Are there any girl names except [name_f]Sanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Sanna[/name_f]/[name_f]Zanna[/name_f]/Zinna/[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] that are similar to [name_m]Cinna[/name_m]* (in either looks, sound or style)?
We really like [name_m]Cinna[/name_m] (I watched the hunger games a while ago with my family and this name really stuck to me) and after some research, we found out that it was male only instead of unisex like we thought (I never thought it had such a history btw very interesting), so we are looking for a replacement name. The only ones we like (but not love) so far are [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sienna[/name_f].
Anyone got some suggestions?
for those who don’t know, it’s a soft C like in [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Celine[/name_f]
Because historical name associations are a bit ancient (and yes, quite interesting)…would you be uncomfortable simply using [name_m]Cinna[/name_m]? I don’t think you should eliminate it for a substitute. Not if you love it.
I think that in present day, it has a distinctly more feminine sound. I think the average person would interpret it as a feminine name. The historical values give your lil [name_m]Cinna[/name_m] grand things to aspire to.
I also like it better that any of the variants you listed.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about pairing it with a super feminine mn.
And of course you could go [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f]…nn [name_m]Cinna[/name_m]. But, that’s kind of out there for most people and even if you were into it, it’s too different in style from [name_f]Florence[/name_f].
It reminds me of
[name_f]Brynna[/name_f]
[name_f]Minna[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? fabulous with [name_f]Florence[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Sosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cinda[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]? also fab with [name_f]Florence[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Corinna[/name_f]
As a HUGE fan of THG I think if you like the name you should go for it. I personally loved [name_m]Cinna[/name_m]'s character. He was brave, and strong and kind. As someone else stated his name is pretty feminine sounding into today’s culture. Chances are also that they will not know the ancient history behind it, they will most likely think of THG character. I also agree that it should be paired with a frill feminine mn. I personally really like it with M mns. Here’s some ideas I have for you!
I really love [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] as an alternative! Other than that, I’m not sure. [name_m]Cinna[/name_m] always reminded me of cinnamon. Although I’m not sure I would actually want to name a child [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f], either. I think [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] sounds a lot similar… [name_f]Senna[/name_f], maybe? Was that already mentioned? Maybe [name_f]Zara[/name_f], as a huge leap?
I actually know a woman named [name_m]Cinna[/name_m]. Soft spoken, pretty whispy blonde hair and glasses. We did fencing and swordplay together. (SCA type stuff) I would never have guessed it wasn’t a girls name.
[name_f]Sena[/name_f], which is pronounced See-nuh. I like it because it reminds me of “Song for [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]” by [name_m]Brian[/name_m] [name_m]Crain[/name_m] without being [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] itself. It’s similar to [name_m]Cinna[/name_m], too, which is why I’m suggesting it here, obviously…
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is lovely. [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] is pretty. And [name_f]Cinnamon[/name_f] is wonderful. But like other NBs have mentioned, Sinna sounds like sinner…not a nice connotation. Maybe you can try-out another NN like [name_f]Cindy[/name_f]?
