Names that are "pocket-y" where you are

Are you in a name pocket for a certain name?

For example - for the past few weeks, I have been volunteering at my kids’ school. It feels like there is at least one [name_f]Skyla[/name_f] in every grade, if not more!

There are definitely a ton of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and Aurelia’s in my area. Avery/Averie’s too. I used to teach [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] School and there were always so many kids who were named those or had siblings who were. It’s so disproportionate to how the names actually rank too, there are just so many

Before I moved (US Southeast), it seems like every other baby girl I met was named [name_f]Collins[/name_f]!

Tailored surname-y names in general were pretty popular with boys and girls named [name_f]Sutton[/name_f], [name_m]Sagan[/name_m], and [name_m]Baker[/name_m]. The -s ending also stood out as being big with some like [name_m]Sims[/name_m], [name_m]Banks[/name_m], and [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] for boys.

Now I live in the Northeast and encounter fewer babies in general but those I do see have more traditional or popular names like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].

Living in Catholic communities all my life, I know loads of Theresa’s! I have two friends named [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], a friend’s mom named [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], two nuns named Sr. [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], and my actual sister [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] - all in my phone contacts! :face_exhaling: (no, no mix-up texts yet!)

Mostly your typical top 10 names - [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] is quite popular as well

A bunch of Garretts for some reason? I went to a private elementary school with probably about 80 students max, but there were three or four Garretts there alone, plus at least two I knew in high school (totally different people) and a couple adults. The weird thing is I don’t think it was even in the top 100 in my state (or nationally) around the time I was born.

Also a surprising number of Elsas, considering they were all born before Frozen came out and there isn’t a big population of European immigrants around here or anything.

[name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_m]Roman[/name_m]. I know a handful of each, ranging from babies to adults.

As far as names that seem to be trending around me currently, I’ve heard a fair bit of [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Everly[/name_f] and [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] in the last couple years.

I grew up with a lot of Ashas, Annikas, and Sierras!

For babies, I hear a lot of Mateo, River, and Sage, but I think of these as popular across the board.

And we just discovered today that we have three Ursulas living in our neighborhood!

I work at a secondary/high school and these names are unexpectedly popular:

Honey
Kaiya (this spelling, specifically)
Abisha
Carys
Nur

Some more popular ones that everyone seems to be called:

Aisha / Ayesha
Mia (once had a class where a quarter of the kids were called Mia :person_shrugging: )
Millie
Hannah

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] seem to be really popular for girls. [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_m]Johnathan[/name_m], & [name_m]Henry[/name_m] for boys

[name_f]An[/name_f] ungodly amount of girls named [name_f]Ioanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], both of which are common names, but I still think I know way too many of them in my area! And for the boys, [name_m]Claudio[/name_m]!

I know four boys (under 14) named [name_m]Moses[/name_m]. Lots of boys named [name_m]Titus[/name_m]. Also know two or three of [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], [name_m]Simeon[/name_m], [name_f]Jubilee[/name_f], and [name_f]Aletheia[/name_f]. Clearly I’m in a Biblical names pocket!

i know four elektras and have heard of more among people i know ?? also i know alexander is popular everywhere but it really is bizarre among me - i can’t remember exactly, but i swear like one in ten boys in my school is alexander or a close variant. alexandre is especially pocket-y around me - it’s really not common (625th the year i was born) but there’s at least one and often two or three in each year.

@danilib I know so many boys named [name_m]Titus[/name_m] too. I’ve also noticed it’s always the first born boy……!

@shorie That’s funny - I’ve never thought of that, but at least three of the ones I know are firstborn sons too!
