[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is my favorite obscure name and I love it as a middle name for [name_u]James[/name_u]. I love it so much I can’t think of any names that would compare to it. I like using classic names for the first name and using more unusual, but legitimate names for a middle name. I would love to hear some suggestions on names that you think have a similar feel to [name_m]Alaric[/name_m].
Some names I think have the same feel as [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], but I don’t love enough to use are:
[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]
[name_m]Tarquin[/name_m]
[name_m]Henrik[/name_m]
I think of this category as “historic novel names” - not a diss, I love them myself.
Some of these are VERY obscure and some are just sort of antique-but-around. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like in the swords and sorcery novels I grew up with, where there’s a sprinkling of “standard British names” amongst antiquities.
I agree. [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] and names similar to it definitely have the historic feel to them. I really like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], but unfortunately hate the nickname [name_m]Artie[/name_m]. I prefer [name_u]Ari[/name_u] for a chosen nickname. I wish I could like [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] because I’m starting to like the nickname “[name_u]Izzy[/name_u]” for a boy, but no longer like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and felt like it was a stretch. [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] would be a great way to get it, but I also like [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] for a future daughter.
I don’t like [name_m]Artie[/name_m] either, but like [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. I’ve known Arthurs (and Arturos) that got [name_u]Ari[/name_u] just fine, and Arthurs that got [name_m]Archie[/name_m].
I don’t like [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] (does anyone like [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]?) but I don’t mind [name_m]Archie[/name_m].
[name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] is the first one that came to mind for me. Others
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
Felix
to get [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] how about [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]! My chosen nickname for it would be [name_u]Sasha[/name_u].
I really liked [name_m]Soren[/name_m] until I found out I was pronouncing it wrong.
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] is another name that I fell out of love with. I forgot about [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. It’s on my long list of middle names. [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] reminded me that I really like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], but I will potentially have a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and using [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] in the middle name spot is a big no-no to me.
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] is on my list. I have thought of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], but my problem is I like a lot of -iah names and [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] is at the bottom of my favorites.
