I’ve been having a heck of a time trying to find names related to seahorses . They have a special meaning to me so I’d like to find a name that connects with them!
If you don’t have any names that have something to do with seahorses that’s completely fine! As long as it has something to do with the sea. I will warn you I don’t like [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and most it’s diminutives.
Thank you!
For seahorse, maybe [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], etc. for the “horse” meaning? [name_f]Hippolyta[/name_f] is another option, it starts with the same sound as the scientific name for seahorse (hippocampus), also from the “horse” meaning!
You could also use the name of specific seahorse species, eg. [name_m]Barbour[/name_m], Satomi, Krysna, [name_f]Denise[/name_f], or variations of them!
Other sea-related names that come to mind:
[name_u]Cove[/name_u]
[name_f]Thalassa[/name_f]
[name_f]Amphitrite[/name_f]
[name_f]Oceane[/name_f] / [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] / [name_f]Oceana[/name_f]
[name_u]Wave[/name_u]
[name_f]Nereida[/name_f]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] / [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Dune[/name_u]
Using a seahorse species is genius! I love Satomi and [name_m]Barbour[/name_m]!
[name_u]Cove[/name_u], [name_f]Nereida[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] are lovely!
Thank you!
I’ve tried to think of things associated with seahorses:
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_m]Coleman[/name_m] (coleman’s pygmy seahorse)
[name_u]Reef[/name_u]
[name_m]Fin[/name_m]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]
[name_f]Darya[/name_f] Rosalind/Rosamund
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] [name_f]Thalassa[/name_f]
[name_m]Tide[/name_m]
You’ve got some good names! Especially [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_m]Coleman[/name_m], [name_u]Reef[/name_u] and [name_m]Tide[/name_m]! Thank you!
I made a list a few days back, and the replies also suggest some brilliant names! You might want to check that out
I saw Keleokokio is a Hawaiian name meaning seahorse. Maybe a shortening of this could work.
Otherwise, agree with above, maybe pairing a horse related name (Philip/Philippa, [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_u]Destry[/name_u], Baylor) with a sea-related one, might work:
Tahnee/Tarni
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Coral[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
Dylan/ [name_u]Dillon[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Havelock[/name_m]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Coast[/name_u]
Close to [name_f]Marina[/name_f], but I think you should (re)consider [name_u]Mariner[/name_u] for a boy or girl! (And [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] is sweet too!)
In Greek mythology, [name_m]Poseidon[/name_m] is the sea god, and also the inventor of horses. Idk about sea horses specifically but it was my first thought. Maybe you could look for other mythological figures with a sea and or horse theme?
