of [name]Ireland[/name].
It’s beautiful and I can see the little girl in my mind. I don’t think I can handle [name]Rufus[/name]; I think of a dog or an old crotchety man. I like [name]Auburn[/name], but I live in huge football area, so I’m sure we’d always hear crap about it. I don’t like [name]Aurora[/name], it would be so mispronounced here. My aunt’s name is [name]Andrea[/name] so thats out, too. I think [name]Kindle[/name] is beautiful! I see it on a boy or girl. I think [name]Brick[/name] is too harsh, also. But I like the multilingual spin on it! I’m glad I posted because this was the stuff I needed. Words (Not just names) that make you think of red or fire.
I want it to click what it means when you see my child. If Merlot wasn’t such a well known wine, I’d consider it because I think it’s a pretty word. I like [name]Draco[/name] also. We live in such a small community, the names we already love ([name]Blaze[/name]) is considered absolutely crazy, so I’m sure [name]Draco[/name] would be wild here. I wish I had the nerve of some of the bloggers here! Some names are totally out there! Is it just me or do you guys see the person when you hear the name? I can already picture these little ones running around. I"m sure further along I’ll want “normal” name help, too. [name]Do[/name] you think we need backup names that don’t mean red? I mean, is it ok to have a [name]Blaze[/name] and [name]Ember[/name] even if they have black hair? lol
